Complexity Theory of Leadership and Management Information

Simpson, Mark Aloysius 01 January 2018 (has links)
Implementing effective leadership strategies in management of information systems (MIS) can positively influence overall organizational performance. This study was an exploration of the general problem of failure to lead effectively in the current knowledge-based economy and the resulting deleterious effects on organizational performance and threats to continuing organizational viability. The specific problem was the lack of understanding regarding the interaction of leadership processes with MIS functions and the impact on organizational success. Managers' and employees' lived experiences of leadership in small- to medium-sized enterprises were explored, as well as how those experiences influenced the organization's adaptive responses regarding technology and performance in the knowledge-based economy. The complexity theory of leadership was applied as the theoretical foundation for this study. A phenomenological methodology was used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed through open coding to identify emergent themes from the data. The themes were leaders motivate employees' positive work-related behaviors, effective communication skills ensure accessibility and efficiency of the organizational information system, and leadership practices influence business productivity. This study contributes to social change by providing insights for managers and employees regarding effective strategies for working as teams and networks via the use of nontraditional leadership theory, which promotes company sustainability by demonstrating the benefits of responding to the changing economy.

Enhancing User Experience while retrieving information via Dashboard

Bhutani, Mahima January 2019 (has links)
With rapid growth in technical and social sector, the amount of data produced and retrieved has grown exponentially. Hence, there is a dire need for a management information system (MIS) to manage and structure such data. This study was initiated to learn about the problems and needs of the employees of a truck manufacturer organisation while working for long duration projects. The information about processes and tasks is available but in an unstructured manner through excel spreadsheets which makes it difficult for users to retrieve required information during crucial times. An information system in the form of a dashboard was designed and proposed to overcome the problems faced by users. This study focuses on evaluating the user experience of employees while retrieving desired information about the procedures using both dashboard and excel spreadsheets. To investigate the work structure and problems of employees, interviews were conducted. The results were analysed and a dashboard solution was proposed and developed with real time data. With employees coordination, few usability tests were conducted and the feedback was recorded for future work. According to the study results, the efficiency of employees can be increased and the decision making can be improved using MIS. With better retrieval techniques user experience was also enhanced. The interactive visualisations of dashboard attracted users and was used efficiently for providing tons of information about procedures to be followed.

Lin, Lawrence Unknown Date (has links)
Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is a powerful tool for describing and implementing an organization’s strategy. The four-perspective model of describing a value-creating organization can be regards as a language for executive teams to discuss the direction and priority of their strategic agenda. In terms of strategy measures, they do not only represent as the key performance indicators (KPIs) of four independent perspectives, but also regard as the cause-effect linkage of goals and items among the four perspectives of BSC. Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton created the expression model of the cause-effect linkage to assist the discussion process of executive teams. It is so called a strategy map. They both also demonstrated a fundamental principle underling the BSC; i.e. “If you can measure, you can manage it.” From an empirical perspective, people believe that management information systems (MISs) can help the efficiency and effectiveness of business administration as well as be the powerful tool of generating data for various performance measures. Therefore, by analyzing a case of a BSC roll-out enterprise, this research would like to address whether the data requirements of strategic measures generating from strategy maps are fulfilled by the data output from the MISs or not. Is it a necessity to support the strategic goals of an enterprise first in case of building MISs for an enterprise? After studying the status of roll-out BSC enterprises in different industries, it shows that there is a “KPI-data accuracy” issue between actual KPIs needed and the data resources from. The purpose of this research is to build a data requirement planning model to find out the “accurate data” by using a business intelligence (BI) tool to access the effective information from ERP, CRM, SCM, Workflow, KM, e-Learning; etc., and then to manipulate those data in order to output the BSC indicators for executive teams for monitoring the status achieved of BSC from the dashboard anytime. Moreover, the study also standardizes the BSC roll-out processes and the integration processes of MISs by summarizing into time tables of project management which can be regarded as a reference kit for enterprises intending to implement BSC in the future. Finally, the study also demonstrates the benefits of BSC in assisting change management of an organization, in evaluating the intellectual capital, and in measuring information capital readiness of an enterprise, etc.

