Manager Tools Podcast: A Study of Podcasting's Effectiveness with Profit Potential

Beal, Quincy Frodesen 04 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis seeks to understand further the effectiveness and profit potential of podcasting. The study combines the theories of uses and gratifications and subjective theory of value to create a model for podcasting's value. The model is put to the test using the Manager Tools podcast as the subject. Data suggest the three main drivers behind perceived podcast effectiveness are pleasure, habit, and information gathering. Relaxation proved to have a negative influence on perceived effectiveness. The audience's willingness to pay was determined by perceived effectiveness, scarcity, and habit. Though not a generalizable study, the conclusion discusses the findings' implications on the podcasting community.

Attityd till annonser i podcast : En komparativ undersökning av konsumenters attityd till annonsering i podcast

Johannesson, Isabella, Neem Laahanen, William January 2018 (has links)
Podcast is an audio medium that has recently evolved at a rapid pace and is a phenomenon that attracts new listeners every day. Because of this, it becomes interesting for companies to advertise in the forum. The two most common ways to advertise in the medium are traditional advertising, that can also be heard on radio, and native advertising, also known as sponsorship. The study is investigating how the consumers view these two types of advertising by reviewing their attitude, credibility and clarity for a variety of ads. To test this, a questionnaire was formulated and interviews were held with a test group from the target group 18-35 years. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that native advertising is the most suitable form of advertising in podcast and that both types of advertising had high credibility and high clarity. Thus, it’s native advertising that advertisers should use to ensure that consumers have as positive attitude as possible for the company and the ad.

Kvinnliga mordoffer i Rysarpodden : En kritisk diskursanalys av Rysarpoddens konstruktion av kvinnliga mordoffer / Female murdervictims in Rysarpodden : A critical discourse analysis of the depiction of female murder victims in the true crime podcast Rysarpodden

Sarpaneva, Minna, Isaksson Gyllenfjell, Thindra January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to identify what discourses about female victims are constructed in the true-crime podcast Rysarpodden. Rysarpodden retells international cases to a Swedish audience, with a Swedish script on Swedish platforms.  The study has utilized critical discourse analysis and the result showed three different types of discourses; The blameless victim (det klanderfria offret) - portrayed mostly with positive attributes with a caring and outgoing personality- the anonymous victim (det anonyma offret)- lacking personal descriptions and often portrayed as a woman of “low social status” opening up for speculations and stereotypes - and the female body’s dramatic effect (den kvinnliga kroppens dramatiska effekt) - encapsulated in all descriptions of women to further dramatize the story or symbolize the injustice of the perpetrator’s deeds.  The results of the study have been analyzed using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis and Stuart Hall's representation theory. Both present that humans way of perceiving the world and how it is constructed and maintained through social processes and vice versa. Furthermore, the results have also been analyzed using Yvonne Hirdmans theory on gender. The theory demonstrates gender as more profound attempts to make visible and understand obvious as well as subtle power relations between men and women, as well as the reproduction of women as subordinates.  From the perspective of journalism, the discourses found in the result of this study contribute to the understanding of the media perspective of female victims. This proves especially relevant as true crime podcasts continue to grow in popularity.

Ironins röst i Flashback Forever : - En studie av en podcasts underhållande ironier i interaktioner

Lindgren, Caroline, Widå, Pernilla January 2023 (has links)
The following qualitative study has examined the verbal irony in the podcast “Flashback Forever”. There is a lack of research in the field of irony in podcasts. The essay aimed to understand how podcast hosts can entertain through ironic utterances and how irony can affect interactions. In order to reach a conclusion, the following question was formed: How can irony be used through interactions in the podcast? To answer the question an interaction analysis was used as a method. Two different sequences from the podcast were transcribed to discover ironic phenomena that could be analyzed from an entertaining perspective. Results show that there were four categories of irony that could create different meanings based on the context. Furthermore, the podcast hosts had to consider the listeners’ pre-understanding of the topic to create humor out of irony. In conclusion, it was stated that by using irony as entertainment, the podcast hosts can unite listeners in a common doxa, convey opinions, and touch sensitive topics without provoking.

