Ilton Antonio da Silva 18 July 2013 (has links)
The research is bibliographic; it investigates the Holy Scriptures, secular literature and seeks to leave a guideline with a psychological and Christian foundation about the relationship of parents and children in the initial years of the human being. It highlights the importance of the human development and the value of knowledge of this formative process, since this cooperates with the appropriate formation of the child. It describes the necessary responsibility beginning with the intrauterine existence, since the life of the human being begins at the moment that the originating germinal cells of the parents meet. It deals with the development of the personality which develops beginning with the birth and the importance of the adequate posturing of the parents anchored in the good witness. It highlights that the knowledge of the factors which permeate the existence of the child will help in the formation of the children within affectionate and effective relations. It mentions biblical principles and concepts which guide the relation in the formative years of the child, pointing out the home as an institution of high relevance in the constitution of the human being. It says that in the Christian context, the faith begins in the home, where the instruction and witness of the parents implant the divine precepts in the children so that God is present in the daily experiences. It emphasizes love as the integrating path for the construction of healthy and effective relationships, highlighting it as the uncommon conjuncture in which life fulfills its designs, being the base of solid relations, especially the dimension of unconditional love. It means that asking forgiveness and forgiving are fundamental attitudes which nourish the interaction. It explains discipline in the contexture of teaching the child the appropriate path, however it warns that the child will only respond positively if it feels truly loved and accepted. It specifies that within these characteristics the love will be adequate and will work as an integrating effective path in the relationship with the children.

Botha, Janine 30 November 2007 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / The focus of this qualitative study is the way teachers experience parental involvement in the learning process of mentally disabled children. Five participants, teaching at a school for disabled children for more than ten years and working with children between the ages of six and 18, participated in this study. Individual, unstructured interviews were conducted with the participants to describe how they experience parental involvement in the learning process of mentally disabled children. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. Nine recurring themes were identified in the transcriptions and compared with current literature. The aim of the study was not to generalize the findings, as it was a qualitative study and the participants were given the opportunity to share their experience. The result of this study is a detailed description of how teachers experience parental involvement in the learning process of mentally disabled children. / Social Work / M.Diac

This research was carried out to identify parents expectations related to the most important factors of their children s development, to analyze how children react in face of such expectations, and to define children s characteristics when they are subjected to an overload of activities off the premises of school. The sample includes both parents and children enrolled in private grade schools, from 1st to 4th grade, who participated in the research as volunteers. Ten children of both genders were picked up, their age varying from 6 (six) to 10 (ten). The male-parents age varied from 37 to 48, the mothers age from 32 to 53. Most of the parents had graduated from colleges. The parents were subjected to an interview comprising 24 (twenty-four) items, out of which 8 (eight) were subitems comprising, on the whole, 32 questions. After such an interview, those parents were asked to draw something about their children s future. The interviews held with the children comprised 8 (eight) questions. At the end of it, they were also asked to draw something about their favorite play and future. By categorizing the answers, 3 (three) topics and 11 (eleven) subtopics were established as follows: Past: admission into school, adaptation to it and achieving literacy. Present: school achievement, subject-matters (the ones they like best, the ones they dislike), activities off the premises of school and their own initiative to pick them up, appealing and non-valued features, leisure time: playing with the children and caring for their health. Future: attainable future fulfillment. The analysis of their answers was divided into topics, seeing that the theoretical foundation was based on Reichian and neo-Reichian presuppositions. One also took into consideration some theoretical foundations based on psychoanalytical authors...(Complete abstract, access undermentioned electronic address)

Silva, Cristina Martins Cunha da 28 February 2011 (has links)
This thesis is the product of our concerns about the significant repercussions caused by parental alienation, mainly the irreversible severing of the affective bond. The researcher recognizes that parental alienation is a social product that commonly is a part of the family dynamics occurring when couples separate. Mothers and fathers dissatisfied by the separation, use their minor children as an instrument to attack their ex husband‟s or wives‟ without considering that children are legally dependent and still developing. It was verified that this alienating practice is an interdisciplinary theme of legal interest (given that it emerges within the legal system and translates into a conflict of interests requiring state intervention) and therefore developing into a psychological conflict. Thus, from an interdisciplinary perspective the researcher seeks to understand the phenomena based on the experience and the work of judiciary psychologists who focus in the legal system (family court). The sample was derived from reports provided by these professionals and subsequently a transversal and qualitative study was conducted based on relevant literature. Testimonials from people who experienced the alienating process were also used, allowing us to observe the anxiety and suffering triggered by parental alienation. Throughout the study the researcher listed determining characteristics (such as unprocessed mourning), as well as, problems encountered by people involved in the context (for example, legal morosity). It should be noted that our analysis focused primarily on the child as a person whose personality is still developing. This fact pressures parents to accept responsibly their parental role in order to promote healthy emotional development of their children. Thus, throughout the study the researcher highlighted the need for parents to be mature, in order to distinguish between conjugal and parental responsibility, given that parental alienation has as a factor the need to differentiate between these two obligations. The researcher observed that the family dynamics carries with it peculiar characteristics requiring joint intervention of legal and psychological professional possessing special abilities in family mediation. In addition to jurisprudence that clearly states the role of the state psychotherapy is mentioned and family mediation are considered possible alternatives to assist in dealing with and promoting effective and operative restoration of social peace. The researcher also suggest that the afore mentioned professionals work with parents stressing the need to distinguish between parental and conjugal responsibility and that parents clearly understand that a child needs to live with both a father and a mother ( each one occupying effectively their parental function thus contributing to the full development of the child). Finally, the research suggests that only joint interdisciplinary cooperation of the professionals involved in an understanding that is broader than judicial norms is it possible to face and inhibit in a coherent and effective manner the existing alienating practice.

