Previous issue date: 2014-08-19 / This work aims to investigate the origins and effects of passion through a case study. It is a study of the psychoanalytic clinic that aims to articulate metapsychological concepts of S. Freud's work taking as spine the history of the subject in question. The first chapter is dedicated to discuss the concepts of object-choice and fetishism. The second chapter is devoted to investigate and discuss the concept of the Oedipus complex, ideal Self, and the experience of illusion inherent passions. The third chapter discusses the concepts of mourning and melancholia. Clinical material are presented in each chapter to illustrate the chosen metapsychological concepts and indicate vividly the suffering experienced by the subject of the case, as well as his ability to "cure" / Este trabalho tem a finalidade de investigar as origens e os efeitos da paixão através de um estudo de caso. How to be a student: Students who identify as Aboriginal and their experiences mediating identities at university2014 March 1900 (has links)
The university habitus is not comprised of neutral structures but carries with it a history of privileging certain ways of doing, learning and being. Students who identify as Aboriginal draw from a number of identities at the University that become more or less relevant depending on the context. In this narrative study, seven students who identify as Aboriginal are interviewed about their experiences at the University of Saskatchewan. As a result of these interviews, a perspective of the university takes shape where Aboriginal culture welcomes and comforts students in a supporting role but does not always seem relevant in an academic context. Connections to others and to oneself can impact a student’s engagement in classroom curricula and stereotypes about Aboriginal peoples and grades play an important role in shaping the experiences of students who identify as Aboriginal at university, their definition of success and even their decision to attend university. The “narrative of struggle” can influence students’ choices to frame themselves either in relation to a non-Aboriginal reference group or question why Aboriginal educational success is framed in terms of exceptional individual cases rather than as a group norm. While students’ experiences at the university vary, their purpose for attending university is closely connected to their identities both now and their hopes for creating a better self in the future.

Sustainability Commitment : A study how identity (in)congruence affects organizational commitment.Hansson, Gustav, Zätterqvist, Daniel January 2020 (has links)
Sustainability has become an important topic in many parts of society. However, companies struggle to translate it into their processes. If an individual values sustainability but is not able to fulfill these values an individual may feel a discrepancy; it may force individuals to feel an (in)congruence in their identity, leading to the question, How does sustainability identity (dis)congruence affect commitment? To answer the question a theoretical model was developed from different nuances of identity theory and organizational commitment. A mixed-method was used to capture the data. The results indicate that dependent on commitment style, the organization may override their personal sustainability identities. Our observations indicate that affective committed individuals choose to justify both personal and organizational actions in order to mitigate value incongruent behaviors. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur kunskap och/eller självuppfattning påverkar individers kreditkonsumtion. För att besvara syftet genomfördes en kvalitativ innehållsanalys där 29 fall av det svenska TV-programmet Lyxfällan studerades. Studiens teoretiska utgångspunkt grundar sig i IMB-modellen, där utgångspunkten är att självuppfattning och kunskap har en inverkan på individers kreditkonsumtion. Studiens huvudsakliga resultat visar på att kunskap och självuppfattning är något som i hög grad har en påverkan på individers kreditkonsumtion. Resultaten visar även att individer som skuldsatt sig på grund av onödig konsumtion hade en genomgående låg kunskapsnivå. Vidare kan vi se ett mönster där lyxkonsumtion i alla observerade fall motiverades av ett idealt- eller oönskat själv. Vi kan även se en förändring i beteendet hos de individer som slutade jaga en ideal självbild genom konsumtion. / This study aims to investigate how knowledge and / or self-perception affects credit consumption. Through a qualitative content analysis we have studied 29 cases of the Swedish TV show Lyxfällan. Our theoretical approach is based on the IMB model and that selfperception and knowledge have an impact on credit consumption. We came to the conclusion that knowledge and self-perception is something that to a large extent has an impact on credit consumption. Furthermore, we could see that individuals who lend money due to unnecessary consumption had a consistently low level of knowledge. Finally, we saw a pattern where luxury consumption in all observed cases was motivated by an ideal or dreaded self. We could also see a change in the behavior of the individuals who stopped chasing an ideal self-image through consumption. (This paper is written in Swedish).

