Design motocyklu s Wankelovým motorem / Design of Wankel engine motorcycle

Švehla, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with the design of motorcycle powered by Wankel engine. The motorbike is used in normal road traffic. The work solves the use of unconventional drive unit in combination with modern chassis solution. The aim is a complex koncept of motorbike using modern technology, which takes into account appropriate categorization of this bike and ergonomic requirements. It would be a significant non-traditional bike demonstrating the new possibilities.

NEW ROADS TAKEN BY FEW : Motorcycle-taxi drivers and neoliberal development in rural Uganda

Öbom, Alexander January 2019 (has links)
Kisoro, a rural district in Uganda, is undergoing various transformations which could be summarized under the term neoliberal development. This qualitative study, which is based on six weeks of anthropological fieldwork, is focused on how a few individuals working as motorcycle-taxi drivers in the area experience these transformations, and how they deal with them. The results indicate that while they tend to describe them as “development”, they see them as constituting an uneven form of development - not beneficial to all, something which, in their view, makes this development less genuine. It is commonly associated with various “others”; carried out by and for others, while the informants have to live off the leftovers from it, were the motorcycle-taxi job is seen as such a leftover; neither enabling much upward - nor geographical - mobility. In some cases, they feel included in transformations which makes things worse, so it all constitutes not only a limited, but a somehow distorted development, and there is nostalgia around better pasts. But simultaneously, many also feel free, and as their hopes for inclusion in a genuine development erodes while they wait for it, inspiration from an external world makes them strive for a more individualized prosperity.

Motorcycle Cornering Improvement : An Aerodynamical Approach based on Flow Interference

Sedlak, Vojtech January 2012 (has links)
A new aerodynamic device, based on flow interference effects, is studied in order to significantly improve the cornering performance of racing motorcycles in MotoGP. After a brief overview on why standard downforce devices cannot be used on motorcycles, the new idea is introduced and a simplified mechanic analysis is provided to prove its effectiveness. The concept is based on the use of anhedral wings placed on the front fairing, with the rider acting as an interference device, aiming to reduce the lift generation of one wing. Numerical calculations, based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, are performed on simplified static 2D and 3D cases, as a proof of concept of the idea and as a preparation for further analysis which may involve experimental wind-tunnel testing. The obtained results show that the flow interference has indeed a significant impact on the lift on a single wing. For some cases the lift can be reduced by 70% to over 90% - which strengthens the possibility of a realistic implementation.

Additive Manufacturing Applications for Suspension Systems : Part selection, concept development, and design

Waagaard, Morgan, Persson, Johan January 2020 (has links)
This project was conducted as a case study at Öhlins Racing AB, a manufacturer of suspension systems for automotive applications. Öhlins usually manufacture their components by traditional methods such as forging, casting, and machining. The project aimed to investigate how applicable Additive Manufacturing (AM) is to manufacture products for suspension systems to add value to suspension system components. For this, a proof of concept was designed and manufactured. The thesis was conducted at Öhlins in Upplands Väsby via the consultant firm Combitech.  A product catalog was searched, screened, and one part was selected. The selected part was used as a benchmark when a new part was designed for AM, using methods including Topology Optimization (TO) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Product requirements for the chosen part were to reduce weight, add functions, or add value in other ways.  Methods used throughout the project were based on traditional product development and DfAM, and consisted of three steps: Product Screening, Concept Development, and Part Design. The re-designed part is ready to be manufactured in titanium by L-PBF at Amexci in Karlskoga.  The thesis result shows that at least one of Öhlin's components in their product portfolio is suitable to be chosen, re-designed, and manufactured by AM. It is also shown that value can be added to the product by increased performance, in this case mainly by weight reduction. The finished product is a fork bottom, designed with hollow structures, and is ready to print by L-PBF in a titanium alloy.