The family as a context of moral development for children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Ana Paula Amaral 28 June 2017 (has links)
Para as participantes, ser boa mãe está relacionado ao cuidado e o sacrifício pelos filhos / Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobiological disorder that is widely studied and which affects the school-age children. However, research relating the family context of these children and adolescents with morality is scarce. This study aimed to map the family context of this public with regard to moral educational conceptions, the legitimacy of parental authority and the self-representations of these mothers. METHODS: 17 mothers and 5 grandmothers (legal guardians) of children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD attended by a specialized philanthropic institution located in the city of São João da Boa Vista, in the state of São Paulo, participated in the study. For the data collection, the instruments used were: Moral Educational Conceptions Scale - ECEM, Questionnaire of legitimacy of parental authority and Self-representations of mothers of children and adolescents with ADHD. RESULTS: The results pointed to mothers who prioritize unilateral respect, retributive justice with the use of expiatory sanctions, the desire for obedience and low autonomy. In addition, mothers legitimize parental authority in all domains, with rules of personal dominance less legitimized than the others. The use of physical punishments is very present in the discourse of these mothers. The self-representations as a person of these mothers are focused on motherhood as a central value and a positive image at themselves. As mothers, these women have positive and positive moral self-representations with an emphasis on care. Most mothers perceive differences between educating children with ADHD and without the disorder. They also present positive self-representations when questioned about how the child, family members, teachers, and health professionals who treat the child with ADHD see them as mothers. Regarding the presentations of ADHD, we can highlight that the mothers of children with predominantly hyperactive / impulsive presentation present the lowest mean for the autonomy construct and the highest averages for the obedience construct and the rules of personal dominance. Mothers of children with predominantly inattentive presentation use more rules and have greater legitimacy of parental authority, except when it comes to rules of personal domain. Mothers of children with a combined presentation have the lowest averages in all domains, which points to a lower legitimacy of parental authority and lower expectation of obedience. CONCLUSION: The family context of this sample does not favor moral development. Participants in this study desire obedient children and use expiatory sanctions to ensure obedience. For the participants, being a good mother is related to the care and sacrifice for the children

Van der Merwe, John 15 April 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Educational Leadership) / The purpose of this study was: A. To discuss the term slow learner and to identify certain problems experienced by the slow learner. B. To identify specific problems experienced by the parents of the slow learner. C. To design a parent guidance programme for the head of the guidance department to aid Afrikaans speaking parents of the slow learner to accept their child and to try and solve the problems that their child experiences. D. To evaluate the effectiveness of the parent guidance programme. In evaluating the effectiveness of the parent guidance programme, the specific aims of the study were: - To ascertain what kind of parenting style the parents were using. - To teach the parents the advantage of the democratic parenting style. - To ascertain how the selfimages of the parents have improved in attending the programme. - To design guidelines for the parents how to cope with problems existing in the relationship between parent and child such as: * how to cope with conflict, * how to communicate effectively, * how to motivate the slow learner to become a successful student, * how to improve the selfconcept of the slow learner, and * how to cope with discipline. The Head of the Guidance department has a very important role to play in the establishing of such a parent guidance programme. This can be accomplished by keeping track of the needs of the parents and to update all the information regarding the slow learner. The ultimate goal will still be to create a positive working relationship between parent and teacher, to accommodate the needs of the slow learner and to cooperate in making the slow learner a successful student and eventually a successful adult.

The attitude of the Tsonga community towards the cerebral palsied and the orthopaedically handicapped child

Baloyi, Busisiwe Helen 11 February 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. / Chapter One constitutes the heart of this study which entails the statement of the problem, prevailing attitudes and beliefs in the Tsonga community, attitudes and feelings of parents whose children are handicapped. This chapter also gives the aim, delimitation, method and plan of the study. Chapter Two elucidates what cerebral palsy and orthopaedic handicap are. It is a thought provoking and interesting chapter since it gives definitions, occurrence and causes of cerebral palsy and orthopaedic handicaps. Types of cerebral palsy such as spasticity, athetosis, rigidity, tremor and mixed type are clearly indicated. This also applies to orthopaedic handicap, where handicapism like poliomyelitis, dwarfism, tuberculosis of the spine, amputation of a limb or limbs, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, scoliosis, osteogenesis, rachitis, kwashiorkor and congenital deformities are discussed in detail. Cerebral palsy and orthopaedic handicap occur during four different stages, i. e. pre-natal, para-natal,neo-natal and post-natal stages . Chapter Three gives the traditional attitudes of the Tsonga communi ty towards cerebral palsied and orthopaedically handicapped children. The chapter first elucidates terms which also constitute the heart of this dissertation. It highlights the treatment of handicapped children by the ancient Greeks, Romans, Hebrews, and also the Sothos, Zulus and Tsongas...