Visualizing the Non-visual : Narrative Themes and Paratextual Reflections in the Visualization of Sasha James

Reje Franzén, Fanny January 2023 (has links)
This thesis examines the themes of characterization of the character Sasha James and Not-Sasha within the media text The Magnus Archives, as well as which of the themes can be seen reflected in the visual paratextual works created by the audio dramas fan community. This is to examine what influences the visual representation created in paratextual work when the media text from which the visuals take inspiration lacks visuals and description of characters. The thesis employs a thematic-analysis approach and monster theory to understand how the horror genre and the monstrous narrative of Sasha James have helped inspire the visualizations. The result presents three themes of Sasha James' canon narrative that have impacted the visual paratextual work created by the audio dramas fan community: The “real” Sasha, Not-There, and wit. The themes showed how fans approached the subject of the monstrous body within the paratextual work by presenting a version of Not-Sasha with easily identified monstrous features, but also their willingness to employ the monster’s wit to visualize it as a humanoid version, working as a parallel to Sasha James.

Fresh and Fit : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys om kreatörers val och dess kommentarsfält / Fresh and Fit : A quantitative content analysis on creators' choices and its comment field

Eriksson, Malin, Yngvesson Poijes, Jennifer January 2023 (has links)
This is a quantitative content analysis that dives deep into the Fresh and Fit podcast channel on YouTube. The study uses the framing theory and the gender theory. We wonder why other creators choose some of the video material from the channel Fresh and Fit podcast and make it their “best of” edition. All videos from other creators made between the years 2022 and 2023 have been selected for the study and through this a total selection has been made. To each video the top 5 top comments are analyzed to see which tonality dominates. Through gender theory, the comment field will be examined and thus focus on the dominant tonality. The reason for not including videos presented by Fresh and Fit themselves is to exclude their own opinions and only concentrate the study on the choices of other creators. This is interesting as larger YouTube profiles more easily get further sharing by other people's accounts, who in different ways comment or cut out material that is further presented to the audience. It may affect different major accounts in different ways as their own material may be angled in ways that are beyond the bigger channels control. In addition, the creators can get help to spread their material more easily through the interest that exists in the larger channel's already established following, which can further result in the smaller creator's account growing even larger. This is the case for Fresh and Fit, which over the course of four years has grown so large that a number of different creators have chosen to use their material and republish it. So too satisfy curiosity, we have chosen to dive deeper into how other creators take liberties with Fresh and Fit material published on YouTube. The results show that it turned out that the creators were mainly interested in bringing up topics of conversation that dealt with women's behavior. In addition to this, the study concluded that those who mainly got to speak were the hosts together with female guests, but that male guests were given more space of their own to express themselves.

Designing podcast listening history visualizations on mobile screens : A design study investigating visual representations of temporal data

Forsrup, Ben January 2020 (has links)
As listening to podcasts have increased in most western countries, podcast applications need to become more exciting both content-wise, functionally, and visually as well as contain original features, to differentiate them-selves from the competition. One such feature is data visualization, which is in this study argued to deliver additional value for users. This design study investigated the possibility of visually representing personal listening history from podcasts into a mobile application through focusing on the following question: How can visualization of podcast listening history give additional value to the user-experience on a mobile screen? Research on visualization of temporal data and user experience was used as the foundational theory, with additional information from state-of-the-art products. Using a variant of the design process, described in Design Study Methodology, a final design was developed iteratively, with focus groups and usability tests. After designing and implementing a proposed solution, usability tests were conducted remotely, using videos of a hi-fidelity prototype. Concluding the research, one finding is that a successful data visualization of podcast listening history on mobile screens should include only meaningful animations and interactions and separation between visual elements and filtering options. To fully understand the best implementation strategy, more refined and expansive studies are required, with more test participants. User tests in this study were limited due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
