Halef, Birsen, Charo, Izla January 2016 (has links)
Research has shown that the Swedish results of education have fallen continuously since 2000. It has been shown that there are differences in performance between native students and immigrant students. National Centre for “Swedish as a second language” indicates that Swedish schools fail to give all students an equal and high quality education. Then Swedish as a second language education can be organized in two different ways a wonder arise if it can depend on how teachers´ conditions in teaching reveals in these. This study aims to lighten primary school teachers' views on the opportunities and difficulties in second language teaching, which can be organized in two different ways, "separate" and "within the framework of the class". The research questions of the study are, 1) What requirements do teachers perceive that the curriculum for “Swedish as a second language” requires? What opportunities and difficulties can be seen here? 2) What trade-offs are made in the planning of teaching and how are these applied in the teaching of “Swedish as a second language”? What opportunities and difficulties can be seen here? 3) What conditions for scaffolding and interaction do teachers create in teaching "Swedish as a second language? What opportunities and difficulties can be seen here? By using Shulmans theory PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge) it manages to visualize teacher language didactic choices within the subject “Swedish as a second language”. Through a qualitative study based on interviews and observations, the result shows that both teachers reason about a range of language didactic choices, opportunities and solutions, but these could not always be transformed and seen in practice. During the observations, it became clear that the “Swedish as a second language” teaching structural conditions both enabling and impeding teachers to conduct effective teaching. In this case, separate teaching came to be ineffective because they did not have a language development perspectives in school, thereby the subject was stigmatized.

The theoretical constructs of value, intellectual capital, business model and process perspective, have been reviewed. From these constructs, a conceptual model has been developed. This model is able to integrate human, structural and relational dimensions of intellectual capital, and guide them to process of creating, delivering and capturing value for the company, through a business model evolutionary perspective. The conceptual model was empirically applied to the Movile company, a VAS technology developer, through a single case study, carried out at an interval of 18 months, in a period comprised between april 2013 and september 2014. Data were collected from six interviews, and complemented by primary and secondary artifacts, as well as by direct observations. As a result, it has been observed that human, structural and relational dimensions of intellectual capital, are closely related to value creation process, and were gradually built and hinged along an organizational evolutionary process, of more than 15 years. During this period, six different business models were identified, involving the past, present and future of the company. In the initial phase, human and relational dimensions were essential to value creation. In subsequent steps, there was an importance alternation of dimensions in value creation process, and an enhancement of each dimension features, showing the relational dimension as a determining factor for value creation in the company long-term future. As an empirical contribution, the business model evolutionary analysis, through the articulation of the intellectual capital dimensions, provides analytical elements for new companies that emerge in Mobile VAS industry. In relation to the telecommunications companies, these tend to turn into a pipe performance, substantially focused on providing technology infrastructure to mobile VAS companies.

Informations- och kommunikationsteknik inom Sva : – Fem lärares motivation, teknik och metoder inom IKT / Information and communications within SAS : - Five teachers' motivation, technology and methods within ICT

Wahlström, Maria January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how teachers work with information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching Swedish as a second language. Qualitative semi-structured research interviews where done with five teachers in Stockholm. The study is based on two overarching research questions; the teachers reason of using ICT and second which methods and tools they use. The result shows that ICT has a central role in teaching and serve different purposes. The students are more motivated when they are activated and they reach higher control in their learning, it also becomes more entertaining teaching and it facilitates individualized teaching, stimulates different learning styles and more. The role of the teacher is not replaced by technology, but it takes on new forms when the teacher can meet students regardless of time and place. The tools they use are different but they all work with learning management systems (via mobile, computers or I-pads) and all teachers allows students to have their private mobile phones. Teachers are experiencing challenges such as IT investments closed down, they feel alone in their involvement in school or have a lack of time to explore further opportunities with the digital work.

