Relationships Between K-12 In-Service Teachers’ Personal Environmental Education Teacher Efficacy, Environmental Identity, and Concern for Implementation of California’s Environmental Principles and ConceptsReese, Dean Matthew 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Significant environmental impacts such as climate change, reduction in biodiversity, increasing food scarcity, impacts on water supply and availability, and exacerbation of human health problems are occurring and are expected to increase. Despite these environmental challenges the teaching of California’s environmental literacy standards, the California Environmental Principles and Concepts (CA EP&Cs), in the K-12 public education system is infrequent and inadequate. The purpose of this study was to use a mixed methods approach to examine relationships between environmental identity (EI), personal environmental education teacher efficacy (PEETE), and peak stage of concern (SOC) for implementing CA EP&Cs for K-12 in-service teachers participating in regional 3-year California Environmental Literacy Projects (CELP). In the last year of CELP, a survey was given to 72 of the participating teachers to probe their EI, PEETE, and peak SOC for implementing CA EP&Cs. Eighteen months after the conclusion of CELP, five participating teachers engaged in a follow-up interview providing further insight about the relationships between EI, PEETE, and peak SOC for implementing CA EP&Cs. The findings from quantitative analysis of the survey and the qualitative analysis of the follow-up interviews indicate that participating teachers had high levels of EI and PEETE, and that there is a moderately large correlation between EI and PEETE within the sample of teachers surveyed. These high levels of EI and PEETE did not translate into impact level peak SOC in the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) for most teachers. This finding demonstrates that environmental literacy professional development providers, site and district administrators, and teachers will have to overcome significant challenges to be able to increase the environmental literacy for students in California’s educational system. For environmental literacy professional development providers, it is suggested to surface teachers’ individual challenges to implementing CA EP&Cs and provide explicit recommendations to overcome these challenges. For district and site administrators, it is suggested that the CA EP&Cs be prioritized as important standards that are taught, and that student access to outdoor field experiences be valued and funded. For teachers, it is suggested to prioritize the teaching of CA EP&Cs and to integrate environmental literacy into the teaching of the various content areas where appropriate. Further details and additional suggestions are outlined in this research study.

Blivande förskollärares uppfattningar om fysisk aktivitet i förskolan : En kvalitativ studie med utgångspunkt i fokusgrupper / Prospective preschool teachers' perceptions on physical activity inpreschool : A qualitative study based on focus groupsBjörn, Karin, Jonsson, Lisa January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to contribute knowledge about how prospective preschool teachers view physical activity in preschool and whether there are external framework factors that affect which physical activity is made possible. These are external framework factors such as curriculum, time for planning, educators' skills and attitudes, the size of the children's group, premises, environments and material resources. These framework factors are based on the framework factor theory, which has also been the theoretical basis for our study. 14 prospective preschool teachers divided into three groups participated in the study. Focus groups were used as a method to gain knowledge about what perceptions the prospective preschool teachers have about physical activity and which external framework factors can influence the area. Based on audio recording at the focus group interviews and transcription of the material, which was then analyzed based on the IPA method, a result could be discerned. The results show that the prospective preschool teachers feel that there are influencing framework factors for what physical activity can be made possible in the preschool. The curriculum and the time for planning physical activity are difficult factors to influence. It also appears that the size of the group of children, the competence of educators and the different environments of the preschool are framework factors that affect the enabling of physical activity. At the same time, the prospective preschool teachers see the possibilities in being able to influence these framework factors in order to be able to enable physical activity to a greater extent. Thus, the results show that how preschool teachers choose to relate to the external framework factors, affects for which physical activity takes place in the preschool. Our study shows that prospective preschool teachers have a positive view in seeing the possibilities in the external framework factors, which contributes to children being physically active to a greater extent.

