The Semantics of the Recorded Drum Kit and its Processing

Evans, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
This study investigated the terms used by drummers and audio engineers to describe the recorded drum kit and the processing applied to it. The main method consisted of semi-structured interviews with six professionals in the fields of drumming and audio engineering. The participants were asked to describe five musical samples of different drum kit mixes containing kick, snare and hi-hat sounds. Their descriptions along with explanations of their communication tactics were compared, resulting in explanations of fourteen semantic descriptors. The comparison of their use of the terms in the context of the samples revealed some differences depending on their professional backgrounds. The results suggested that, while audio engineers have a larger semantic lexicon in regards to the recorded drum kit, the differences in the definitions of terms had a larger degree of variation between individuals than between the respective professions.

Att göra kaos i ett cisnormativt kosmos : en laborerande studie av den transteoretiska och-aktivistiska samvaron med Satan

Jangmyr, Michelle January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to present an opening to argue for a transtheoretical and - activist fellowship with Satan and the values connected to hir. A transactivist fellows-hip with Satan builds on two primary points of contact. It is on one hand the opportu-nity to take advantage of the non-conformist, non-normative and polemical signifi-cance Satan has been attributed, especially in the history of literature, but also in the history of religion. And on the other hand this study also dwells upon how Satan as a figure has served as an expression of evilness, hatred, darkness and suffering amongst people. The questions i ask, is if there is a course that allows me to theorize for a stra-tegic collaboration between the transactivist struggle and the ideas that is connected to the satanfigure in John Miltons Paradise Lost. I also ask if there is a transtheoretical-and activist approach where Satan can function as an ally within the transactivist re-sistance. The purpose of this paper also carries on a confrontation with the notion of ”tone-policing", and love and tenderness as the only sanctioned (and praised) incenti-ves for political struggle. In this thesis I make a link between the logic that connects to Satan as an ideological basis and a non-conformist (militant), seperatist, anti-capi-talist and queer attitude in transactivist struggle. With the help of Susan Stryker's the-ory of the monsteridentity I will experiment with extracts from John Milton's Paradise Lost, where the Satan figure and the transactivist position builds on a fellowship as my analysis proceeds. To do this i use a queer-deleuzian tool as a method that focuses on textual framings within the idea of spatial relations, meaning how the actual text can and should correspond with discourses outside its territorial space. This allow me to di-sengage Satan from its original amplitude, and instead of interpreting how Satan handles hirself in Paradise Lost, i will liberate Satan from this narrative and create a relation between hir and my thesis. In this way I create an occasion, through a theore-tical approach to trans-subjectivity as comparable to the perception of the monster as a non-normative figure, to bring the transgendered monster together with the satanic monster. The ”what” that will subsequently crystallize during the analysis have the intention to tell the story about the ways in which the non-confirmative transactivist have in common with Satan. After doing this i will conclude my thesis with a discus-sion that reflects on how this fellowship has evolved in relation to the proposed politi-cal and emotional connections between the non-confomative transactivist and Satan.

Mobiliųjų paslaugų portalų technologijų tyrimas / Research of mobile portals technologies

Najulis, Mindaugas 03 June 2005 (has links)
Information technologies and mobile telecommunications rapidly enter our personal and social life. Mobile phone is no longer luxury – it has become a necessity. Growing volumes of the mobile services has caused a need to expand the mobile service employment opportunities in the Internet portals. Today’s portals, created using the means, offered by software manufacturers, employ exclusively the mobile Internet service, thanks to which the users can see and manage the necessary information and process of the portal at any time and from anywhere. The problem is related with the fact that mobile Internet services are still expensive in Lithuania. Therefore one should look for cheaper ways to reach and manage portal information. In order to solve this problem one can consider the SMS and MMS message sending, suggested by mobile technologies. Basic aim of the work is to create an entertainment portal, rendering the user both various Internet entertainments (e.g. Internet acquaintances, games), and mobile entertainment (e.g. sending messages, logos, melodies, animations and games for mobile phone) as well as a wide range of mobile services to be used to obtain and to manage the portal information. In the work I describe: portal evolution, classification and creation measures („BroadVision Portal“, „IBM WebSphere Portal for Multiplatforms v5.x“, „Sun One Portal Server v6.0“, „Red Hat Enterprise Portal Server“, „Microsoft SharePoint® Portal Server 2003“, „ORACLE 9ias Portal“, „PHP:... Classification and repeatability studies of transient electromagnetic measurements with respect to the development of CO2-monitoring techniques

Bär, Matthias 09 February 2021 (has links)
The mitigation of greenhouse gases, like CO2 is a challenging aspect for our society. A strategy to hamper the constant emission of CO2 is utilizing carbon capture and storage technologies. CO2 is sequestrated in subsurface reservoirs. However, these reservoirs harbor the risk of leakage and appropriate geophysical monitoring methods are needed. A crucial aspect of monitoring is the assignment of measured data to certain events occurring. Especially if changes in the measured data are small, suitable statistical methods are needed. In this thesis, a new statistical workflow based on cluster analysis is proposed to detect similar transient electromagnetic signals. The similarity criteria dynamic time warping, the autoregressive distance, and the normalized root-mean-square distance are investigated and evaluated with respect to the classic Euclidean norm. The optimal number of clusters is determined using the gap statistic and visualized with multidimensional scaling. To validate the clustering results, silhouette values are used. The statistical workflow is applied to a synthetic data set, a long-term monitoring data set and a repeat measurement at a pilot CO2-sequestration site in Brooks, Alberta.

Keiko Natori 22 March 2014 (has links)
博士(工学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University
