An investigation of performance in the Biology 5090 at selected high schools in Lesotho / Investigation of performance in the Biology five thousand and ninety at selected high schools in Lesotho

Lebata, Mamalanga Calextina 06 1900 (has links)
Performance in Lesotho at senior level (COSC) has been poor. One of the subjects which is performed poorly is Biology 5090. This prompted the researcher to examine factors responsible for the poor performance in Biology 5090. The study also aimed at finding ways in which teachers envisage to improve Biology 5090 performance. Data was collected from three schools through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The study also adopted the General System Theory (GST) as the theoretical framework. Data was analyzed in line with qualitative content analysis, and from the perspective of the GST. The data analysis scheme was developed and presented (appendix P). The results of the study showed that Biology 5090 performance was affected by factors such as human resources, and the transformation process. The study also suggested ways in which Biology 5090 performance could be improved in Lesotho. These include: in-serving training, team work and others. / Science and Technology Education / M. Ed. The role of communication satisfaction in job satisfaction in the Department of Communications : an exploration

Nhlapo, Joseph Maotla 01 1900 (has links)
This researcher investigates the role of communication satisfaction in job satisfaction in the Department of Communications, a government policy-making institution that deals with post, telecommunications, and broadcasting services in South Africa. This study describes communication satisfaction as the overall degree of satisfaction an employee perceives in his total communication environment and job satisfaction as the degree of satisfaction the individual feels with his job. Focus groups are used to explore the role of communication satisfaction in job satisfaction in the Department of Communications because they are appropriate and suitable in capturing the discussions reflecting emotions, particularly uncovering individuals' feelings about their environment. The emphasis is on finding out how communication motivates and makes employees satisfied in their jobs. Qualitative content analysis, based on transcriptions from audiotapes, is used for interpretation and analysis of the data. These transcnptions reflect the descriptive nature of the data and people's own spoken words. / Communication Science / M. A. (Communication)

Pojetí mediální výchovy v učebnicích a výukových materiálech pro 1. stupeň ZŠ / Media education in text books and teaching materials for primary school

Pokrupová, Kateřina January 2018 (has links)
The central theme of the diploma thesis is incorporation of media education at the first stage of primary school. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly defines the basic concepts related to media education, offers an insight into historcal background and gradual integration of media education into the Czech educational system and, last but not least, introduces current state of this cross-curricular topic at Czech schools. The practical part is devoted to a research survey aimed at finding out which didactic topics of media education are mostly reflected in educational materials intended for the first stage of primary school and at the same time at ascertaining how the pupils are mostly involved in media education in terms of task assignments contained in teaching materials. The results of the research show that the most frequently reflected topics of media education that appear in educational materials are advertising, its regulation and influence and characteristics and function of traditional media. In case of the method of pupils involvement in media education, the research findings show that pupils are mostly called upon to receptive activities. To obtain the results of the research survey, qualitative content analysis of selected teaching materials was used.

Little Green Men? A Frame Analysis of the Ukraine Crisis

Westerdahl, Erik January 2018 (has links)
In this paper I set out to explore the concept of framing and framing contests, as modelled by scholars of international relations Krebs and Jackson in their model of rhetorical coercion. I proceed to conduct a frame analysis on the case of the Ukraine crisis, using statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen concerning the events. I do this by a research method known as content analysis, more specifically its qualitative version. Qualitative content analysis is an established method in the sub-discipline of international relations, and combining it with frame analysis provides an interesting analysis of this case. In line with Krebs and Jackson’s theory, I find that without a common frame among the actors, the debate is indeed fundamental and wide-ranging, with Russia and NATO not only having different positions on issues, but first and foremost speaking about different issues altogether concerning the Ukraine crisis. Lastly, while I find qualitative content analysis satisfactory in analysing framing contests, other areas of their model of rhetorical coercion is lacking, more specifically that their description of the causal relations in rhetorical coercion is inapplicable on the international dynamic of politics, and suggest that a new causal model be created by integrating qualitative content analysis and foreign policy analysis.

Didaktická reflexe globálních angličtin v učebních textech pro učitele angličtiny / The role of English in the globalized world and its reflection in current teacher training manuals

Hovorka, Marek January 2016 (has links)
The present thesis is concerned with the reflection of Global Englishes (GEs) and English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) in current teacher training manuals. The theoretical part introduces research into GEs and ELF with an emphasis on the pedagogical implications of the global role of English. The practical part consists in an analysis of four teachers training manuals of British provenance published between 2011 and 2014. Using a qualitative content analysis (see Schreier 2012), the author identifies in the selected publications textual material reflecting research into GEs and ELF. The identified textual material deals primarily with the teaching of language (e.g. pronunciation teaching) and culture (e.g. cultural relevance of materials), but attention is also paid to the current role of English in the world. On the basis of this material, the author then evaluates how the selected publications reflect research into GEs and ELF. The conclusion provides a summary of results, and suggestions for further research. Keywords: Global Englishes, English as a Lingua Franca, teacher training manuals, ELT, qualitative content analysis

