[pt] OS SENTIDOS DO TRABALHO PARA MULHERES ATUANTES NO MERCADO FINANCEIRO: ENTRE A VOCAÇÃO E A REMUNERAÇÃO / [en] THE MEANINGS OF WORK FOR WOMEN IN THE FINANCIAL MARKET: SOMEWHERE BETWEEN VOCATION AND COMPENSATIONJULIANNA GRIPP SPINELLI 13 October 2015 (has links)
entrevistadas conquistaram independência financeira, crescimento pessoal e
profissional.
enquadram. / [en] This study aimed to understand what meanings are assigned to work by
women who work in the financial market. To this end, qualitative research
methodology was chosen, using semi-structured interviews with 16 women, who
worked in financial institutions in Rio de Janeiro, such as asset management
companies, brokerages and investment banks. The findings of the study suggest
that most of the interviewed women define work as a way to afford their life style,
by accomplishing big projects and obtaining comfort. They also assign most of
their personal achievements to their work. Furthermore, it was observed that work
is considered a source of pleasure, whereby participants accomplish financial
independence and personal and professional growth. All these work
representations are mentioned by the participants combined to the typical
aggressive compensation of the financial market, annually received as a bonus
paycheck. This fact proposes that all work positive assumptions mentioned by the
participants are, not only, by mostly, due to the high salaries that most of them
earn.

[pt] A EXPERIÊNCIA IMERSIVA DO ESCURO NA PRODUÇÃO DE SENTIDO / [en] THE EXPERIENCE OF THE DARK IN THE PRODUCTION OF MEANINGBARBARA MACIEL PINHEIRO FUTURO 19 October 2020 (has links)
[en] The present research explores the relationship between the environment and the production of meaning, in the experience of the dark, using as theoretical basis lines of philosophical thought, such as the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty, the aesthetic experience of Dewey, the hegemony of vision of Pallasmaa, the theory of silence of Orlandi, among others. The study aims to understand if and how the immersive experience with the deprivation of one of the senses affects the individual s processes of signification. From the 1980s to the present day, cognitive functions have gone from being considered purely intellectual mechanisms to welcoming an approach that integrates corporeality and the environment in which the individual is inserted. In this study, I propose that the physical environment serves as a mental context for the meaning processes of the individuals in it, and that the immersive experience functions as an aesthetic experience, regarding its effects on the production of meaning. I also consider that, in the processes of signification, the word and the image act in the same way, domesticating the meaning. Based on Eni Orlandi s study on silence, I propose the approach of the dark as a space of subjectivity, the incompleteness necessary for the work of the imagination in the production of meaning (Orlandi, 1997).

Betydelsen av patientdagbok på IVA. En litteraturstudieÅkesson, Helene January 2009 (has links)
Patients at intensive care units are exposed for unpleasant experiences through illness, treatment and environment. The relatives describe feelings of unreality and fear. Patients remember dreams, nightmares and factual events a long time after discharge from intensive care. Diaries are used at many intensive care units, as a tool for understanding memories and loss of memories. The aim of this literature review is to illustrate the meaning of diaries for intensive care patients and their relatives. Nine articles were chosen and examined. Five categories were identified through the analyze: communication, security, feelings, understanding/accepting and a valuable document over time and memory.

An Embodying Architecture: A Response to Toni Morrison's BelovedRobinson, Candace V 01 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)
To embody is to give a tangible or concrete form to an abstract concept. The use of the term Embodying Architecture notes a desire for an architectural structure that materially supports individuals concept of the way that they want to operate in the word. It is also notes that architectural space does not currently support this. Those individuals farthest away from the modes of cultural production are the least represented spatially. These occupants are therefore left in the position of being trapped in a space that denies them their desired way of being.
Numerous critical theorist have noted the ways that architecture and urban design disenfranchise people, Beatriz Colomina, Sexuality and Space, Adrienne Rich, Politics of Location, Kim Dovey, Framing Places. More important perhaps, are writings by theorist such as Neil Leach and Julia Kristeva that connect space with a human need for articulation.
This design project takes as its site Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved. The text is precisely about the space of disenfranchisement and the tasks of actualizing yourself when there seems to be no space in which to do so. Figurative and literal space are seen as interchangeable. In response to the novel, a house is designed for the mother and daughter characters that provides a physical space for them to both connect and forge their separate identities.

Senses of PlaceCighi, Catalin I 01 January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis puts forth a model for analyzing and understanding the social construction of the concept of place. The Place Deconstruction Model (PDM) consists of a decentered and a centered perspective. The decentered perspective identifies three instances of sense making, at the levels of perception (crude place), meaning making (constructed place), and the building of artifice (commodified place). The centered perspective accounts for the subjectivity of the observer, as determined by memory, expectations, and the experience of the here and now. The method of analysis involves the juxtaposition of spatial (space, place identity, place image), temporal (time, history, heritage), and social (being, self identity, self image) lenses that require adjustment of parameters such as perspective and unit of analysis. The findings derived from the application of this model have both academic and practical applications.

Om meningsfulla val i filmmusikSvensson Sander, Leo January 2023 (has links)

Change in the Meaning of the Word Cool : A study comparing the 1890s, the 1950s and the 2010s / Betydelseförändring i ordet cool : En studie som jämför 1890-talet, 1950-talet och 2010-taletAndersson, Sandra January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to study change in the meaning of the word cool, comparing the 1890s, the 1950s and the 2010s. Examples where the word cool was used were obtained from the Corpus of Historical American English, which is created by Mark Davies, and analyzed in terms of in which senses and text types they were used. The results show that the biggest meaning change in cool between the 1890s and the 2010s is that the most prominent sense in the 1890s is ‘calm’, and ‘slightly cold in a pleasant way’ not far after, and in the 2010s the most prominent sense was ‘pleasant, enjoyable or likable’. The most frequent senses of cool in the 1950s were ‘slightly cold in a pleasant way’, ‘temperature that is too cold’, and ‘calm’ as the most commonly used. The most prominent text type where the word cool occurred was fiction in all three analyzed decades.

Kazuto Goto 19 September 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to realize a scheme to understand language, which is a significant ability for machines to have natural conversation with humans. Concretely speaking, we aim to achieve a system that can show meaning of words (undefined words) which are not registered in the reference language resource. In order to estimate the meaning of undefined words, two capability play an important role; one is recalling a concept from a word, and the other is associating various related concepts from the concept. Therefore, we propose a scheme for estimating the meaning of undefined words by using the association mechanism and evaluate its effectiveness. / 博士(工学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University

The uniform of the Lower Fraser Fishing Authority: case study of a material artifactEccleston, Allison 29 July 2021 (has links)
This thesis uses the uniform of the Stó:lō First Nation’s Lower Fraser Fishing Authority as a cultural, material item to inform and discuss Indigenous-Crown relationships, the history of the community the object belongs to, and the meaning that the object holds for that community. I use the uniform to argue that a single object can hold complex and contradictory meanings that can inform cultural history and relationships. This thesis adds to the historiography of the use of artifacts as an object of study, the history of the Lower Fraser Fishing Authority, and also larger discussions of Indigenous-Crown relationships in Canada. / Graduate