Extension de l’ingénierie des exigences à l’information spatio-temporelle : apports dans le contexte des systèmes d’information de gestion / Extension of requirements engineering in the space-time information : contributions in the context of management information systems

Touzani, Mounir 16 December 2016 (has links)
In a world where people and objects are increasingly connected and localized, geographic information (GI) is very present in our daily life and its inclusion in the management information systems becomes essential. Individuals and enterprises mobilize increasingly to orient themselves in space, access to various statistical data georeferenced, plan travel...Current developments on mobile systems, for example, involve a space-time dimension, often reserved for geographic information systems (GIS). Therefore, many software systems are required to maintain a very close relationship and precise with the real world to open up new fields of application such as smart cities, factories of the future or a new generation of logistics systems. The magnitude of this change is major since in terms of data, at least 80% are concerned (http://www.esrifrance.fr/sig1.aspx). However, an analyst often faces difficulties in capturing requirements in general, necessitating an organized and systematic approach. It is in this context that we direct our study to the field of requirements engineering (RE) to better build an argument that takes into account the space-time dimension. This is a key step in the development of such requirements in a management information system development project. The proposed framework includes contributions in the fields of RE and geomatics. In this sense, we have particularly caught the KAOS method that offers a goal oriented requirements engineering approach and equipped with a software named "Objectiver".First, we propose an extension of the KAOS methodology in the space-time dimension. KAOS already answered the questions of "WHY", the "HOW", the "WHAT" and the "WHO". We approach our research specifically, the issues of "WHEN" and "WHERE". We use this for two lines of research : one explores the duality between space and time dimensions in order to transpose the spatial dimension of requirements engineering techniques already defined. On the other hand, we consider notations widely used in GIS, and to integrate them in primitive requirements engineering and thus facilitate the capture of space-time requirements. We made a prototype using the tool "Objectiver". However, the results presented are applicable to other methods and tools. To push as much as possible the performance of an existing system, we propose as a second step, to examine more specifically the open integration strategies and operating bricks started in data and/or services to meet geomatics to identified needs. We believe the users of these information systems must be able to integrate space-time aspects in their management rules or business rules. This raises the question "how to identify the space-time aspects of business rules by a RE process ?" Which brings us to reflect on the construction of a management information system that is capable of separating the business view and the system view. We show specifically how business rules can be identified on the basis of space-time aspects. We have equipped our contribution and illustrate through a real case study of merger of two universities. Next, we show through this same case study how to deploy such rules in the most appropriate components ensuring secure an open architecture.

Análise dos sistemas de informação do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto: rumo ao sistema de informação gerencial / Analyze the Information System of the Clinical Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (HCFMRP-USP).

Góes, Wilson Moraes 13 December 2007 (has links)
This research has for objective to analyze the Information System of the Clinical Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (HCFMRP-USP) to identify the problems that affects the information generation at the strategic level, as well as the elaboration of a development plan and the phases needed to construct a Management Information System. This researched was based on bibliographic review of books, articles, dissertations, theses, and other source that were related to Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Hospitals Information Systems, Business Intel ligence, Health Management and Hospital Management. This work was divided into phases. The first phase of this work was the reading of the summary of the found material to verify the fitnesses of this study to the main objective of this research. The second was the full reading of the original material selected in the first phase. In this moment was observed the coherence between the proposal, the methods and the results of such works. In the third phase was developed a plan to create a Management Information System for specifics areas in the hospital, and the phases to build it was defined. In this last decade, at least in largest health corporation and in some small hospital of Brazil this scenery experienced an expressive growth. The hospital\'s informatization process is very complex, especially in university hospital in which besides taking care of health problems it has to deal with teaching and research. A hospital information system is design to contribute to three hierarchy levels: operational, management and strategic. The hospital (HCFMRP-USP) has an integrated information system that has for dozen of integrated subsystems. The amount spent by the hospital is increased by different factors. Would be necessary to increase the allocated resources as well as a better rationale to use them. The managers must increase the productivity in order to achieve greater levels of coverage to satisfy the client\'s needs for better healthy services. It is evident the need to transform data in information to support management decisions. Great part of the data that are needed is stored in subsystems at HCFMRP, but to turn them into information isn\'t as simple as it may seem. There is nothing wrong with this system or its operational database. They were developed to support the corporation and its operations, and the data are stored in such structured detailed that doesn\'t support, as it should, management decisions. This is one of the main arguments why there is the need of an ambient that will provide faster and specific access to information and the data warehouse technology has provide some alternative to speed up and qualify the process to support management decision.
