Formes spatiales héritées, discontinuités et espaces boisés : France du Nord et Benelux, escapades hercyniennes et slaves / Inherited spatial forms, discontinuities and wooded areas : northern France and Benelux, hercynian and eastern european adventures

Dumouch, Rodolphe 01 April 2011 (has links)
Cet espace, situé au seuil du monde Hercynien vaudra quelques escapades vers l’est où il se prolonge, engageant à un voyage vers le monde slave / André MEYNIER, one of the heirs of French rural geography studied the forms in partitioned bocage landscapes and with the help of remote sensing distinguished what he called enclosed landscapes ellipses. He dedicated several articles to them among which “les ensembles cadastraux circulaires en Bretagne” in les Annales de Bretagne (Published in 1945 in Rennes) and “la genèse du parcellaire Breton” (Published in 1966 in Norois). After the epistemological revolution of French geography in the 1960’s and 1970’s, this subject gradually became obsolete as well as classical rural geography as a whole. In this thesis, the subject of my study – broadened to the notion of Inherited Spatial Forms, and consequently connected to long historical time as Fernand Braudel defines it – is reexamined to evaluate its relevance when confronted to the paradigms of modern geography. Along with a geography intending to be dynamic, how could we bring long historical time into the equation when such a time is - on a recent scale at least - sometimes perceived as still and permanent ? How would new geographical streams have been able to express interest in this subject when it is often overlooked as a remnant of the past? The present reflection is meant to encompass all geographical streams without leaving any aside. The objective is also to develop a disciplinary dialectic that would go further than visible paradoxes. In order to delve into these problems, Inherited spatial forms were chosen not only in Brittany but in Northern France and in the Benelux as well, where wooded areas on the outskirts of villages, especially in the Ardennes, have a major role on defining the limits of said villages: they are also bordering areas allowing the link with discontinuities to be made. This region on the threshold of the Hercynian world will take us to an adventurous trip through Eastern Europe

The temporal construction of the fable is composed using testimonial data of his contemporaries based on actual historical and cultural structures, organized in narrative sequence by chronotopic nuclei consonant with Mikhail Bakhtin s chronotopic theory. These chronotopes reveal the thematic plot generating centers, and the relations of place and time by means of logical variations put at the disposal of the unification of meaningful answers between the author and his character. In the building process of the fabular system, in both novels, epiphany participates in the dramatic action work together with the temporal and spacial nuclei. The epiphanic revelation offers to the reader the apprehension of the illusion of social and humanistic truth of this reality through the narration of the mythical hero s journey emerging from Ricardo s outside to his inside world, through meaning equivalents which reveal epiphanic moments. Both novels by José Lins do Rego are impregnated with the reading intersection of temporal chronotopic logic together with the epiphanic space relationship, and, to achieve this purpose, the author makes use of changes in the structural functions at the beginning of a new epics being formed in the black hero moleque Ricardo consciousness / Os romances O moleque Ricardo (1935) e Usina (1936), escritos por José Lins do Rego (1901 1957), relatam a história da trajetória de formação da personagem moleque Ricardo, caracterizada no contexto da sociedade nordestina patriarcal e pós-escravagista brasileira da década de 1920.

"Are we talking about now?" : A qualitative study of how middle school teachers relate to historical time.

Olsson, Susanna January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate how middle school teachers relate to historical time. The focus was on the teachers´ statements about how they reason about their own and their students´ understanding of historical time, as well as the teachers reasoning about the use of artifacts in the education. There are five participating teachers in the study with different experiences in teaching of the school subject history. The teachers have been interviewed and then I have analyzed their statements based on Joel Rudnert's four components: sequence, narrator, actor and canon. In the study, it has been established from the teachers' narrative pattern of how they reason about their teaching that the component “sequence” is very prominent. Definitions of sequence can appear in different ways, such as a large narrative or year mark on a timeline. In addition to the teachers 'interviews, this work is based on past research on children and adolescents' understanding of historical time. Joel Rudnert and Nanny Hartsmar are two prominent researchers with the aim of understanding how children and young people see history. One of the conclusions was based on the fact that time perception and historical consciousness are interconnected, and that understanding of the past, now and future is a developmental process. Scientist are also debating about if the children needs to have the understanding about their own personal time before they can handle historical time. In this study, historical time will not be defined based on the period when the written sources emerged. Instead the study will focus on the aspects of time that are a result of history. My aim with this work is to increase knowledge about how middle school students perceive historical time and how we as teachers can work with this in our teaching of history.

Demokrati bortom politiken : En begreppshistorisk analys av demokratibegreppet inom Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti 1919–1939 / Democracy Beyond Politics : An Analysis of the Concept of Democracy within the Swedish Social Democratic Party 1919–1939

Friberg, Anna January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the concept of democracy as it was used in the official rhetoric of the Swedish SocialDemocratic Party (SAP ) between 1919 and 1939. Theoretically, the dissertation relies on German Begriffsgeschichte, as put forward by Reinhart Koselleck, and Michael Freeden’s theory of ideologies. Together, by supplementing each other, these theories offer a perspective in which concepts are thought of as structures that are under contestation and change due to socio-political circumstances. However, the formulation of this change takes place in relation to the linguistic praxis of each time-period, and renegotiates the relative constraints of established relations between concepts in language. The analysis shows that the profound changes in society provided impetus for a continuous renegotiation of meanings, allowing concepts to retain their explanatory power under changing circumstances, at the same time the SAP needed new ways to express what kind of society the party strived to realize. The SAP had been one of the leading forces in the struggle for universal suffrage, and when the bill, giving universal suffrage to men andwomen, was passed in the Parliament 1919 this meant a temporary cessation to a long and intensive political debate. However, the SAP did not consider the introduction of suffrage reform as the end of full societal democratization. Rather than seeing the reform as a terminal point, the SAP saw it as the starting point for the struggle for full democracy. The SAP did not limit itself to only one concept of democracy but instead used a number of composite concepts, such as political democracy and economic democracy. The use of composite concepts can be understood as a changing temporalization of democracy. Since parliamentarism and suffrage were seen as central components in democracy, the realization of these institutions meant that the concept of democracy lost its future dimension. Thus, the usage of composite concepts should be seen as a re-temporalization of democracy. The composite concepts pointed forward in time, toward political goals that the SAP envisaged realizing in the future. Concepts should not be thought of as having cores but rather, as suggested by Freeden, ineliminable features. An ineliminable feature is not of logical nature but has a strong cultural adjacency. By analyzing the ineliminable components of the concepts of democracy that the SAP used, it is possible to discuss whether the composite concepts should be understood as subsets of a whole or as separate concepts. The analysis shows that the composite concepts that the SAP used during the first half of the 1920s shared a number of ineliminable features, but that the commonality of these features started to disintegrate during the latter half of the decade, leading to a rather diversive concept of democracy. During the 1930s the disintegration ceased as the party was faced with new circumstances, for example the growing threat of international war and national clashes between different social groups. There has always been a close relation between language and society. However, the relationship does not follow a simple and clear-cut logic but a complex mixture of various factors at different levels, both within language itself and of society. When society develops, language also has to change if the ongoing process is to be understood. As this study shows, new circumstances require new argumentsand thus revised concepts.
