How to create an industrial memory : A case study of Sandviken as an industrial community & the global company Sandvik ABJohansson, Jeanette January 2019 (has links)
My essay aims to illustrate how an industrial memory is created based on Sandvik AB's premises. Industrial heritage and industrial memory are interrelated, but have different characteristics and conditions. I examine what conditions are required to create an industrial memory in the form of a museum. I describe the problems that exist in the various industrial concepts and contribute with an analysis of the different concepts. I am using Sandvik AB as a case study and by using the identified criteria for an industry memory my essay show the process in which an industrial memory can be created. I further investigate whether Sandvik AB can create a museum based on there industrial heritage. My research proves this fact and I finish the essay by proposing how a Sandvik museum in Sandviken can be designed. My research shows that Sandvik AB fulfills the criteria for being able to create an industrial memory from there industrial heritage. My research contribute with interpretations of the concepts of industrial heritage, industrial memory, living industrial memory and industrial history landscape. My essay shows that an industrial memory can represent a living company which shows against the usual view of an industrial memory as a representative of a discontinued production. My essay also examines two consulting firms which give proposals in creating a museum, a market that can be find outside Sweden. The research also contribute with supplementary proposals for the consulting firms different steps in the process of creating a museum. From a Swedish perspective, this study therefore contributes with a first proposal for the Swedish market in creating a museum.

Průmyslové dědictví a obnova měst: nové perspektivy pro čtvrť Atlampa v Mexico city / Industrial heritage and urban regeneration: New perspectives for the district of Atlampa in Mexico CityGuzmán Penella, Diego January 2021 (has links)
Industrial heritage and urban regeneration: New perspectives for the district of Atlampa in Mexico City Abstract in English The relationship between cities and industry has been the subject of research ever since the process of industrialization began in the 18th century. The interest around it has only grown once industry started leaving urban centers in the mid 20th century, forcing cities to evolve to fulfill new functions. This posed a challenge to urban planners and heritage professionals, who had to find solutions together to preserve important industrial sites without restraining the city from evolving. The present thesis explores the different approaches commonly used to address this challenge and analyzes their feasibility for the case of Atlampa, a historical industrial district in Mexico City that has stagnated for decades despite showing great urban potential and heritage value. The core of the thesis is a comparative study of former industrial districts with similar circumstances, which were identified through a diagnosis of Atlampa. The comparison analyzes the urban planning and heritage conservation approaches in each case and determines what could be a feasible and desirable strategy for the urban regeneration of Atlampa. Key words industrial heritage - urban regeneration - urban heritage -...

MUZEUM TEXTILNÍHO PRŮMYSLU V BRNĚ / MUSEUM OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN BRNOSvíbová, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis was area between the city parts Malomerice and Obrany. After the construction of mill drive, an artificial island was created there. Industrial site with textile factories was established in 1912, however it does not fulfil its original purpose anymore and it is fairly damaged today. My intention was to clear the island and bring back its original form - park, unique place in nature where people acknowledge proximity of the river and cultural activities as well. I designed textile museum in the former factory building. It is accompanied by pavilion of Contemporary textile and fashion and also engineering exhibition. One of the components is an artificial canal for canoeists.

Эколого-экономические аспекты реновации объектов индустриального наследия : магистерская диссертация / Environmental and Economic Aspects of Renovation of Industrial Heritage ObjectsСамойлов, Е. К., Samoilov, E. K. January 2021 (has links)
The dissertation research examines the transformation of industrial facilities in Russia. Most of the cities of the Sverdlovsk region originate from the construction of industrial production. With the subsequent expansion of the boundaries of the settlements, the enterprises remained in their places - in the central part of the city. Currently, the factories have already lost their industrial relevance, and are not used for their intended purpose, are in a deplorable technical condition, having a negative impact on the environment and the quality of life of cities. The rational transformation of these industrial areas is today one of the primary issues in the development of the urban environment for the whole of Russia. The most promising option for adapting industrial facilities is renovation. The paper analyzes modern problems of renovation of industrial facilities, considers foreign and Russian experience in renovation. It also discusses the environmental and economic features of the renovation of industrial facilities. The authors propose a methodological approach to the renovation of industrial facilities, taking into account their ecological state. The paper provides an assessment of the environmental and economic efficiency of the renovation of the former ironworks in Sysert. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the improvement of the methodological approach to the renovation of industrial heritage sites, taking into account the environmental and economic aspects.

