In order to understand the dyadic interaction between mother and baby, a qualitative and descriptive approach to research has been adopted. Four dyads comprised of primigravida women and their newly-born premature babies took part in the study. The babies had been born prematurely after 28 to 35 weeks of gestation and admitted to the neonatal intensive-care unit of a public hospital in the greater São Paulo. Two were female and two male. The data was collected from the filming of the first dyadic interaction in the mother s arms, lasting between 15 to 30 minutes. After that first registry, the dyadic behaviors between mother and baby were described and categorized following the intersubjective categories suggested by Fiamenghi (1999) and Fiamenghi et al. (2010). The results from the descriptions of the dyadic interactions showed that the prematurely-born babies establish an intersubjective relationship with their mother. There are positive emotions expressed through smiles, signs of coziness, synchrony, timing and empathy of feelings, falling into the category of (negotiating) interaction, invitation and imitation and (emotional) curiosity and friendliness; low frequency of negative feelings; and no aggressive behavior on the part of the mother. The outcome of this research may reinforce the need to adopt a humanizing approach to the prematurely-born babies; the need of inclusion of the family; and training and awareness of the whole multidisciplinary team. We suggest continuing this study by research using group.

The Phenomenological Experience Of Narrative Transportation

Buchanan, William 01 January 2013 (has links)
Previous research has attempted to identify consequences of mental transportation into narrative worlds. While scales have been developed and validated to measure readers' levels of transportation, the objective quantification has left researchers at a descriptive disadvantage for the full range of qualitative responses to this phenomenon. This study presents a qualitative method of inquiry designed to get at the experience of narrative transportation as it is lived: the phenomenological interview. Interview transcripts were inductively analyzed for common themes that indicate intersubjective features of narrative experience. Four main themes were identified, which were composed of 22 base-level experiences reported by participants. These findings corroborated the extant literature and provided a nuanced understanding of the phenomenon as it is lived.

Vachon, Mélanie 05 1900 (has links)
The global objective of this thesis is to develop a better understanding of how health care providers psychologically negotiate death proximity, given the common contextual tendencies towards denial of death. To address this objective, we suggest an in-depth exploration of the spiritual and existential experience of palliative care nurses. This thesis is comprised of three articles. The first article is a systematic and exhaustive conceptual analysis of the empirical literature that provides an integrative definition of the concept of spirituality at the end of life. The resulting synthesis suggests that spirituality can be defined as “developmental and conscious process, characterized by two movements of transcendence; either deep within the self or beyond the self.” The objectives of the second article are to derive a better understanding of (a) how palliative care nurses handle daily confrontation with death, and (b) the spiritual and existential dimensions of their experience. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 11 palliative care nurses. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of the data allowed the emergence of a typology that described three modes of affective regulation of death confrontation: “Integrating death”, “fighting death”, and “suffering death”. Furthermore, the results suggest a potential relationship between these three factors: (a) nurses’ affective regulation, (b) spiritual-existential experiences' and (3) intersubjective regulation in relationship with patients. The third article describes the effects of a Meaning-Centered Intervention on the spiritual and existential dimensions of nurses’ experience, both at a personal and at a professional level. Ten nurses were interviewed individually after participating in a group Meaning-Centered Intervention. From the nurses’ point of view, the intervention helped them to enlarge their spiritual and existential awareness by encouraging them to become more conscious of (a) the finiteness of life, (2) the sources of meaning in life, (3) the meaning of suffering and (4) the impact of mindfulness. Moreover, participants reported to have benefited from the containing function of the group experience by developing a common language and feeling validated through sharing their experience with peers. In conclusion, our results indicate the importance of individual differences in the psychological mechanisms involved in nurses’ experience of confrontation with death. Taken as a whole, the findings of the three articles suggest a coherent conceptual link between the role of death confrontation in the development of spiritual and existential experiences for palliative care nurses.

