ADHD behandlas ofta med medicin, och sedan 2006 har antalet personer som hämtat ut medicin mot ADHD ökat, och fortsätter öka kontinuerligt (Socialstyrelsen, 2021). Studien undersöker varför fler personer blir föremål för ADHD-utredningar. Vi har samlat berättelser från anonyma internetforum skrivna av personer som antingen har diagnos, nekats diagnos eller misstänker att de har ADHD. Som datainsamlings- och analysmetod har vi använt grounded theory, och de teorier vi utgått från är anknytningsteori, medikalisering och välfärdsreformen new public management. Genom berättelserna har vi kommit fram till att en ADHD-diagnos innebär en ökad känsla av samhörighet och självacceptans bland författarna, som ofta återger en känsla av utanförskap och svårigheter i relationer.
