公民新聞的在地實踐-公視PeoPo新聞平台公眾參與及多元報導研究 / The Citizen journalism in Taiwan-The research of public participation and diversity reports in PeoPo , PTS王晴玲, Wang, Ching Ling Unknown Date (has links)
媒體網路科技的發展以及數位技術的解放，讓個人媒體開始出現。這些草根媒體不論在型態或是內容產製上都與過去的大眾媒體有很大的差異。2000年韓國出現了強調人人都是記者的公民新聞媒體《Ohmynews》，短短幾年成為韓國前10大影響力的新聞媒體，也讓公民新聞開始受重視。在察覺公民新聞的發展趨勢以及擴大台灣公共電視影響力的需求下，2007年4月30日PeoPo公民新聞平台正式成立運作，它是第一個強調以影音為主的公民新聞媒體，也是強調人人皆可參與的開放新聞平台。
一年的運作下來，PeoPo公民新聞平台不論在公民記者人數的成長或是新聞數量的增加都有了相當的成績，並且舉辦過多場活動展現了草根媒體的影響力。透過PeoPo公民新聞平台，更多人有了公共參與以及關心社區事物的機會，也看到了不同地區、年齡、背景的民眾參與公民報導的實踐。
本研究將透過實際參與PeoPo新聞平台發展一年觀察的田野筆記，呈現PeoPo公民新聞平台發展的軌跡；並且透過量化的問卷以及質性的深度訪談，了解PeoPo公民新聞平台在公眾參與以及多元報導上的表現。

「合作／非合作」語用原則─論記者與消息來源之語言互動策略 / The cooperative/non-cooperative verbal interaction between news reporters and news sources林金池, Lin, Chin Chih Unknown Date (has links)
本研究從作者實務工作曾經遭遇的兩個「威嚇語言」互動策略為起點，發現過去相關研究多屬探討記者與消息來源互動社會結構層面之「靜態論述」，鮮少觸及「語言互動」策略與內涵。本研究改以語用學之言說行動、語境概念、禮貌原則以及社會心理學之面子、面子威脅等概念為基礎，歸納出人際溝通由核心到外圍的語言互動脈絡，並依合作程度高低推演出記者與消息來源間之「合作性語言互動」(cooperative verbal interaction)與「非合作性語言互動」(non-cooperative verbal interaction)兩種不同語言互動策略。
根據訪談與個案研究資料所示，記者與消息來源語言互動過程使用之各種不同手法（如婉言相勸、閃躲、打哈哈、口頭威嚇、直接修理等），均可歸納於「合作／非合作」語言互動策略範疇。整體而言，「合作語言策略」最常出現，「非合作語言策略」在互動過程只是施壓手段，但兩種策略若像「胡蘿蔔與棍子」般地交叉運用，則常有較佳效果。
本研究亦發現，消息來源並非記者隨意擺布的「掌中棋」，亦即記者若不當使用「非合作語言策略」而將消息來源逼至瀕臨壓力邊緣之際，消息來源亦會使用「非合作語言策略」嚴厲反擊而造成反效果。因此，語言策略的尺度拿捏與技巧等語境因素，常是互動雙方能否達成目標之微妙關鍵所在。 / As previous studies in this area have long emphasized more on the social levels of reporter-source interactions, this study, based on the literature of pragmatics, facework, and impoliteness, examined how the news reporters interact with their sources on a linguistic level trying to distinguish varied verbal strategies used by these two interactants in news reporting, such as exhorting, evasiveness, verbal threatening, and verbal attacking.
Research result reveals that both cooperative/non-cooperative verbal interactive strategies are common and easily observable in news reporters’ routine meetings with their sources. In principle, the non-cooperative verbal interaction can be further divided into four sublevels according to the degrees of cooperation between the two interactants.
In conclusion, it is confirmed that the cooperative/non-cooperative verbal interaction model developed in this study can be used not only as a research framework to examine the reporter-source interactions in a qualitative way, but also as a practical strategy which would show that both the reporters and sources may use the model to detect and challenge, and in the meantime to counterattack, the other side in their daily encounters.

The political role of black women journalists in post-apartheid South Africa : Sowetan (1994-1999)Nodoba, Todani 12 1900 (has links)