Tradição, dinamicidade e estabilidade nas práticas discursivas: um estudo da negociação intersubjetiva na imprensa paulistana / Tradition, dynamism and stability in the discursive practices: a study of intersubjective negotiation in the press in São Paulo

Gonçalves Segundo, Paulo Roberto 19 August 2011 (has links)
The studies about the discursive ways of acting specially, the ones which focus the notion of genre are marked by a vast plurality of approaches, stressing either the polarization, either the integration of the notions of stability, dynamicity, product and process as fundamental principles of their constitution. This thesis through a convergence between the Structuration Theory (GIDDENS, 2009), the critical discursive approach (FAIRCLOUGH, 2007), the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY & MATTHIESSEN, 2004) and the concept of Discourse Tradition (KABATEK, 2004) conceives and analyzes the discursive action considering its process of construction, proposing a methodological and theoretical approach based on quantitative and qualitative procedures that emphasize the detection of discursivesemantic patterns of socially motivated and functionally cohesive linguistic resources, oriented in terms of teleology and intersubjective negotiation which aims to provide basis for the investigation of the fundamental conflict between processes of stability governed, mainly, by the structural coercions of distinct fields in the social systems, which, by means of their deontology, hierarchize the preferential patterns of linguistic resources associated with the execution of certain socially motivated functionalities and dynamicity promoted by social actors in interaction with institutions and by organizations towards their fields of activity, in a constant negotiative development that operates in the tension between standardization and innovation, resistance and compliance, hegemony and alternativity. Thus, it became possible to examine the process of intersubjective negotiation undertaken in São Paulo citys local press editorials, allowing the detection of not only institutional and identificational idiosyncrasies, but also of the deontological preferences associated with the field of activity and the contemporary imperatives of communication, which are intrinsically connected to the developments in the symbolic market. Hence, we could establish that the local press constitute itself as a multifaceted field, with editorials that hold several preferential patterns of discursive construction, encompassing both paradigmatic and syntagmatic compositionality, and fulfill diverse central functionalities criticizing, exhorting, praising and informing , achieved by the actualization of multiple strategies of authority, credibility, intimacy and commitment construal, allowed by a complex combination of interpersonal resources of appraisal, involvement and exhortation.

Liderança e luta por reconhecimento: trocas da relação eu-outro / Leadership and Struggle for Recognition: exchanges of the relationship I-other

Hupfer, Celson Luiz 28 April 2016 (has links)
This thesis aims to confront the phenomena of recognition and leadership, in order to theoretically investigate whether the patterns of recognition identified by Axel Honneth can support a definition of leadership that meets the demands of identity construction and transformation of the XXI Century. The intersubjective recognition is at the center of debates of Philosophy and Social Sciences. Recognition is on the foundation of the construction of subjects and groups identities and it is realized through the active pursuit of intersubjectivity, or the struggle for recognition, as systematized by Honneth. On the other hand, leadership is also a phenomenon of the relationship I-other and integrates all human social life. However, for a long time it was interpreted as attributes, skills and competencies of individuals. This interpretation has been modified after the introduction of the concept of influence, replacing power and authority. To meet the above purpose, the investigation was initiated by an archeology of leadership, including the ways in which it has been interpreted throughout history and the various disciplines, the difficulties of understanding its causes, mechanisms and consequences, the confusion surrounding the sense of the word and the identification of the main theories of leadership, built in the fields of the Social Psychology and Management. Also, contributions from researchers of Philosophy were investigated, as Cicero, Machiavelli and Smith; of Sociology, as Weber and Barnard; of Social Psychology, as Lewin and Smircich; and of Administration, as Burns and Bass. The study demonstrated that leadership is a phenomenon of human intersubjectivity and an important process for the construction of the identities of the subjects. It was deduced that a definition of leadership to contemporary times integrates five key concepts: it is a process that emerges from the interaction I-other; It is the result of multidirectional influence; It implies recognition and knowledge of the other; It is a dialectical process; and it generates transformations on individuals and society. In turn, recognition, as one of the ways of intersubjectivity, was investigated from its first formulations made by Hegel, through the contributions of Mead and Ricoeur, and ending with the systematization as a struggle for recognition proposed by Honneth. From Honneths systematization were extracted four fundamental concepts: the three spheres or patterns of his proposition of recognition, love, law and solidarity and the dialectic the process of struggle. Finally, the thesis conclusions support the theoretical possibility to revise the definition of leadership based on these patterns of recognition and the dialectic process, understanding that the verified leadership concepts meet these standards. It was also proposed a definition of leadership, as well as suggestions for future research involving the study of this object

