Nygård, Moa January 2021 (has links)
This study has been carried out in collaboration with Statens tjänstepensionsverk (The National Government Employee Pensions Board, SPV). The government agency handles occupational pensions for those who is, or has been, a government employee. The purpose of this study was to develop a useful tool for collaborative idea generation and compare an implementation with traditional web programming against developing an extension for a cloud platform. The methods used in the project were interviews with employees at the company, development of a web page with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP and development of an extension for a cloud platform. The idea generation prototype developed was tested in two usability tests. The result shows that the produced prototype reached the goal of being simple to use and easy to get started with seen from a usability perspective. There was also some potential for improvement with even clearer descriptions and less risk for the user to use the tool incorrectly. During the project some difficulties with developing against the cloud platform occurred leading to the database communication not being implemented. The conclusion is that it can be easier to program with more traditional web programming for a developer who is not used to the cloud platform. However, for a company it can be more effective to integrate the application to an already existing platform to be able to save data in one place.

Implementing offline functionality to a web-based module : A proof of concept with the help of a Service Worker API

Madrén, Daniel January 2024 (has links)
The software company AFRY licenses out a Product Support System (PSS) called AFRY Pulse, which serves as a backbone for businesses to deliver value to customers, employees, and stakeholders. Currently, AFRY Pulse lacks offline support, putting them at a disadvantage compared to competitors offering similar PSS solutions. Therefore, this study aims to implement offline support for one of AFRY Pulse's modules, called the Round Module, with the help of Service Worker API.  Based on the problem formulation, the study investigated how well the implementation of the Service Worker API matched the “Must have” requirements, specified in the requirement specification and identified complications that arose during implementation, along with their solutions.  The implementation of offline support followed an agile software development approach with three and a half sprint iterations. Each sprint involved specifying requirements, implementation, and evaluation sessions. The data collection methods used includes maintaining a journal, with notes taken during the implementation and the evaluation sessions. The evaluation sessions included manual black-box testing, manual code-review, and semi-structured interviews.  The results from the evaluations produced two themes Implemented correct functionality and Improving visual response. Furthermore, the complications that were found during the implementation were Service Worker going to the redundant state, Service Worker not being able to stop fetch requests and AbortController being redundant within the Service Worker.

Inspirationsplattform : kvinnor i teknik / Inspirational platform : women in technical fields

Brun, Erica, Häggström, Ellionore January 2024 (has links)
In hope of lessening the inequal division between the amount of women and men studying and working in technical fields a project to create an inspirational platform has been initiated by the organisation Pepp. By the end of the first stage of the project a webpage has been created with frontend programming. This webpage contains several imaginary person portraits of imaginary individuals studying or working in technical fields. JavaScript filter functions have been created in order to filter between these individuals. All the necessary data for the portraits are collected in a database in form of an array in JavaScript. User tests were conducted where seven separate subjects were allowed to test the finished person portrait webpage. In the future the website will be improved and expanded with several webpages. Portraits of real individuals will also be collected and replace the imaginary individuals on the webpage.

Leiva, Willie Dresler 12 September 2003 (has links)
There is an increasing demand for hypermedia applications based on the WWW (World Wide Web), known as Web Information Systems (WIS). These applications present specific requirements in addition to those of traditional software systems, thus fostering the need for investigating suitable models to support their development. In particular, systems for Distance Education based on the Web present very specific characteristics and requirements. Current models for hyperdocument modeling and specification are not completely suitable for representing domain specific characteristics such as the need of tracking student progress and evaluating their learning process through diagnostic and formative assessments. This scenario motivated the proposal of a model to support WISs targeted at distance education, called MDE (Model for Distance Education). MDE extends the HMBS (Hyperdocument Model Based on Statecharts) hyperdocument model to describe hypertext content in the educational domain. It adopts as its underlying model a variant of the Statecharts formal specification technique, whose organizational structure and operational semantics allows defining the organizational structure and navigational semantics of complex hyperdocuments. MDE also incorporates the technique of conceptual mapping, that adds educational meaning to hierarchical graphs. MDE’s major strengths are thus the ability to capture relevant information about user behavior when studying on-line educational material and make such information available to the teacher / instructor in order to support formative assessment of students. As a proof of concept, the prototype of an environment for authoring and offering distance courses based on MDE has been developed, called ATEnA (Adaptive Training Environment with Support for Assessment). The results of practical and conceptual evaluations of the model and system developed are also presented in this thesis.

Effects and opportunities of native code extensions for computationally demanding web applications

Jarosch, Dennis 17 January 2012 (has links)
The World Wide Web is amidst a transition from interactive websites to web applications. An increasing number of users perform their daily computing tasks entirely within the web browser, turning the Web into an important platform for application development. The Web as a platform, however, lacks the computational performance of native applications. This problem has motivated the inception of Microsoft Xax and Google Native Client (NaCl), two independent projects that facilitate the development of native web applications. These allow the extension of conventional web applications with compiled native code, while maintaining operating system portability. This dissertation determines the benefits and drawbacks of native web applications. It also examines the actual performance capabilities of JavaScript web applications. An experimental performance analysis is undertaken in order to determine and compare the performance characteristics of native C applications, JavaScript web applications, and NaCl native web applications. Four application benchmarks consider different performance aspects: number crunching (serial and parallel), 3D graphics performance, and data processing. The results confirm that NaCl''s performance in computational tasks and 3D graphics is impeccable. On the other hand, it shows substantial limitations in data processing. These are evaluated and possible solutions are discussed. The results of the performance analysis are complemented with an evaluation on the basis of technical and non-technical criteria and a discussion of the technical, political, and strategic drivers for NaCl.

Deep Learning in the Web Browser for Wind Speed Forecasting using TensorFlow.js / Djupinlärning i Webbläsaren för Vindhastighetsprognoser med TensorFlow.js

Moazez Gharebagh, Sara January 2023 (has links)
Deep Learning is a powerful and rapidly advancing technology that has shown promising results within the field of weather forecasting. Implementing and using deep learning models can however be challenging due to their complexity. One approach to potentially overcome the challenges with deep learning is to run deep learning models directly in the web browser. This approach introduces several advantages, including accessibility, data privacy, and the ability to access device sensors. The ability to run deep learning models on the web browser thus opens new possibilities for research and development in areas such as weather forecasting. In this thesis, two deep learning models that run in the web browser are implemented using JavaScript and TensorFlow.js to predict wind speed in the near future. Specifically, the application of Long Short-Term Memory and Gated Recurrent Units models are investigated. The results demonstrate that both the Long Short-Term Memory and Gated Recurrent Units models achieve similar performance and are able to generate predictions that closely align with the expected patterns when the variations in the data are less significant. The best performing Long Short-Term Memory model achieved a mean squared error of 0.432, a root mean squared error of 0.657 and a mean average error of 0.459. The best performing Gated Recurrent Units model achieved a mean squared error of 0.435, a root mean squared error of 0.660 and a mean average error of 0.461.
