Innovation in Education in 'Designated Character Schools': a Case Study of the Directors of Discovery 1 and 'Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti'

Doig, Cheryl, n/a January 2005 (has links)
This dissertation is a case study into participant perceptions of innovation in education. The participants in this research were four directors from two 'designated character' schools, which were set up to be foundationally different from traditional schools through opportunities to explore radical innovation. That is, both schools were conceptualised as sites for exploring radical rather than incremental change. The central questions asked in this study were - what makes for radical innovation in schools; and how is the use of ICT implicated in innovation in schools? The literature review indicated that while there has been an increase in the information regarding innovation in education there has been little research into how this was being developed in non-traditional settings, or in ways that were radical. The role of ICTs in developing innovation was also reviewed, given that the two 'designated character' schools being studied had strong support for ICTs. The main aims of this study were: to identify the features of radical innovation in schools; to explore the barriers against, and drivers for, innovation in schools; to provide insight into the use of ICTs to influence innovation in schools; to contribute to the literature regarding innovation in schools; and to identify future opportunities to innovate. This study was a qualitative one, with symbolic interactionism as its theoretical underpinning. Data were gathered through the use of concept mapping, interviews and a focus group activity. The findings of the study were that radical innovation in schools occurs when there is a cultural shift in the whole notion of schooling. This is difficult to achieve, even for schools that have been set up to be foundationally different. However, such schools can provide examples of some innovative practices that are 'greenfields'. The use of ICTs, while not required for innovation, helps schools create innovative ideas, especially those ideas based around the needs of individual learners. There is a greater chance that this will lead to innovation being sustained. These findings have implications for policy makers to allow schools that are more innovative to try new ideas and to be supported to do so.

The following projects were analyzed: "Escola de Ensino Médio na Catalunya", "Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) - Unidade Litoral" e "Curso de Pós-Graduação lato sensu em Docência para o Ensino Superior em Turismo". The criteria for choosing these three projects were: the positive results of the projects, and the different levels of education represented by them: high school, college, and graduate studies. The results show many points of agreement between the understandings of the concept assessment and the concept of formative assessment. Four fundamental elements for the understanding of formative assessment in innovative curriculum projects were found: a review of the concept of formative assessment, the essential role of self-assessment, attention to teacher training and methodological reinvention / Esta pesquisa de abordagem qualitativa do tipo bibliográfico e documental tem como objetivo discutir e aprofundar a compreensão da concepção de avaliação formativa e identificar como este conceito foi concebido em três projetos curriculares inovadores direcionados para a aprendizagem dos alunos.

The predominance of Information and Communication Technologies - ICT in the so-called Information and Knowledge Society can unfold into new strategies, new forms of administration, and new perspectives to the educational process. In this research, we intend to investigate concept(s) of educational innovation that permeates the proposals for integrating ICT in education programs like Proinfo from Brazil, Educar from Argentina and Enlaces from Chile by analyzing official documents available at these programs sites and in their Educational Ministries. To achieve the goals we set out to do a literature research related to the field of education studies such as: innovation and educational change, public policies for integrating ICT in the educational environment, and; inclusion and digital gap. We seek to make a documentary analysis of a qualitative nature in order to understand the educational innovation, considering the contexts of its genesis, its insertion and its uniqueness as ongoing processes of public politics in Latin American for ICT integration. Find points of convergence in the proposed integration of ICT, that take different aspects of the concepts of innovation in education and support to warrant such inclusion. We saw that very general conclusion is that innovation on ways of teaching and learning is associated with the introduction of ICT in the class room. As well, the vision of innovation in education as a facilitator of the process of modernization and thus participate in the global economy / Ao ser importado do mundo da produção e da administração, o conceito de inovação relacionado à educação surgiu impregnado da concepção de que os avanços da ciência e da tecnologia determinariam o desenvolvimento econômico, social, cultural e educacional.

Breßler, Julia 16 April 2019 (has links)
In the search for the basis of innovation, learning processes increasingly emerge in the foreground. This leads to a linkage of technological developments with concepts of personnel, organisational and competence development. Education is often treated as a co-product, prerequisite or consequence of technical, economic or social innovations. Within the present work, the linkage of innovation and education practices is addressed and the general question is: How, when and why do organisational education activities support the production of innovations? To answer the research questions, an explorative research strategy and a qualitative research methodology will be used. Within the framework of a case study, seven organisations were examined. Through the analysis of the empirical data, social action was uncovered and a depth structure was elaborated. The findings lead to the construction of an innovation didactic, which is described in detail and linked with implications for everyday innovation life.
