Judaísmo messiânico no Brasil: a Beit sar shalom: um estudo de caso / Mesyanic judaism in Brazil: Beit Sar Shalom - a case study

Travassos, Deborah Hornblas 02 October 2008 (has links)
The central objective of this dissertation was to show how messianic jews from Beit Sar Shalom synagogue see themselves and how they are seen by the groups outside their ethnicity frontiers, in the present case, how they are seen by Jew leadership secular and religious from São Paulo city. Messianic Judaism is a religion that mixes elements of Christianity, because they believe that the messiah sent by God is Jesus and Judaism because maintaining part of the rituals, festivities and traditions. The results of this analyze should be seen as indicators that the religion was concluded as a kind of paradigmatic syncretic one, in which elements of Christianity and Judaism are carefully selected and applied to the doctrinaire body. The study was developed having as starting point the ethnography of the Beit Sar Shalom, messianic synagogue, located in São Paulo in the borough Higienópolis. Ritualistic aspects of this religion were analyzed as were identity aspects such as initiation and passage rituals, comparing them with traditional jewish rites.

Messianisme, mysticisme et monothéisme : le RSI dans les œuvres de Tom Robbins / Messianism, Mysticism and Monotheism : RSI in Tom Robbins' works

Buckwalter, Elvis 05 May 2009 (has links)
In the context of an American society where the importance of religion takes on epic proportions, a Lacanian approach to analyzing Tom Robbins’ novels is particularly useful in the identification of his works’ major themes: messianism, mysticism and monotheism. Not only do these particular religious events play a central role in his fiction, but they also serve to put psychoanalytic tools to use, such tools as the Symbolic, the Imaginary and the Real developed by Jacques Lacan. How can RSI define the religious debate in the works of Tom Robbins? This multidisciplinary study addresses this problem by focusing on three main areas. First of all, American society’s infatuation with messianism has given rise to a literary phenomenon that I have termed « the messianic subject », characterized by its topological anchorage in the Symbolic order. Moreover, the prevalence of mystical approaches to spirituality in Robbins’ novels – expressed by a mystical relationship between a divine being on the one hand, and believers on the other – constitute a symbiotic relationship present in Lacan’s Imaginary order. Finally, the realm of the Lacanian Real highlights the impossibility of reconciliation between these two structural instances by exploring the theme of monotheism in the works of Tom Robbins. This dissertation aims not only to make a little-known American writer known to Francophone audiences, but also to better define the relationship between religion and psychoanalysis in the novels of Tom Robbins

Tim, Landfeldt January 2014 (has links)
The present essay concerns Walter Benjamin’s thought regarding history and temporality as he articulated it in his last work that was only published posthumously: ”Über den Begriff der Geschichte”. The purpose is to analyze Benjamin’s construction of historical materialism and to suggest a reading of it as directed towards an opening of history. For Walter Benjamin, every moment presents itself as a possibility of radical otherness: a possibility for things to be different. In this essay, I therefore want to concentrate on key concepts constituting such possibility, namely, remembrance [Eingedenken] and redemption [Erlösung]. I will further examine their relation to the specific experience of the past. Following Benjamin, in this essay I am constructing a critique of positivist concepts of linear time and Marxist teleology in regard to history and temporality. Another purpose is to establish an alternative concept of history and temporality as it is to be found in Benjamin’s own thought. Furthermore, the essay seeks to engage in a dialog with Benjamin’s historical reflection in an attempt of capturing the Benjaminian concepts of dialectical image and now-time [Jetztzeit] and by doing this to envisage a genuine break from the notion of historical progress. In presenting such a break as a possibility of opening up history, I seek to raise the question of political action [Aktion]. As demonstrated in the essay, the notion of action, its ethics and politics, is to be found, both implicitly and explicitly, in the way Benjamin develops the persona of the historical materialist and in his concept of redemption, but the analysis must start with a thorough investigation of the concept of remembrance [Eingedenken], without which Benjamin’s meaning cannot be understood.

Addition to merging elements of popular Catholicism and spiritism Kardecist of mesa branca , the movement traces a new religious proposal, 'bricolada', in which the prophecy of a new world free of oppression and social inequality emerged with the advent of a universal flood, scheduled for May 13, 1980. We present the movement from its origins until the present, exhibiting a report of its foundation, period of apogee, gradual cooling after the non-event of the flood, and also, evaluated the actual configuration of the movement. Catholic and spiritualist influences that configured the movement and its leaders are analyzed with the main focus on the founder and leader, Roldão Mangueira de Figueiredo and his principal assistants who have been part from the administrative setting. The succession of leadership by Antonio de França, Helena Diniz, Maria Tereza and the active presence of Luciene Diniz, bringing fundamental prophecies for mediatic projection and numerical growth of the group. We interviewed descendants of the founder of the movement and remnants persons who attended in the past, the Casa de Caridade Jesus no Horto in search of spiritual answers. We employ theorists like: Maria Isaura de Queiroz, Max Weber, Peter Berger, Emile Durkheim, Mircea Eliade, Rudolf Otto, Joseph Campbell, well as researches of Lysias Nogueira Negrão, Moacir Carneiro and Lidiane Araújo. Furthermore, we had access to files of local newspapers and letters written by leaders who are used as a basis for the analysis of movement and its leader board.
