The main purpose of the diploma project is to redesign an object of the Brno Grand Prix areal. The design case study is a second step after an urban project analyses created in the pre - diploma project phase. The main aim of the diploma design studio is to produce a new impulse in the whole nearby area of the Brno Grand Prix by finding a new purpose for the city's iconic areal and creating a decent and representative place for exhibition of the extensive history of Czechoslovak Motor sport.

Analys och utveckling av drivsystemoberoende energiåtervinning

Limitations in energy recovery technology require extended research for development of existing and alternative solutions. This thesis project has treated valuing pneumatic drivetrain independent energy recovery system as a potential solution. The prototype built during this project uses a piston compressor to transform kinetic energy into compressed air. The compressed air was then stored in two air tanks and transformed into kinetic energy with an air motor on demand. The prototype was built on a rig using a high power electrical engine to simulate energy input from the wheels during braking. The air motor was then used to rotate a Volvo S40 engine simulating energy output to the wheels. To further illustrate how the technology can be implemented in vehicles and to emphasize the variety of pneumatic energy recovery solutions a 3D CAD model was designed and other components was reflected. Such as using a screw compressor instead of piston and also using the compressor as a motor reducing the number of components optimizing the system. The system storing the kinetic energy does not mean that the vehicle can manage without an ordinary brake system. The regenerative braking effect rapidly reduces at lower speeds; therefore friction brake is still required in order to bring the vehicle to a complete halt.Analyses of strength of strained components acknowledge that limited energy recovery is possible without redimensioning the driveshaft´s. The limitation is regulated by the original dimension for engine load, with subject to the CV joint. Optimum positioning of the compressor due to the limited space in a modern vehicle is behind the gearbox in conjunction with the gearbox outgoing pinion for short energy transportation.Electrical energy recovery system is the solution with the highest potential on the market today but electrical vehicles covers just a fraction of the vehicle industry doe to technical and infrastructural limitations. Drivetrain independent pneumatic, hydraulic or mechanical energy recovery systems lay the foundation of a common ground for all vehicles and other waste energy machinery to use one energy recovery technology. The main task of this thesis was to create an architectural study of The Gallery of Brno Grand Prix based on previous urban study from previous semester works. The proposal is focused on the iconic circuit’s former glory restoration, on providing new content for raceway complex and creating decent and presentable place for the presentation of the rich history of Czech and Czechoslovak motorsport. The result is a study of an object that meets these needs while respecting the historical and morphological values of the place. The building creates new themed attraction and creates the potential for further development of near circuit.

Additive Manufacturing Applications for Suspension Systems : Part selection, concept development, and design

This project was conducted as a case study at Öhlins Racing AB, a manufacturer of suspension systems for automotive applications. Öhlins usually manufacture their components by traditional methods such as forging, casting, and machining. The project aimed to investigate how applicable Additive Manufacturing (AM) is to manufacture products for suspension systems to add value to suspension system components. For this, a proof of concept was designed and manufactured. The thesis was conducted at Öhlins in Upplands Väsby via the consultant firm Combitech.  A product catalog was searched, screened, and one part was selected. The selected part was used as a benchmark when a new part was designed for AM, using methods including Topology Optimization (TO) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Product requirements for the chosen part were to reduce weight, add functions, or add value in other ways.  Methods used throughout the project were based on traditional product development and DfAM, and consisted of three steps: Product Screening, Concept Development, and Part Design. The re-designed part is ready to be manufactured in titanium by L-PBF at Amexci in Karlskoga.  The thesis result shows that at least one of Öhlin's components in their product portfolio is suitable to be chosen, re-designed, and manufactured by AM. It is also shown that value can be added to the product by increased performance, in this case mainly by weight reduction. The finished product is a fork bottom, designed with hollow structures, and is ready to print by L-PBF in a titanium alloy.