oppression of black South Africans during the Apartheid era. In this regard the Sowetan
newspaper made a great contribution. However, the political role that black women
journalists played at the Sowetan has been ignored, before and after 1994. After 1994,
political black women journalists at the Sowetan continued to make strides despite the
hostile environment that these women journalists worked in. The limitation of beats and
assignments, lack of promotions and many other challenges that black women journalists
faced during this period made their work environment unfriendly and hostile towards
their performance.
This study examines the political role made by black women journalists at the Sowetan
newspaper from 1994 to 1999. The study shows how the black women journalists
brought different perspectives in news at the Sowetan through their manner of reporting
and also how they viewed matters within the context of a new democracy in South
Africa. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Swart joernaliste in Suid-Afrika het ’n onontbeerlike rol gespeel in die onthulling van die politieke onderdrukking van swart Suid-Afrikaners tydens die apartheidsjare. In hierdie verband het die Sowetan-koerant ’n groot bydrae gelewer. Die politieke rol van swart
vrouejoernaliste by die Sowetan is egter geïgnoreer, voor en ná 1994. Ná 1994 het
politieke swart vrouejoernaliste by die Sowetan steeds opgang gemaak, ten spyte van die
vyandige omgewing waarin hierdie vroue gewerk het. Beperkte opdragte en spesialisonderwerpe om te dek, ’n gebrek aan bevordering en die talle ander uitdagings
wat swart vrouejoernaliste in hierdie tydperk moes trotseer, het hul werksomgewing
onvriendelik en vyandig gemaak met betrekking tot hul werksverrigting.
Hierdie studie ondersoek die politieke rol wat vanaf 1994 tot 1999 deur swart
vrouejoernaliste by die Sowetan gespeel is. Die studie toon aan hoe die swart
vrouejoernaliste ander nuusperspektiewe na die Sowetan gebring het, met die wyse
waarop hulle verslag gedoen het en ook waarop hulle aangeleenthede in die breë verband
van ’n nuwe demokratiese bestel in Suid-Afrika beskou het.

Text in English / Social media has taken the world by storm and keeps on evolving. This evolution poses a threat as well as an opportunity to mankind, to the livelihoods of hordes of people employed in the media industry. It also presents a unique opportunity to chart new waters. This study explores the convergence and divergence of new media and traditional media. This divergence and convergence, if properly understood, will help in understanding the future of traditional media, and thus mitigate the threats posed by the ever evolving social media and communication technologies. This study provided a test case on the legitimacy of traditional media in as much as the ‘public interest and purveyor of public opinion’ clause of the media is concerned. The media cannot afford to live by Marx doctrine of “he who owns the means of production also controls the production of ideas in that epoch’. If it is going to be a driver and custodian of democracy in a new emerging Africa, the media has a responsibility to be the voice of the voiceless. Social media plugs the gap that traditional media leaves. Thus, the two can thus complement each other, rather than compete with each other within the same space. The population in Africa is becoming younger and younger and by extension they are moving away from traditional media towards digital and social media. There is an opportunity to be seized there. This study established that the traditional media has entrenched ways of looking at news, which are normally divergent from the way that the general populace, as captured in social media does. / Communication Science / M.A. (Communication Science)

An exploration of a community's expectations of a community newspaper : a case study of Fourways ReviewPotter, Daniella Ann 02 1900 (has links)
This research explores to what extent the community newspaper, Fourways Review, which is distributed to a geographically demarcated area in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, is fulfilling the community’s expectations; how community members use the newspaper and how Fourways Review’s community journalists define their roles. The research uses a qualitative approach to collect data through face-to-face, in-depth interviews with a sample of 30 community members and eight news team members; and one week of participant observation in the newsroom. Data is analysed through a constant comparative technique.
The research finds Fourways Review is accepted in the community but is not as community-minded as a community newspaper should be, which affects how the community members use the publication. Community member respondents attribute the criticism to the influence of a market-driven approach to reporting. This is echoed by the news team respondents who say news production is influenced by community, advertising and inter-departmental pressures. / Communication Science / M.A. (Communication Studies)

Coverage of the Fukushima crisis in the two major English-language newspapers in Japan : a critical analysisFinn-Maeda, Carey 11 1900 (has links)
This study uses a mixed-method approach to analyse the coverage of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear crisis in Japan’s two major English-language newspapers – The Japan Times and The Daily Yomiuri. Quantitative coding is combined with critical discourse analysis to determine whether the coverage was, overall, predominantly alarming, reassuring, or relatively balanced and neutral. This is done to ascertain whether the newspapers were sensationalising the crisis, echoing the official government and industry communication thereof, or reporting in a critical, responsible manner as the fourth estate. To answer the research question, key aspects of the coverage like foci, framing, sources, narratives, actors and agency, and criticisms are closely examined. It is revealed that the coverage was neither predominantly alarming nor reassuring, but was problematic in other ways. The implications of the complex findings, both for the Japanese media industry and international disaster reporting, are discussed. The study is situated in a broad literature framework that draws on agenda setting theory, research about the roles and responsibilities of the media, the field of risk communication and the reporting of radiation events in history. / Communication Science / M.A. (Communication)

Female Friendship Films: A Post-Feminist Examination of Representations of Women in the Fashion IndustryGeloğullari, Gülin 12 1900 (has links)
This thesis focuses on three fashion industry themed female friendship films: Pret-a-Porter/Ready to Wear (1994) by Robert Altman, The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by David Frankel, and The September Issue (2009) by R.J. Cutler. Female interpersonal relationships are complex – women often work to motivate, encourage and transform one another but can just as easily use tactics like intimidation, manipulation, and exploitation in order to save their own jobs and reputations. Through the lens of post-feminist theory, this thesis examines significant female interpersonal relationships in each film to illustrate how femininity is constructed and driven by consumer culture in the fashion industry themed films.
