When red flags starts showing : A qualitative study on how professionals in socially connected jobs define and assess honor-related violence and oppression

Warming, Isabelle, Rashid, Bryar January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how professionals in social works define, assess and handle a matter regarding honor-related violence and oppression. This is to increase knowledge about the development area of honor-related violence and oppression in practice of social work. The study is a qualitative interview study, where the empirical data is based on six interviews with seven professional respondents within socially connected works that handle and assess matters related to honor-related violence and oppression. The theoretical concept applied to the study is Karpman's dramatriangle (2014) this in order to explain, analyze and interpret our found data material. In the study results we found that the earlier research and respondents 'perception of the definition of honor-related violence and oppression matched and defines it as a collectivist patriarchal structure whose main weight lies in the collective's perception. We will also highlight the current conflict that exists in the research area which is based on three different explanatory models of why-related violence and oppression, and in our respondents response we could find a nuanced answer in the cultural explanation model. With this as a starting point, connections to the professionally made assessments of honor-related violence and oppression then make connections as something primarily done because of professional experience, life experience and also from other professions 'knowledge of the subject. Developed methods are used in some cases in the form of “Socialstyrelsen” model “PATRIARK” and own models that the professionals have created themselves. However, this is optional and because of that, we have not found any exhaustive method for how the assessment and management of honor-related violence and oppression takes place. The result points to an extensive need for development of nationwide guidelines and approaches in the work on honor-related violence where all municipalities in the country

The process of role exit from a honour-related violence and oppression : A qualitative study about honour-related violence and oppression from the woman's perspective.

Carlström Mårtensson, Oliwia, Jönsson, Rebecka January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine the leaving process of girls, who have been exposed to honor-related violence and oppression, thereby creating knowledge to provide suitable and useful support for these women. The theories we have used in this study is shame, guilt and the process of role exit. In our qualitative study, content analysis is used as an analysis method. The study was conducted through analyses of five autobiographical stories written by women who have been exposed to honor-related violence and oppression in Sweden. The results of the study shows that Holmberg and Enanders (2011) theory of the leaving process isn’t designed and adapted to be applicable in an honorary context, which we with our study have contributed to make viable. Feelings of guilt and shame appear frequently in the women's stories. A conclusion we have drawn about honor related violence and oppression is that it is a complex phenomenon that is difficult to define, this result is in line with previous research.

Hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck : Skolkuratorers upplevelse av arbetet med hederskulturen / Honour related violence and oppression : School counselor’s experience of working with the culture of honour

Eldh Eliasson, Ann-Sofie, Wojén Qvick, Freja January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the study was to examine how schools and school counselors pay attention to, prevent and counteract honour related violence and oppression. Six school counselors were interviewed in a qualitative study. Results showed varying experiences regarding the school’s work with and knowledge of the problem. A majority described a lack of an action plan and specific interventions against honour related violence and oppression while a few described a focused work against the problem. Human rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child were fundamental components of the preventive and counteracting work and that knowledge and the relationship with the student are important to be able to pay attention to and identify the problem. Collaboration, organizational factors and social constructions affected the work and discretion. The results demonstrate a need for constant competence development and that preventive and counteracting work must always be developed and updated.

To be both loved and exposed : A qualitative study of the tension between social workers' guidelines and practice with children and young people who are exposed to honour-related violence and oppression

Janbert Winbladh, Ebba, Ovesson, Jannike January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the guidelines, methods and strategies of social workers supporting children and young people who live with honour-related problems – in order to deepen the knowledge of tensions between the guidelines of social work and its practices. The result of the study has emerged from qualitative interviews with six social workers working with children and young people and three local authority documents containing guidelines and routines. The social workers were asked questions about their experiences of guidelines and routines and their current work situation. To analyse and understand the results a thematic method was used along with theories on discretion. The result shows that social workers use different assessment manuals in order to assess that a child/young person is exposed to honour-related problems, but their experience is that the manuals are not complete and adapted to children and young people who live with honour-related problems. Therefore, many social workers have a discretion, where they can take available methods and adapt them to the honour-related cases. The social workers have several different voluntary and family-oriented interventions to offer, but in honour-related cases the interventions are not optimal. The social workers experience difficulties with working with the families of children and young people with honour-related problems because they are not receptive to change, which was the first tension that could be identified. The overall experience of the interviewed social workers regarding honour-related cases shows that their work is complex in relation to laws, guidelines and methods. Thereby another tension was discovered in the result and analysis between forced interventions relating to the laws and guidelines and principles of the child's best interests. The social worker experiences are that it is difficult to motivate forced interventions as it does not always improve the situation of the child.

Svenska hedersutsatta kvinnors gestaltningar av familjekollektivet och offentliga kontexter : En kvalitativ studie om hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck baserad på självbiografier / Swedish honour exposed women's configuration of the family collective and public contexts : A qualitative study of honour-related violence and oppression based on autobiographies

Andrén, Hanna, Lindqvist, Norma January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this qualitative study is to analyse, based on Erving Goffman's theory the dramaturgical perspective and with a narrative analysis of autobiographies, the configuration of roles by honour exposed women. In order to illuminate and increase the understanding of honour-related violence and oppression from the perspective of honour exposed women. There is a requirement of increased knowledge of honour-related violence and oppression, especially among social workers who need to know how to encounter honour exposed women. In the field of research increased knowledge is needed on an individual level, mainly to make the honour exposed women's perspective visible in social work. The results and analysis of the study shows that the honour exposed women perform with several roles in their family collective and in different public contexts. Moreover, numerous aspects in the roles of the honour exposed women emerge. In addition, the women struggle to seek help from the authorities, perform in roles backstage and the boundaries between front and backstage are ambiguous. Furthermore, the study also clarifies that the phenomenon of honour-related violence and oppression is complex with variative expressions.

Is Knowledge the Main Foundation for Being Confident in Professional Practice? : A Quantitative Survey Study on Social Workers' Experience of Knowledge and Comfortability on Working with Honour-Related Violence and Oppression

Appleton, Molly, Borssén, Anna January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to investigate social workers' knowledge of honour-related violence and oppression, as well as being comfortable working on such cases. Additionally, the aim of the study was to analyze possible connections between perceived knowledge and work experience, as well as between perceived knowledge and being comfortable dealing with such cases.  The inspiration was drawn from a Swedish television program "Uppdrag Granskning" ("Mission: Investigation") episode named "Bortförd" ("Abducted") (SVT 2023), where the social services dealing of honour cases were criticized. The focus of our study was on the lack of knowledge and the connection between knowledge, being comfortable dealing with such cases and work experience. By conducting a survey with 45 responses from social workers from 17 Swedish municipalities and analyzing the responses with the statistical program SPSS, the study intended to shed light on these aspects. The results indicated that social workers' perceived knowledge of honour-related violence and oppression was on average, while their sense of comfortability dealing with such cases was higher. Work experience showed a weak but significant connection to perceived knowledge. In addition, a strong positive correlation was observed between perceived knowledge and the feeling of being comfortable dealing with honour-related cases. In summary, the study confirms the need for increased knowledge about honour-related violence, as many believe they need more knowledge on the subject. Despite the challenges, social workers feel relatively confident when working with honor-related issues.
