Diario de Iowa. correspondencia y poesíaVera Arias, Maria Camila 01 May 2016 (has links)
In this creative project, I combine non fiction prose and poetry in an organic way. Prose is framed in the form of letters that I wrote for real people telling them about my life experiences in Iowa City, and some reflections about past events that I came up with while living here. Poems are the result of a more refined way of expressing how I felt about the subjects on the letters. Love, rejection, and my struggle with writing are some of the trending topics the reader will find in this work.

Language assimilation and crosslinguistic influence : a study of German exile writersFerguson, Stuart Douglas, University of Western Sydney, Macarthur, Faculty of Education January 1996 (has links)
Social and textual aspects of the language assimilation of German exile writers are studied. Major differences concern the length of their exile, their foreign language learning ability and their attitude to assimilating, and the primary sources are letters and diaries. Descriptive analysis is performed on the prose, mainly in the area of crosslinguistic influences. Despite their differing assimilation, the prose contains similar crosslinguistic influences. There are consistent changes in crosslinguistic influences during the course of language assimilation, initially determined by the extent of second language acquisition. However, language learning factors give way to social factors with crosslinguistic infuences ultimately governed by the functional independence of the second language. Lexically triggered code-switching is usually a step towards functionally motivated code-switching. Finally a tentative, schematic model of how the process of language assimilation causes and modifies crosslinguistic influences is proposed. / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Elizabeth Carter's Legacy: Friendship and Ethicsfazlollahi, Afag S. 20 April 2011 (has links)
"Elizabeth Carter's Legacy: Friendship and Ethics" examines the written evidence about the relationships between Elizabeth Carter and her father, Dr. Nocolas Carte; Catherine Talbot; Sir William Pulteney (Lord Bath); and Samuel Johnson to explain how intellectual and personal relationships may become the principal ethical sdource of human happiness. Based on their own set of moral values, such as intellectual and individual liberty and equality, the relationships between Carter and her friends challenged eighteenth-century traditional norms of human relationships.
The primary source of this study, Carter's poetry and prose, including her letters, present the poet's experience of intellectual and individual friendship, reflecting Aristotle's ethics, specifically his moral teaching that views friendship as a human good contributing to human happiness--to the chief human good. Carter's poems devoted to her friends, such as Dr. Carter, Talbot, Montagu, Lord Bath, as well as her "A Dialogue" between Body and Mind, demonstrate her ethical legacy, her specific moral principles that elevated human relationships and human life. Carter's discussion of human relationships introduces the moral necessity of ethics in human life.

Representation Of The Ottoman Orient In Eighteenth Century English LiteratureBaktir, Hasan 01 September 2007 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis studies the representation of the Ottoman Orient in Eighteenth Century English Literature. The thesis argues that a comprehensive understanding of the representation of the Ottoman Orient in 18th century English literature requires a new perspective / thus investigates different aspects of the interaction between the Ottoman Orient and 18th century Europe. Said' / s Orientalism discusses how European writers created a separate discourse to represent the Orient. The present thesis does not completely reject Said' / s arguement / rather it argues that there was also a negotiating tendency which did not make radical distinction between the East and the West. Relying on 18th century pseudo-oriental letters, oriental tales and oriental travelogues the study tries to indicate that representation of the Ottoman Orient in 18th century English literature was different from the earlier centuries because developig critical and liberal spirit established a negotiation between the two worlds. The negotiation of the two worlds has been studied as a significant theme of the pseudo-oriental letters, oriental tales and oriental travelogues. The present study tried to indicate how the critical and inquisitive spirit of the age of Enlightenment interanimated Oreiental and European cultures.

Definitionen av tillgång och skuld : En studie av ingivna remissvar / The defination of assets and liabilities : A study of received comment lettersLundh, Viktoria, Zarrabi, Frida January 2015 (has links)
Around the world, the increase in globalization of capital markets raises many issues forinternational standard-setters. Constant work is being done to develop and renew financialstatements internationally. In 2013, IASB published a DP: A review of the ConceptualFramework (DP/2013/1) for public comment, exploring possible changes to the IASBsConceptual Framework for Financial Reporting. The DP is the first step towards issuing arevised Conceptual Framework. In this paper the focus was on the proposed definitions ofassets and liabilities. The DP has received a total of 243 responses, 29 of these have beenanalysed. The purpose of this paper was to examine and report on the responses of how assets andliabilities should be recognised. Additionally, emphasis was placed on analysing the IASB'spossible objectives of revising The Conceptual Framework. This reflects a quantitativecontent analysis using an inductive research approach composed of empirical data consistingof the received responses. The responses have raised opinions and criticisms of proposals regarding DP. In addition toDP, further emphasis was placed on IASB standard-setting process, essential qualities infinancial statements, international standards and the existing definition of an asset and aliability. Results showed a positive trend towards a change in the definition of assets andliabilities as well as the development of The Conceptual Framework. The above resultsindicate that improvements are needed and that it would be useful to publish an ED toillustrate the conflict between current and proposed standards. In conclusion, with thecomment letters, the IASB most likely will publish an ED.(This essay is written in Swedish).

Vytauto Kubiliaus asmenybė dienoraščiuose ir laiškuose / Vytautas Kubilius’s personality in diaries and lettersPopovienė, Vilma 24 September 2008 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / In this master’s work is tried to show Lithuanian literature and critic Vytautas Kubilius’s personality spread processes in diaries and letters, also to highlight the difference between him as an authoritative scientist in reception literature critic and in scientific works, and him as opening psychological drama in private texts.
