This thesis deals with popular paraphrases of classical Japanese literature in the Edo period (1600- 1868). It analyses creative rewritings of a famous Heian tale Genji monogatari by popular authors of the Edo period, primarily Nise Murasaki inaka Genji by Ryūtei Tanehiko (1783-1842), which is one of the most successful works of Japanese early modern literature. The aim of this thesis is, utilizing elements of narrative analysis, to identify and interpret creative strategies applied by Tanehiko and his predecessors (Kogame Masuhide, Miyako no Nishiki and Okumura Masanobu) in works based on Genji monogatari and to find out what the relation was between their works and their Heian model, and if and to what extent Tanehiko's work was a unique occurrence between popular paraphrases of classical Japanese literature.

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue. Grouping of most commonly used features can be used as a basis for the construction of literary characters red library and sentimental novels. Contribution of the work...

This diploma thesis thematically follows up one of subgenres of young adult popular literature - paranormal romance. Its main aim is to create a comprehensive definition of this subgenre on the basis of interpretation of representative sagas - Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn), Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush, Crescendo, Silence, Finale), Nightshade by Andrea R. Cremer (Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose, Snakeroot), Wings by Aprilynne Pike (Wings, Spells, Illusions, Destined) and Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood, Girl of Nightmares). The thesis was divided into eight chapters. In the first chapter we have outlined the historical development of paranormal romance, in the second part we focused on its genre characteristic. In the third and fourth chapters we tried to create a prototype of heroine and hero of this subgenre. The fifth part is about the steady plot schemes in paranormal romances. The thesis deals with the use of classical and contemporary literature for the development of reading literacy at primary schools. We focused mainly on the research of popular literature of third to fifth grade primary pupils. We also investigated what extra-curricular reading materials teachers choose to develop their pupils' reading literacy and how they work with them. In the theoretical part, we present a brief insight into the issue of reading literacy, current research results, methods, strategies and factors influencing reading literacy. In the research part, we present the results of a questionnaire survey of pupils' parents, where the main attention was paid to the preferences of titles, authors and genres of their children. In the practical part, we followed up on the results of these surveys and designed worksheets with activities aimed at promoting reading comprehension and developing reading strategies. We focused mainly on their motivational and entertaining character. Worksheets with activities were verified in selected classes of primary schools and supplemented by rich reflection from practice.

Weibliche Lesekultur als Spiegel der sozialen und kulturellen Entwicklung in Spanien im 19. Jahrhundert

Das 19. Jahrhundert wird in den westlichen Ländern Zeuge tiefer Veränderungen auf dem Bereich des Buchdruckes, der dank der Fortentwicklung der Technik ihre handwerklichen Herstellungsverfahren in eine industrialisierte Produktion umwandelt. Es erlebt den Ausbruch und die Entfaltung des Pressewesens und die rasante Steigerung der Konsumentenzahl von Druckerzeugnissen. Diese Entwicklung, die als Revolution – die zweite Revolution des Buchdruckes – bezeichnet wird, resultiert aus den parallel laufenden soziokulturellen Veränderungen – wie die Demokratisierung der Bildung –, die sich schon im 18. Jahrhundert ihren Weg anbahnten und die sich kraft des Vorantreibens und der Verbreitung einer schriftlichen Kultur fortwährend entwickeln konnten. Die Etablierung liberalen Gedankengutes treiben auch in Spanien eine neue Konzeption des Individuums voran, das Bildung, Information, öffentliche Meinungsäußerung, die eine schriftliche, gedruckte Kommunikationsform implizieren, als seine elementaren Rechte betrachtet. Infolge dieses Hergangs wird der Leserkreis stetig größer und differenzierter; nicht nur neue gesellschaftliche Schichten erringen für sich den Zugang zur Schrift, sondern auch die geschlechtsspezifischen, aus der traditionellen, patriarchalischen, spanischen Mentalität resultierenden Defizite hinsichtlich der Bildung der Frau nehmen, ihren Eintritt in die Lesergemeinschaft ebnend, konstant ab. Die Wandlung der Frau zur Teilhaberin und sogar zur Mitgestalterin der schriftlichen Kultur in Spanien erfolgt abhängig von den historischen und politischen Gegebenheiten und nicht konstant und in gleichem Maße im ganzen Land. Der schwierige Weg zur Bildung, der Einfluss der katholischen Kirche, die sozialen Unterschiede, sind entscheidende Faktoren für die Geschwindigkeit, mit der sich diese Veränderung vollzieht. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist eine geschichtliche Veranschaulichung der Entstehung und Konsolidierung einer weiblichen Leserschaft und der begleitenden Umstände auf den Bereichen des Buch-, Bibliotheks-, und Bildungswesens. / In the course of the 19th century deep changes take place in the world of printing, mostly due to the improvements of the techniques and the industrialisation of the production. But this revolutionary development, known as the second revolution of the printing, results itself from the cultural, political and social transformations which happen contemporaneously. The advance of liberal ideologies with their new conception of the individual, who regards education, information and freedom of speech - which imply a written, a printed communication form - as his elementary rights, strengthens the spreading of a written culture, so that many countries experience a rapid increase of the number of consumers of printed products. These innovations will also reach Spain and deeply influence its society and culture. The alphabetised population increases, the number of readers becomes constantly larger and the readership more differentiated. New social groups achieve the right of education and become in this way potential readers, the women being the most important of them. The traditional, patriarchal, catholic Spanish mentality changes slowly allowing them to be alphabetised and educated. Women begin in the 19th century to take actively part on the cultural live of the country and not only as readers but also as authors. This transformation does not take place continually and in the same measure all along the country, due to the influence of the historical and political conditions. The difficult way to education, the power of the Catholic Church and the social differences become for instance crucial factors which define the rapidity and the significance of the development. This thesis presents the process of the emergence and consolidation of a female readership during the 19th century, illustrated with a description of the evolution on the ranges of the book production, of the library and education system and many examples of reading materials and publications for and of women.

