Exploatering av den utländska arbetskraften – eller vad? : En facklig syn på invandring och invandringspolitik. Livsmedelsarbetareförbundets tidning, Mål och Medel 1960-1973 / Exploatation of the foreign workforce - or what? : The perspective of a workers union on immigration and immigration policy. Livsmedelsarbetareförbundets tidning, Mål och Medel 1960-1973Magnusson, Joel January 2014 (has links)
The following essay is a study about how migrant workers and immigration policies were discussed from Livsmedelsarbetareförbundets union press, Mål och Medel, to the members of the union between the years 1960-1973. To find this out I set these questions: What sort of information appear in Mål och Medel concerning migrant workers and immigrant policies, and how does this change over time? How does Mål och Medel present the immigrant workers opinions? The method for the study is based on analyzing articles, interviews and others texts found in Livsmedelsarbetareförbundets union press, Mål och Medel, and what they want to inform the members of the union about. The study’s results have found that during the early parts of the 1960s immigrant workers were not included in the union press at all. Towards the late 1960s the immigrants were discussed, but in a manner which implied that immigrants are naturally exploited and therefore must the immigration be controlled better. It also discussed immigrants had some sort of “adaptation problem” to the Swedish norm. The immigrants were expected to adapt themselves to become more like the normal “Swedish worker”. In the early 1970s the immigrant workers become gradually more included with the rest of the union members and are considered to be a great asset in Swedish workforce. During this period Mål och Medel also publishes immigrant workers opinions and frequently discusses the possibilities for education in Swedish for the foreign part of the workforce.

Hunger och klasskamp : Västervik 1917 / Hunger and class struggle : Västervik 1917Sjöstedt, Emil January 2019 (has links)
The protests and strikes in Västervik 1917 have been considered to be the start of the hunger movement in Sweden. The events have been called the Swedish revolution. The Swedes who participated were inspired by the February revolution in Russia, and there were similarities, but the reformist side won and the outcome was the equal vote for most men and women. This essay analyzes the way four newspapers report from the events in relation to the political orientation of the newspapers, the involvement of women in the strikes and protests, and how the events in Västervik can be used for educational purposes. The two right wing newspapers wrote negatively about the worker´s movement and, the two left wing newspapers published articles that acknowledged the struggle of the workers and the abuse against the workers by the factory owners. Three of the newspapers (Smålands Allehanda, Smålands Folkblad and Västerviks Veckoblad) initially have relatively neutral articles and the comments about the opposing political side are relatively subtle. The revolutionary syndicalist newspaper Syndikalisten has a more aggressive tone because it functions as the official paper of SAC, the Swedish workers central organization. The inquiry shows that women were not that much involved in the strikes and protests in Västervik. They were active in the certain sectors, such as foodstuff, where they, in certain cases, could make a big difference. The events in Västervik 1917 can be used in school when the students work with the history of their local communities in a social learning environment.

Representation och strukturers betydelse för inflytande : Om fackförbunden inom LOs ungdomsverksamhet / The importance of representation and structures to establish influence : A study of the Trade Unions Youth Activities within The Swedish Trade Union ConfederationOlofsson, Katrin January 2015 (has links)
“The importance of representation and structures to establish influence. A study of the Trade Unions Youth Activities within The Swedish Trade Union Confederation.” -Katrin Olofsson This essay is studying the importance of representation and structures for the youth to establish influence, within the Trade Unions of The Swedish Trade Union Confederation, LO. More specific it is about the youths influence in each trade union´s executive committee. The representation and structures studied is at a central level and the youths are restricted to being under the age of 30. The purpose is to try to find a model and specific factors that can explain if, and in that case what, that could be the cause of a higher level of influence in some trade unions compared to others. Three questions are essential for the essay. Are the different structures for youth activities, within the trade unions of LO, affecting the representation of youths in their executive committees? Do any combinations of structures seem to be more profitable for a higher level of representation of youths within the executive committees? How do the different forms of structure and representation seem to affect the influence of youths within the executive committees? The study is built on interviews with representatives from each of the fourteen trade unions within LO, that has the mandate and trust from their organisations to represent them in these questions. They are also all representatives in the LO Youth Committee. The findings were essentially that formal structures in forms of youth committees together with the possibility to have a co-opt member from the youth committee within the executive committee seemed to affect and enhance the representation and the influence.