The thesis "The Influence of Media on Body Image with Emphasis on the Issue of Eating Disorders" deals with the impact of media on body perception regarding the current beauty ideal, the cult of slenderness as well as the causes of eating disorder spreading in today's world. This thesis aims to determine how media influences body image of the current society and what part it has in the origin of eating disorders. In terms of this aim, the thesis is divided into theoretical background, a part about body image, followed by the part about beauty ideal, then eating disorders and research. The theoretical part discusses the theory of social and media reality, expected media impacts on people as well as selected theories concerning the media impact on body image. The next part deals with the term body image. The third part involves discussion about the ideal of beauty and introduces three current theories about direct impact of media on body image. It also shows some examples from today's media concerning the topic. The fourth part deals with the eating disorders and their media discourse, followed by few examples of their spreading trend and also campaigns against them. Los efectos del bagaje multilingüe en la actitud lingüística y en la motivación para adquirir una lengua extranjeraRutström, Linnea January 2018 (has links)
Este estudio se dedica a investigar los posibles efectos de un bagaje multilingüe en: (1) las actitudes ante el multilingüismo en general, y, más concretamente ante el español como lengua extranjera, (2) en la capacidad de crear autoimágenes ideales multilingües y como hablantes de español y, finalmente (3) en el esfuerzo intencional de adquirir español como lengua extranjera. Como parte del marco teórico del presente estudio se ha utilizado el componente yo idealdel sistema del yo motivacional de L2, proporcionado en primer lugar por Dörnyei (2005), pero ampliado en nuestro estudio para incluir el nuevo paradigma multilingüe. A través del método cuantitativo, en este caso una encuesta, se han analizado las respuestas de dos grupos de alumnos suecos. Un grupo del alumnado tiene el sueco como lengua materna y el otro grupo tiene un bagaje multilingüe, es decir, tiene otra lengua materna. Los resultados indican que el bagaje multilingüe, en esta selección de participantes, afecta positivamente todas las dimensiones estudiadas, aunque en la primera dimensión acerca de las actitudes, las diferencias son menos significativas. Lo más notable entre los resultados del estudio es la mayor capacidad que muestran los alumnos cuyo bagaje es multilingüe de no sólo crear un yo idealmultilingüe, sino también un yo ideal como hablante de español. Es este un resultado que ilumina el rol motivador del multilingüismo en la adquisición de lenguas y señala la necesidad de crear vías educativas que valoren y fomenten el multilingüismo dentro de la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras. / This study is dedicated to investigating the potential effects of a multilingual background in: (1) attitudes displayed towards multilingualism in general, and more specifically towards Spanish as a foreign language, (2) the ability to create ideal, multilingual images of one’s self and of one’s self as a Spanish speaker, and (3) the intentional effort of acquiring Spanish as a foreign language. Part of the theoretical framework for this study comes from the ideal self from The L2 motivational self system, provided firstly by Dörnyei (2005), but herein expanded to include the new multilingual paradigm. Utilizing the quantitative method, in this case a survey, we have analyzed answers provided by two groups of Swedish students. One student group has Swedish as their mother tongue while the other has a multilingual background, meaning that they have a different mother tongue. The answers reveal that in this group of participants, the multilingual background has a positive effect on all three of the aspects studied, although in the first aspect concerning attitudes, the differences are less significant. What is most notorious about the study results is that the participants possessing a multilingual background have a greater ability to create not only an ideal, multilingual self but also an ideal Spanish speaking self. This fact highlights the motivational role that multilingualism plays when it comes to acquiring languages and it points out the need to create educational channels that value and encourage multilingualism within the teaching of foreign languages.

Emotional consequences related to a discrepancy between the self-concept and the ideal self-concept of school going adolescents in MpumalangaDu Plessis, Nadia 01 1900 (has links)
The aim of the research was to establish the emotional experiences of adolescents who experience a discrepancy between their self-concept and ideal self-concept. An empirical investigation was carried out in order to establish the relationship that exists between the self-concept and the ideal self-concept of adolescents and certain emotions they experience. The investigation further identified the emotions that are prominent in the case of a discrepancy between the self-concept and the ideal self-concept. A Self-concept, Ideal Self-concept and Emotional Profile Index Questionnaire were completed by 250 adolescents. Trust and sociability showed the strongest positive correlations and depression, distrust and aggression the strongest negative correlations with aspects of the self-concept. In most instances no relationship existed between the ideal self-concept of adolescents and the emotions they experience. In terms of a discrepancy between the self-concept and the ideal self-concept, results indicated that trust was the most prominent positive emotion and depression, aggression and distrust the most prominent negative emotions. / Psychology of Education / M. An exploratory study of the incorporation of their 'future-self' as part of transition preparation in to and out of further education for young people with learning disabilitiesParry, Melissa Louise January 2016 (has links)
This research explored the perception of the incorporation of ‘future-self’ for young people (YP) moving from specialist provision for children where the Local Authority have identified the provision as Moderate Learning Difficulties and additional needs, their parent/carers views, and the perspectives of professionals supporting their transition to mainstream further education. The ‘future-self’ approach had its basis in social cognitive theory, as the creation of imagined ‘future-selves’ is thought to influence an individual’s behaviour to aid them to work towards their aspired self (Baker, 2015; Markus & Nurius, 1986; Oysterman & James, 2011). Phase one used a case study methodology using semi-structured interviews to explore the YP and their parent/carer’s experience of transition planning having included the young person’s vision of their ‘future-self’, at aged 16. Materials were designed to aid their understanding using visual support. Phase two gained the views of YP using focus groups as they approach transition out of FE at aged 19 or older into continued training, employment, and on towards adulthood, in relation to inclusion of their vision of their ‘future-self’ in this preparation. This phase also explored the perceptions of the professionals for incorporating the young person’s view of their ‘future-self’ using semi-structured interviews. Interview transcripts were analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six stage thematic analysis to identify themes in the data. Focus groups were thematically analysed using Ritchie and Spencer’s (1994) five stage analysis. A number of themes were found for the YP at both stages, the parents/carers and the professionals. Findings indicated that the YP are more involved in the transition planning and a range of methods are applied to prepare the YP however there are a number of barriers still limiting the options for the YP such as: lack of choice available, protectiveness of others, low aspirations, failure to explore holistic longer term outcomes, insufficient multi-agency involvement, overreliance on parents, and the need for more effective strategic planning and awareness of the systems around the YP. The findings from this research indicate that applying a ‘future-selves’ approach for YP as a method to generate future aspirations to motivate YP’s behaviour has been effective as a tool to add to existing transition preparations. This could act as a way to overcome the currently existing poorer long term outcomes for YP with this population. Based upon this small scale project, further investigation would be required to assess the benefit for a wider population.
