Vilken kvinna? En intersektionell diskursanalys av ämnesordlistan i databasen KVINNSAM / Which Woman? An Intersectional Discourse Analysis of the Subject Heading List in the Database KVINNSAMLidman, Katarina January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to critically analyse the subject heading list in the database KVINNSAM at Kvinnohistoriska samlingarna. This list is intended for the retrieval of gender specific information and the subject heading women is implied. The main question is: which woman is represented in the list? The thesis analyses specifically the representation of disability, ethnicity and other sexualities than heterosexuality. Kvinnohistoriska samlingarna, the concept of gender studies and KVINNSAM is presented. Previous research concerning critical approaches to classification, which shows that classification systems and subject heading lists are products of their cultural and social contexts, is reviewed. The concept of intersectionality is used as a theoretical background. This is a perspective that theorizes how gender and other sociocultural power differentials such as ethnicity, race, sexual preference and ability/disability interact in the construction of subjectivity and material conditions of subjects. The thesis has its main focus on the Swedish research and discusses in what way the list is imposed by what the Swedish researchers Paulina de los Reyes and Diana Mulinari names a hegemonic feminism, a feminism that ignores differences among women and focuses on the Swedish, middle class, working woman. The method used is Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. The results of this study shows that the subject heading list in the database KVINNSAM mainly represents a Swedish, working, heterosexual, able-bodied mother and that the lists’ possibilities to adequately represent other subjectivities is limited. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Från Kvinnohistoriskt Arkiv till KvinnSam : kunskapsorganisationens funktion för genusvetenskapens akademiska etablering / From Kvinnohistoriskt Arkiv to KvinnSam : the knowledge organisation’s function in the academic establishment of gender studiesPreinitz Gärdinge, Louise January 2017 (has links)
KvinnSam is stated to have had an important role in laying the foundation of academic gender studies. The initial organization was founded relatively long before the subject entered the academic arena, which places the knowledge organization of the field prior to the authoritative demand for it. This study aims to analyze events, initiated by the library, significant to the academic establishment of gender research from a discursive perspective. By utilizing the concepts of documentality and legitimacy, and cognitive authority the analysis answers the question of what active function and significance the library has had in establishing the academic field of gender studies. The empirical material is gathered from the libraries own archives on historical women associations, published accounts of librarians engaged in the organization and articles and debate pieces published in media. The historical method used results in no produced material but a controlled selection based on the theoretical approach and the placement of the accounts in a contemporary context. The analysis results in a review of both the official and informal constitutive forms the library has been situated in and its effects on legitimacy. It also covers the relations to the academic sphere as cognitive authority and the process of making an uninstitutionalised subject field considered veracious science. The most valuable conclusions are the library’s function to describe and value knowledge and thereby declare their scientific relevance, as well as the discursive significance of stating the field as a possible research domain by creating an academic infrastructure for it.

Arkiv, bibliotek eller annat? : En studie om olika perspektiv på KvinnSams funktion och roll som institution 1958-1990 / Archive, library or something else? : A study on differing perspective on KvinnSams’ functions 1958–1990Weman, Sarah January 2024 (has links)
The Swedish library institution of KvinnSam, has since its founding in 1958, had a pivotal role in establishment and advancement of research in gender studies. Since the establishment, the primary role and aim of said institution has been to promote research of women’s history. However, throughout the years, the functions to fulfil the role have changed. This bachelor thesis aims to outline the role and functions of KvinnSam during the early years of its organization, between 1958–1990. The study examines the differing perspective on KvinnSam’s role and function using institutional theory, particularly the concept of “organization as culture”. In addition, the study used a horizon of understanding of the phenomenon of archival and library. The findings reveal that the perceptions of KvinnSam’s functions have evolved over the years. In the 1960’s and early 1970’s, KvinnSam was primarily considered an archive, library and memory institution. By the 1980’s, KvinnSam was primarily considered a research institution. Moreover, significant internal conflicts arose from differing opinions among KvinnSam’s members regarding how to support women’s history research.

På väg från ingenstans : kritik och emancipation av kunskapsorganisation för feministisk forskningSamuelsson, Jenny January 2008 (has links)
<p>This study deals with knowledge organization of feminist research, in bibliographic catalogues and in a Swedish context. The thesis develops a definition of feminist discourse which incorporates but is not limited to feminist research. Feminist research, in turn, is understood as articulating a critical approach aimed at critiquing and changing inequitable gender relations. The thesis analyzes the meaning of a range of feminist perspectives through a close text analysis of feminist PhD-dissertations. Two universal knowledge organization systems: Svenska ämnesord and Klassifikationssystem för svenska bibliotek; and one subject-specific system: Kvinnohistoriska samlingarnas ämnesord, are studied in order to discuss the extent to which they are able to articulate feminist perspectives, as well as how they actually articulate such perspectives in practice. The two universal systems studied tend to marginalize feminist perspectives as forms of knowledge. This thesis interprets this marginalization in the light of these systems’ putative objectivistic and universalistic epistemology and ontology. It is suggested that they privilege disciplinary knowledge over interdisciplinary knowledge forms, and substantive topics over conceptual perspectives. Guidelines for knowledge organizatory practice tend to encourage indexers and classifiers to search for central substantive themes. In this schema, feminism is understood as a field relating to socio-political women’s issues. Feminist knowledge qua knowledge is marginalized by the systems studied, and is at times given a plain wrong classifycation. further, this thesis suggests that the subject-specific knowledge organization system studied: Kvinnohistoriska samlingarnas ämnesord, is only able to deal with feminist research in an incomplete and inadequate way. Although this index is designed to classify texts within the broad subject field of: women’s studies, masculinity studies and gender research, as well as other material relevant to the field, the structure of the index is too simple and does not allow for associative relationships between terms; nor does it define feminist discourse. The premises and guidelines for knowledge organization practice are also under-developed or not well defined. Successful organization of feminist knowledge needs instead to be based on a particular understanding of knowledge and knowledge organization as contextually shaped (and shaping). Feminist literature is first and foremost about expressing feminist discourse qua theme, perspective, and part of the feminist tradition (such as critical, women-centring, and reflexive feminisms) – an observation that needs to be reflected in the knowledge organization.</p>