[CA] Aquesta investigació avalua projectes arquitectònics de caràcter industrial a Colòmbia, Espanya i Portugal. Patrimoine industriel et lieux de mémoires à Taiwan : l'exemple des raffineries de sucre et de leurs reconversions / Industrial heritage and memorial sites in Taiwan : the example of sugar refineries and their reconversionsYamada-Desnos, Alice 16 October 2015 (has links)
This research, based on a field study and on archives analysis, aims to understand the history and the transition into touristic spots of industrial complexes dedicated to sugar as well as their integration into the Taiwanese cultural heritage. After presenting the origins of sugar and it’s implantation in Taiwan, we will address the island’s economical history in a chronological manner in order to better understand the context in which these industrial complexes were created and later closed. Then, by recounting the history of modern architecture and urbanism in Japan and Japanese colonies, we will explain the spatial and architectural organization of these sites, built as advanced models of modern industrial communities. An overview of the present remains and of the elements that are now gone will enable us to highlight the Taiwanese heritage’s current state of preservation. Furthermore, to point out that even though some buildings are still in perfect condition, others have undergone destruction or heavy architectural modifications after 1945. Finally, detailing of the current transition into touristic venues of these sites will inform us, on one hand, on the projects dedicated to bringing back to life old industrial complexes by transforming them into « cultural parks » and, on the other hand, on the way the Taiwanese want to showcase a heritage they have rediscovered starting in the early nineties. Furthermore, we will bring to light what kind of discourses have been chosen (and by whom), when the history of these sites and their working class memory are presented, in Taiwan’s underlying context of intense inter-ethnic and political conflicts of the past few decades.

Quelles trajectoires ? / Conservation of the textile heritage in Alsace between materiality, immateriality, virtuality : what issues ? what paths ?Fiesinger-Lelièvre, Virginie 25 November 2013 (has links)
Alsace has been profoundly marked by the textile industry. For two centuries, its textile heritage has experienced numerous fluctuations, rising and falling according to the structural and cyclical growth rate of the economy and to industrial crises. Fluctuations that, though completely random and uncontrollable (strategies, even short-term, cannot be implemented), have occurred in a timely manner, thus giving rise to constantly changing unique cultural, scientific, technical and industrial landscape. It is thus only right to wonder how the memory of the development of this industrial fabric can be preserved in all its complexity? There are three possible means of preservation: material (retro-presence to neo presence concept), immaterial (concept of memo-retroconstruction) and virtual (concept of what is "areal", clearly promoting position take-up on material and immaterial concepts to be protected). Even if all these possibilities exist side by side, one problem remains unanswered, namely what is the outlook for the preservation of the textile heritage in Alsace? The literature on preservation of industrial heritage available since the 1970s tends to overlook the existing relationships of interdependence between these three modes of preservation. The shortage of results does not allow us to appraise the potential offered by proper management of a combination of these three modes of preservation. This research work thus aims to propose some possible schemes to define a new preservation model, based on the example of the textile industrial heritage in Alsace. The first part of this study explains the processes that have allowed the textile industry in Alsace to accede to heritage status some 200 years ago. Choices guided by discretionary powers, opposable preservation logics, discontinuity in course of action over short and long periods alike, reclaiming more often oriented by lections rather than of a scientific nature, opting-out of those with responsibilities, not to mention the lack of coherence between players and institutions: these are all factors that will guide a Region's preservation policy strategy. What state of affairs can be drawn up today by historical sources? What is the outlook for the future? The second part asks the same questions, but this time seeks for the answers based only on media sources. It questions the pertinence of the current textile heritage preservation processes, material, immaterial and virtual alike, but from a viewpoint different from and complementary to the first part, namely the viewpoint of journalists and public and political contributors. Do communication sciences offer heritage reservation new horizons? Yes they do, but that is not all they offer. We shall see that, far from being mere tool, they play a decisive role in the reconstruction of a heritage, grouping themselves to move with society in order to define it by using all the meanings accumulated in the semes relating to the textile industrial heritage. Through this they form a collective reference, formulating hypotheses for future transformation, adaptation and projections. We shall then see whether it is possible for them to play a role in heritage preservation. The third part highlights the convergences and divergences of the three preservation modes. lt suggest concrete solutions for Alsace, followed by transposable concepts to extend these new preservation processes to other regions in France and, why not, to other areas.

Historický pivovar - potenciál regionálního rozvoje / Historical brewery - potential for regional developmentMosler, Štěpán January 2018 (has links)
Nowadays there are hundreds of breweries scattered throughout Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, waiting for their new future. They are either abandoned or in private property. In the worst case they have been deteriorating with no hope of recovery. There are not many left. It is very difficult to find a new function and especially enlightened investor. Important thing is how we will treat with these structures in the future. Will we use this unique potential, or leave this place for a new function? Which way we can choose? What is the potential of these buildings and what they need? This thesis attempts to briefly describe and demonstrate the value of brewery architecture which due to dramatic changes in society became endangered. And to offer possible solutions for the preservation this unique buildings their charm and atmosphere for the next generations.