Genre and the representation of violence in American Civil War texts by Edmund Wright, John William De Forest, and Henry James

This dissertation investigates the relationship between genre and the representation of war-time violence in five texts written during and shortly after the United States Civil War (1861-1865). The texts are The Narrative of Edmund Wright (1864), John William De Forests Miss Ravenels Conversion from Secession to Loyalty (1867), and three short stories by Henry JamesThe Story of a Year (1865), Poor Richard (1867), and A Most Extraordinary Case (1868). These texts deal with the theme of war violence through generic mechanisms associated with the spectrum of writings often dichotomized as romance and realism. The main theoretical approach to genre depends on a distinction between criterial theories of genre and contingency theories of genre. Criterial theories emphasize the shared characteristics of literary texts: that is, criterial theories of genre are classificatory in orientation. Contingency theories emphasize the ways in which social forces influence the act of classification: contingency theories of genre, in other words, concentrate on the notion that genres are social constructs. This dissertation maintains, in line with contingency theory, that genre is affected by the social, political and cultural circumstances of the period in which the genre operates; as a result, this dissertation uses documents from and about the American Civil War to substantiate its claims. The work of Alice Fahs, David Reynolds, and John Frow has influenced the approach to genre theory and to nineteenth-century American literary history. / English

Aspecto lírico-religioso das canções marianas: um estudo sobre as metáforas e metonímias que representam Maria

Este trabalho analisa o aspecto lírico-religioso de três canções marianas, recolhidas do Cancioneiro Popular do imigrante italiano na Região de Colonização Italiana e se propõe revelar, sob o aspecto das metáforas e das metonímias, a representação de Maria. Para tanto, este estudo dialoga com temas imprescindíveis para a obtenção de resultados, como História, Cultura, Identidade, Regionalidade, Mariologia, Metáforas, Metonímias (a Teoria de Metáforas Conceituais) e música. Assim sendo, a dissertação está estruturada sobre quatro capítulos que norteiam a análise e a interpretação. A saber: o Primeiro Capítulo entrelaça a História e a Cultura, procurando fazer uma revisão de aspectos relevantes da história da imigração italiana na RCI na Região Nordeste do Estado, focando a importância da religião e ou da fé desde os primórdios desse processo. A partir disso, há a análise sobre Região, Identidade e Religiosidade. O Segundo Capítulo destaca o Cancioneiro Popular e assim, o aspecto da Tradição Oral Popular. Aprofunda o aspecto da cultura popular expressada com o canto e traz em evidência a caracterização do Canto Mariano (origens, ritualismo e devoção do imigrante italiano). Demonstra, ainda, aspectos da devoção mariana, tão presente e viva junto ao imigrante, pois Maria é descrita como sendo a mãe que está sempre presente e junto aos seus filhos (povo). O Terceiro Capítulo, por sua vez, concentra a análise dos aspectos da Teoria da Metáfora Conceitual, da Simbologia e, também, da interpretação e pesquisa sobre as Virtudes, objetivando a análise da figura da mulher idealizada , ou ainda, da representação da mãe - Maria (Madonna). Por fim, no Quarto Capítulo, tem-se a Metodologia e a Análise das canções marianas, ou seja, a análise do corpus das canções: Beléssa di Maria; Maria Consolatrice; O Bèla mia Speransa, que motivam este estudo. Esta parte segue o método da análise semântica com base em George Lakoff (e colaboradores) que permeiam o estudo das metáforas conceituais. Há, também, a posição etnográfica, onde é destacada a pesquisa de campo realizada para conhecer opiniões e perspectivas do povo, indo além da análise do pesquisador. This dissertation is structured upon four chapters as follows: the first chapter links History and Culture, trying to revise some relevant points of the history of the Italian immigration on the RCI in the Northeast Region of our state, focusing on the importance of religion and/or faith since the beginning of that process. Therefore, there is the analysis about the Region, Identity and Religiosity. The second chapter highlights the Cancioneiro Popular and then, the Popular Oral Tradition. Also, it deepens the aspect of popular culture expressed by the songs and brings into evidence the characterization of the Marian Songs (origins, ritualism and devotion of the Italian immigrant). Moreover, it shows some aspects of the Marian devotion, so present and alive within the immigrant, because Mary is described as the mother who is always with her children (the people). The third chapter, in turn, focus on the analysis of aspects of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory , of the Symbolism, and also of the interpretation and research regarding the Virtues, aiming at analyzing the idealized woman´s portrait , or still, the representation of the mother Mary (Madonna). At last, presented in the fourth chapter are the Methodology and the Analysis of the Marian Songs, that is, the analysis of the corpus of songs: Beléssa di Mary, Mary Consolatrice and O Bela mia Speransa that motivate the study. This part follows the method of semantic analysis, based on George Lakoff (and collaborators) that permeates the study of the conceptual metaphors. There is the ethnographic position as well, where is emphasized the field work carried out to know opinions and perspectives of the people, going beyond the researcher´s analysis. After that, the synthesis is done with the obtained results by the research/study.