Zobrazení politického Východu v karikatuře ve francouzském časopise Le Canard enchaîné v období 1945-1970 / Picture of the political East in the caricature in the French magazine Le Cannard enchîné in 1945-1970

Walsh, Diana January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of caricatures with a theme of the Eastern block in French satirical weekly magazine Le Canard enchaîné in 1945-1970. By the Eastern block, we understand the Soviet Union and its associated socialistic countries. The thesis is anchored in the theoretical part by historical context of the history of the eastern countries, as well as by the development of analysed weekly magazine on the background of the history of France, by the formulation of the concepts of caricature and satire, including important authors, and the research methods themselves. Triangulation, in this case the combination of quantitative content analysis and semiotic analysis, aims to analyse individual caricatures with the theme of the East and its individual countries. The analysed periods are divided into two sections, due to the availability of materials, namely 1945-1948 and 1968-1970.

: A content analysis of CSR discourse in annual reports for Swedish listed companies from two industries

Asplund, Anton, Id, Jon January 2017 (has links)
- A content analysis of CSR discourse in annual reports for Swedish listed companies from two industries Background: Profits in welfare sector are a topic that has taken a lot of space in the 2010s in the Swedish political and social debate. Given that CSR disclosures differs between industries, and that legitimacy theory is one of the most prominent theories in the field, we wonder how companies in the welfare sector report about social responsibility. Since welfare companies are diligently discussed and constantly in the spotlight, it is crucial that these companies are perceived as legitimate by society. One way to achieve this legitimacy is to strategically use the annual report. We are, therefore, interested in investigating whether it is possible to distinguish a qualitative legitimacy strategy that includes social values in social welfare companies CSR disclosure and comparing it with the financial sector. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to create an understanding of the CSR discourse in different industries. Through a qualitative content analysis of the CSR and voluntary reporting in the annual reports for welfare companies and major banks, we intend to investigate whether industry-specific differences can be found in the reporting of social responsibility. Through comparisons between welfare companies and major banks, we intend to study whether these industry-specific differences are based on different qualitative legitimization strategies. Method: The study has an abductive research approach in which the theoretical basis, which is expected to explain industry-specific qualitative legitimization strategies, is based on legitimacy theory, interest theory, institutional theory, shareholder value and signaling theory. The qualitative research approach is based on Swedish annual reports from six listed welfare companies and the four major banks from 2015/2016. Result and conclusion: The study has found industry-specific differences in CSR reporting discourse based on different qualitative legitimization strategies. The results indicate that certain actors, relationships, driving forces and interests are central to the various industries. This result contributes to the literature and reinforces the insight that CSR is influenced by industry affiliation.

Počátky a vývoj českého hip hopu v tuzemských hudebních časopisech / The beginnings and evolution of Czech hip hop in domestic music magazines

Tkáč, Vojtěch January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis analyses the beginnings of hip hop in the Czech Republic in the context of domestic music magazines. It aims to examine the media depiction of this cultural phenomenon in its entirety with an emphasis on the musical genre of rap. Through qualitative content analysis of text data, it observes specific periodicals in two time periods. The first of them was in the years 1989 to 1999, when the first attempts to transfer the originally American genre to the domestic environment began to appear in the country. The second analysed stage is limited to the years 2000 and 2002, in which two key albums were released, namely Repertoár by the group PSH and My 3 by Indy & Wich. The magazines Melodie, Rock & Pop, Report, Tripmag, Ultramix and Bbarák were used in the qualitative content analysis. The thesis examines the first printed mentions of Czech hip hop, but also focuses on reviews, interviews and other extensive journalistic genres, especially at a later stage. Qualitative content analysis of textual data is complemented by semi-structured interviews with leading music publicists, but also artists who have contributed to the establishment of rap in terms of Czech music. The research method of oral history was also used and made it possible to obtain information with witnesses that have...

Barnperspektiv inom samhällsplanering : Integrering av barnkonventionen i fysisk planering

Skoglund, Robin January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to contribute to the knowledge base of childrens rights application in urban planning. The research goal has been achieved by examining the Convention on the Rights of the Child in spatial planning and urban development. The report addresses obstacles and challenges that Swedish authorities and municipalities encounter during application of child perspective's in urban planning. With regard to accessibility, this study presents an overall description of established societal factors that affect the Swedish authorities' and municipalities' work with urban development. The study uses a qualitative content analysis in order to highlight underlying messages in the reviewed report. The content analysis consists of four sub-processes; data collection, coding, thematization, and verification of the analysis’ conclusion. Through Boverket’s report, the content analysis highlights challenges that affect the application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in physical planning. The result contributes to an increased understanding of current challenges that affect participants in the process of urban planning. The majority of the analyzed text shows that needs and guidance are central factors for the coming adjustments in Swedish spatial planning. Boverket’s report highlights the need for further investigation and future guidance in the incorporation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In short term, the requirements associated with lack of resources and competence in smaller municipalities can be alleviated by centralizing Boverket as the main responsible authority for child rights work. Part of the purpose of centralization is that methods and strategies can be standardized, which can contribute to a consistent and fair application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on national scale.