Peace education in Zimbabwean pre-service teacher education : a critical reflectionMakoni, Richard 02 1900 (has links)
This study was designed to bring to the fore the reasons for introducing peace education in pre-service teacher education in Zimbabwean teachers colleges in order to establish the foundations for positive peace in Zimbabwe. The focus of the study was on the preparation of Zimbabwean pre-service teachers in peace education as an effective approach for building durable peace in Zimbabwe. The main research question that guided this study was: Why and how should peace education be introduced at pre-service teacher education colleges in Zimbabwe? The overall aim of the research is to develop an appropriate peace education programme for Zimbabwean teachers’ colleges which will be employed as a strategy for constructing positive peace in Zimbabwe. A phenomenological methodology blending Edmund Husserl’s descriptive phenomenology and Martin Heidegger’s interpretive phenomenology was used to elicit participants’ views on the challenges and possibilities of introducing peace education at pre-service teacher education colleges in Zimbabwe. Data for the study were gathered using semi-structured interviews, focus group interviews and documentary analysis.
Key themes emerging from the data analysis were that (a) there is an absence of positive peace in contemporary Zimbabwe (b) Zimbabwean teachers’ colleges are not offering courses in peace education (c) peace education would benefit Zimbabwe as a country, (d) peace education is implementable at pre-service teacher education colleges in Zimbabwe, (e) there is need to develop an appropriate peace education curriculum that reflects the needs of Zimbabwean citizens and (f) college principals, lecturers, student teachers, policymakers and programme-makers have important roles to play in peace education initiatives. Through this study, the researcher established that peace education is a plausible and sustainable mechanism for building positive peace which has remained obscure in Zimbabwe despite thirty-four years of hard won independence. This shows the necessity for introducing peace education in Zimbabwean teachers colleges as a strategy for positive peace building. It is therefore, recommended that teachers’ colleges in Zimbabwe should introduce peace education in their pre-service programmes in order to build prospective teachers’ capacities to establish an infrastructure for positive peace in their future classrooms, the immediate communities and Zimbabwean society as a whole. / Philosophy of Education / D. Le développement professionnel des enseignants expérimentés par la transmission explicite de pratiques entre pairs / Professional development of experienced teachers through the explicit transmission of practices between peersTalérien, Jean Stéphane 16 November 2018 (has links)
The international scientific literature shows the reality of teachers' informal learning in the workplace, within schools. However, these learnings have several limitations and are of lower quality than those that are carried out in an organized environment. The purpose of this research is precisely the professional development of experienced teachers through a professional development program that considers their informal learning. This study is part of an anthropocultural research program (Bertone, 2011; Chaliès, 2012) whose main theoretical assumptions are borrowed from the philosophy of ordinary language (Wittgenstein, 2004). It was conducted within the framework of two innovative training devices allowing an experienced teacher (the peer trainer) to ostensibly teach one of his specific practices considered effective to an experienced peer teacher (the trained peer). The main research results show the modelling of the professional activity of peer trainers and thus contribute to documenting international research on informal learning by primary school teachers. They also show the learning of new professional practices from trained peers understood as the acquisition of new rule systems. Finally, the results show the professional development of the trained peers understood as the interpretation of the rules learned in new circumstances as well as the reflexive development of the professional activity of the trained peers.

Previous issue date: 2012-10-17 / This paper aimed to know how the in-service teacher education contributes to the professional development of Business Administration professors. In addition to this main objective, three other secondary objectives were defined: to identify the professional teaching knowledge of the professors and how they developed this knowledge, if they develop their knowledge by their own and / or institutional initiatives and, finally, if they have the necessity for an ongoing updating. It was carried out a theoretical study based on many authors, for instance, Imbernón and Marcelo who were the main reference in relation to the professional development theme, while Tardif was the main one who provided the principles in relation to professional teaching knowledge. A survey research instrument was applied with 235 Business Administration professors, from 10 different community universities which are part of ACAFE System (Association of Santa Catarina educational foundations). It was noticed by the collected data that the initial assumption of this work, expressed in the research question that in-service teacher education contributes to the professional development, was correct, because despite all the limitations pointed out in the in-service teacher education offered currently by all institutions, professors still consider that it helps a lot . But it was possible to realize that there is a limited understanding of professional development, as a synonym for in-service teacher education and in this sense, it was confirmed that in-service teacher education could contribute effectively to professional development if it included (1) reflection on the experiential knowledge, (2) updating the knowledge of the specific field of Administration, (3) discussion of the role of the University and its institutional policies, (4) the curriculum of the course as a whole, (5) knowledge of reality and the students of the institution / Este trabalho visou estudar como a formação continuada contribui para o desenvolvimento profissional de professores de Administração.