In this work, we seek to understand what Benveniste calls intersubjective communication, to examine, from this notion, the nature of the interlocution that establishes itself every time that, in the specific situation of enunciation in outpatient visit, the interlocutors (doctor and patient) take on the language. In the process, we derive from studies of Benveniste, the concepts of allocution and exchange. We understand that allocution results from the reversibility between I and you, being necessary to establish the pragmatic effect of intersubjective communication. However, this is not sufficient to ensure intersubjective communication, which is related to the establishment of exchange, defined as the taking of a position of prominence in the enunciation by the partners. Based on this theoretical work, we analyze an outpatient visit to see if the taking of the word by the interlocutors enables (or not) the exchange between the two, being able to establish intersubjective communication. The analysis results show that the establishment of an exchange between doctor and patient, in this situation, establish itself as a discontinuous and contingent process because it puts at stake a number of factors, not all likely to be identified. Thus, we can say that intersubjective communication, in an outpatient visit, occurs as a momentary effect always that, in the enunciation, the pair I and you makes movements towards establishing an exchange. We conclude that the taking of a subjective engagement in the enunciation by the participants of the dialogue is always subject to oscillating in the process.

Möjligheter till kompetensutveckling : ett individperspektiv på relationen människa - organisation : en studie av individer i reklam- och revisionsföretag / Possibilities for competence development : an individual perspective on the relationship between man and organisation

Lindgren, Monica January 1996 (has links)
This study deals with individual possibilities for competence development in knowledge-intensive firms, especially advertising and audit firms. The study has an individual perspective which means that the organization is analyzed as subjective perception of individuals. In this approach I seek for differences between people (subjective interpretations), instead of similarities (intersubjective interpretations). Different subjective interpretations are important for the understanding of different possibilities and restrictions individual competence development. Different individuals can, depending on different values about work and life in general, have different experieces of possibilities for competence development. The research problem deals with different relations between the individual and the organization from the individual perspective of personal competence development. The empirical study is in two parts; case studies at the individual level and a questionnaire to people in advertising firms and audit firms. From the theoretical perspective and the empirical studies, different types of relations between man and organisation have been developed; Respectful professional, respectless professional, respectful holistic, respectless holistic, sectorial professional and holistic professional. The implications of these relations are that certain individual values seems to fit these knowledge- intensive firms better than others. These individual values have been termed respectful, professional and holistic. Individuals with these values experience their possibilities of competence development better than other individuals. Individuals with the values termed respectless and sectorial were less pleased with their companies and their possibilities of competence development. The study also show that individual commitment to organisational values is important for the experienced possibilities for personal competence development. / digitalisering@umu

The interview together with an interpreter : a particular clinical situation for the psychologist

Bounaira, Wafa 15 December 2012 (has links)
This psychology research work explores an especial clinical situation: one including an interpreter. It investigates how the presence of a third person affects a usually private meeting: a consultation between a psychologist and a patient. It also takes an interest in the effects of language co-existence and in the way one’s speech may get lost in translation. The clinical exercise in association with an interpreter has expanded in parallel to the increasing population flows, no matter their reasons and contexts. These particular consultations fit into a contemporary social evolution and they keep spreading, especially in the associations sector. The clinical interview with an interpreter has its roots in several schools of thought. Functionalism, culturalism, psychoanalitic anthropology, ethno-psychoanalysis, clinical ethno-psychiatry as the Ortigues’ clinical experience have influenced this kind of clinical practice and its intercultural professional context. Nowadays new clinical methods are being developed to include an interpreter in group an individual therapies. This particular clinical situation is the consequence of bringing people who do not share the same linguistic code, together. It lad psychologists and interpreters to question themselves: What are the characteristics and the issues of a medical interview with an interpreter? How can a psychologist practice in such a particular circumstance? These questions have been a starting point for both psychologists and interpreters to analyze this clinical exercise. Both professionals have respectively considered the issue according to the three following leads:- The specificity and the particularities of a clinical interview including an interpreter. - The clinical dimension of the speech in a clinical interview including an interpreter and led by a psychologist.- The singular inter-subjective bond that arises between both attending professionals: the clinical psychologist and the interpreter. The notions of translation and interpretation that are central in this type of interviews are not only present in their common meaning but also in a specific context linked to this particular consultation. The matter of translation according to Freud’s work is also approached [etc...]
