Creative Matrix

McGinn, Bonnie Gay 01 January 2007 (has links)
My personal life experiences are reflected in my art. I use symbolic and expressive marks in developing my abstract imagery, which acts as a visual language. The combining of my past and current art work, fused together, has become what I call a creative matrix. I see my images as choreographed compositions using a mixed media approach. The open-ended interpretation of my art have expanded the never ending possibilities of creation.

Junto às minhas re?exões sobre momentos de transformação no meu trabalho apresento algumas imagens que foram signi?cativas neste processo / Abstract: ¿Ephemeral impressions¿ is a re?ection about the process of poetical construction of series of monotypes made between 2004 e 2007. The motivation for the realization of these series reveals different faces along this research, however the investigation about some recurrent aspects related to the use of gestures in my graphical expression permeates this whole process. Issues about the printing process of monotypes as a means to register ephemeral impressions in time and space are exposed in this research. I speak of aspects of the oeuvre of some artists who led me to re?ect on my own work. Along with my re?ections on moments of transformation in my own work I present some images which were meaningful in this process / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

Retratos, memoria e identidade : uma aproximação entre a monotipia e a fotografia / Portraits, memory and identity : a rapproachement between monotypes and photography

Abstract: Portraits, Memory and Identity, a rapprochement between monotypes and photography - is a story of the poetic journey of building on issues related to memory and identity, focusing the monotypes and then the picture. Are experiences, thoughts and inferences about the artistic production with mixed, as collagraph and print on acetate, developed at the Research Center in Engraving of Unicamp. As we face the issue of inference of the look, the ownership of the portrait photographs of family, memory as a trigger of sensations and memories of the past, and the search for an identity/difference that needs to be represented. A search of monotypes, like language adopted, it follows the technique of printing on acetate and the results of these experiments, as the forms obtained are related directly to the content, the breakdown of support for the paper clay and its implications on the content and shape.

This research, Impressions of the Light, has its focus in the construction of artistic objects, made in relation to the matter and light: how can we elaborate an illuminated book-object? This paper was born from that conflict that also involves observation, perception, emotion and the presentation itself. How can we express the limitless in a reclusive space of the project? We have come to the conclusion that some forms and colors that composed the sunset always appeared more intensely in our memory and for that reason we began to investigate it. The understanding of the artistic production of the book-object and the interventions in space through its installation, emphasized the concepts of the light, color, form in the space of the composition of the Visual Arts and also had as a result the investigation and the search of a visual poetic / Doutorado / Artes Visuais / Doutor em Artes

CORRELATIONS

Toy, Randy Scott 01 January 2006 (has links)
I explore visual and process-based systems to solidify the allusive nature of conceptual ideas. Impermanence, time and interdependence are reoccurring themes that stem from an interest in Eastern philosophy. Oscillating from representation to abstract minimalism, printmaking to sculpture, each element in a work is tailored to the concept. The minimalist appearance suggests simplicity, however elaborate planning and systematic execution are at the heart of my practice. Systems create great constraint, yet provide great freedom.

The pastel medium communicating sexuality and promiscuity in late nineteenth-century Paris

Benartzy, Adee S. 01 May 2012 (has links)
Throughout the history of art, the pastel medium has been considered a medium of secondary interest. Despite its pulsating textures, vibrant colors, and unique receptivity to touch, this medium has been recognized above all for its swiftness in stroke and subsequent ability of the artist to record images of fleeting moments and ideas almost instantaneously. The focus on the advantageous rapidity of the pastel, however, hindered the pastel medium's potential as a mere preliminary technique to working with grander mediums, such as oil paint, thus failing to recognize the prominence of pastel in capturing character. This research endeavor focuses on a very specific era with comparably high usage of pastel-- late nineteenth-century Paris--and the distinctive characteristic that defines said era--the hyper-sexuality of the Parisian prostitute. The eminent presence of prostitution and the consequential iconography of female sexuality in late nineteenth-century Paris defined the world of French Bohemia and seeped into the artistic exchange of the era. Although holding a traditionally subsidiary position to other historically primary mediums, the pastel medium prevailed in communicating the sexuality, sensuality, and promiscuity of the sinful female in Paris at the close of the century. The pastel works of prominent artists in the nightlife milieu such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Edgar Degas which revolve around the theme of prostitution serve as key illustrations of the distinctive ability of the ephemeral medium to capture the mood and personality--and therefore the sensual quintessence--of its subject. Through contextual and visual analysis, this research endeavor thus ultimately aims to lift the traditionally secondary pastel medium to one of impressive proportions, emphasizing its unique advantages and raising its overall credence.