Previous issue date: 2006-11-03 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Nowadays, the topic of teacher training has played a major role in the research scenario of
human sciences, namely Pedagogy and Educacional Psychology. At the same time, however,
despite the fact that the understanding of some questions concerning this issue has improved
significantly, there has been little research focusing more specifically on training in-service
teachers.
Thus, based on the issues raised above, the aim of this study is to aprehend and analyse meanings
produced by teachers as regards their in-service academic training.
The present analysis involves qualitative research, whose theoretical and methodological
reference background was that of Sociohistorical Psychology. The study was carried out with
only one subject, who teaches at the Elementary Level and was a former student of an academic
in-service training course. Data were obtained from this subject by means of recurring
interviews. The analysis of the data was conducted as from a proposal made by the Signification
Nuclei. From the interviews, five signification nuclei were systematised as a means of
approximation to the zones of meanings which shape the subject of the research in the process of
her academic training. The signification nuclei are as follows: the teaching pedagogical action as
a vital human activity; the pedagogical posture of the teaching trainers; the relationship between
theory and pratice in the process of academic training; the affective mediation involved in being a
teacher; overcoming of difficulties during the academic training period.
As to the final considerations, an aspect to be highlighted is how the subject went through the
process of her academic training, which not only seems to be commmitted to building up a new
teacher but also a new person in her relation to the world. Hence the construction of a new

Previous issue date: 2015-03-25 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This Dissertation analyzes the in service training process of early childhood education
teachers, developed in the context of two public preschools at the municipality of São
Bernardo do Campo, state of São Paulo. The research includes two dimensions: the first one
focus the municipal system, exploring the structure set for the in service training programs;
and the second one examines this process at two municipal preschools. The research followed
a qualitative methodology; it collected and analysed the municipal legal and orientation
documents and the written records about the training practices developed by the schools
management teams (composed by one principal, one pedagogical adviser and one assistant
teacher at each school). Nowadays, teacher s formation is a controversial field, where are
reflected different ideas on models for people, school and society. The preschool teacher
formation is part of this scene, defined, however, by its own specific features. The specific
literature concerning the formation of early childhood education teachers has been asserting
the knowledge built about childhood, as relevant in their training programs. . In this sense,
this dissertation attributes centrality to this generational category, as a central aspect for the
early childhood education teacher s formation. The research results reveal, at the municipal
level, several contradictions and a lack of importance given to the early childhood education
particularities; at the same time, results show that the municipal documents offer an important
general structure for the training process developed at municipal schools. In the two
preschools it was observed that conceptions about early childhood education and teacher
formation followed more integrated and holistic perspectives, what can be explained by the
professionals own formation experiences that showed influences from past external advisors.
The research also registered a relative lack of initiative by the teachers at the in service
formation programs, in comparison with the active leadership of the management team at
A formação do
pelas equipes gestoras nesse processo

Previous issue date: 2017-03-17 / This research aims at investigating an in-service teacher education proposal which
occurs through a Special Project of Action (PEA) in a municipal public elementary
school of São Paulo. In the legal material which guide and standardize the training
actions for all schools, the in-service teacher education is linked to the construction of
the Pedagogical Political Project of schools and aims at improving the quality of
education taking into account the real situation of the school and the community. The
main focus of analysis in this research is the teacher education process, which is
developed in the school and its potential contribution to improve practices carried out
by the teachers of the Literacy Cycle, which covers the first three years of schooling and
includes the age group between six and eight years. For the development of the study,
we chose a qualitative approach, using the methodological procedures of document
analysis, a semi-structured interview with the pedagogical school coordinator and focal
groups with the teachers. The scenario is composed of a municipal elementary school in
the region of São Paulo. The actors are eight literacy teachers with more than five years
of teaching experience, certificated to hold an effective teacher position in Early
Childhood Education and Elementary School Education, who passed exams and titles to
work in public schools. Moreover, they should be working in this school for at least five
years. The context in which the school is inserted is a neighborhood that presents
socioeconomic contrasts, comprising three areas of popular education and middle class
housing. The collected empirical material was analyzed under the theoretical framework
of the field of teacher education. The analysis of the data showed that the PEA is a
powerful space for the training of teachers of the Literacy Cycle, since it promotes
collective work, assuring time and space for studies, discussions, changing experiences
and gradually constitution of a group. The role of the pedagogical coordinator is
relevant for the training actions, and to give support, guidance and follow-up to the
group of teachers in the school. The data also pointed out a need to strengthen
theoretical basis and to deeply study the references indicated in the written material
available in the school. The results of the analysis provided support for the design of a
collaborative teacher education plan to be developed in the PEA / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar a formação permanente de professores do