Sistemas de arquivos paralelos: alternativas para a redução do gargalo no acesso ao sistema de arquivos / Parallel File Systems: alternatives to reduce the bottleneck in accessing the file system

Carvalho, Roberto Pires de 23 September 2005 (has links)
In the last years, the evolution of the data processing power and network transmission for low cost computers was much bigger if compared to the increase of the speed of getting the data stored in disks. Therefore, many applications are finding difficulties in reaching the full use of the processors, because they have to wait until the data arrive before using. A popular way to solve this problem is to use a parallel file system, which uses the local network speed to avoid the performance bottleneck found in an isolated disk. In this study, we analyze some parallel and distributed file systems, detailing the most interesting and important ones. Finally, we show the use of a parallel file system can be more efficient than the use of a usual local file system, for just one client.

The context, purpose, and dissemination of legendary genealogies in northern England and Iceland, c.1120-c.1241

Lunga, Peter Sigurdson January 2018 (has links)
The thesis is a comparative and multidisciplinary study of legendary genealogies in the historical writing of northern England and Iceland c. 1120 – c. 1241. Historical writing was produced in abundance over this period in both areas and the frequent contact between England and Scandinavia, as well as shared use of early medieval insular sources make them especially suitable for comparison. The Viking invasions and settlement in England had a significant impact on English culture, language and literature and changed attitudes to their own legendary past. The Danish conquest of England in the early eleventh-century also brought the insular and Scandinavian worlds closer together, and even after the Norman Conquest in 1066, England and Scandinavia engaged in scholarly and textual exchange The theoretical framework for the thesis combines approaches from religious history, art history, political history, literature history and gender history. The main research questions of the thesis consider the dissemination, development, and purpose of legendary genealogies. The sources are a collection of Durham related manuscripts with illuminations of the pagan god Woden (c. 1120–88) in two historical works De Primo Saxonum Aduentu and De Gestis Regum; Genealogia Regum Anglorum (Rievaulx, 1153x54) by Aelred of Rievaulx; two works attributed to Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda (Iceland, 1220s) and Heimskringla (Iceland, 1225x35). Common to the sources is the inclusion of genealogies that stretch from legendary generations to living individuals at the time of writing. Thus, genealogies connected dynasties and civilisations in mutual descent from pagan, Trojan and biblical ancestors. By analysing textual dissemination as well as political contexts, literary patronage and mechanisms in legitimisation of power, the thesis address amalgamations of origin myths, the use and significance euhemerised pagan gods, and female generations in genealogies.

Legal and regulatory aspects of mobile financial services

Perlman, Leon Joseph 11 1900 (has links)
The thesis deals with the emergence of bank and non-bank entities that provide a range of unique transaction-based payment services broadly called Mobile Financial Services (MFS) to unbanked, underserved and underbanked persons via mobile phones. Models of MFS from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), banks, combinations of MNOs and banks, and independent Mobile Financial Services Providers are covered. Provision by non-banks of ‘bank-type’ services via mobile phones has been termed ‘transformational banking’ versus the ‘additive banking’ services from banks. All involve the concept of ‘branchless banking’ whereby ‘cash-in/cash out’ services are provided through ‘agents.’ Funds for MFS payments may available through a Stored Value Product (SVP), particularly through a Stored Value Account SVP variant offered by MNOs where value is stored as a redeemable fiat- or mobile ‘airtime’-based Store of Value. The competitive, legal, technical and regulatory nature of non-bank versus bank MFS models is discussed, in particular the impact of banking, payments, money laundering, telecommunications, e-commerce and consumer protection laws. Whether funding mechanisms for SVPs may amount to deposit-taking such that entities could be engaged in the ‘business of banking’ is discussed. The continued use of ‘deposit’ as the traditional trigger for the ‘business of banking’ is investigated, alongside whether transaction and paymentcentric MFS rises to the ‘business of banking.’ An extensive evaluation of ‘money’ based on the Orthodox and Claim School economic theories is undertaken in relation to SVPs used in MFS, their legal associations and import, and whether they may be deemed ‘money’ in law. Consumer protection for MFS and payments generally through current statute, contract, and payment law and common law condictiones are found to be wanting. Possible regulatory arbitrage in relation to MFS in South African law is discussed. The legal and regulatory regimes in the European Union, Kenya and the United States of America are compared with South Africa. The need for a coordinated payments-specific law that has consumer protections, enables proportional risk-based licensing of new non-bank providers of MFS, and allows for a regulator for retail payments is recommended. The use of trust companies and trust accounts is recommended for protection of user funds. | vi / Public, Constitutional and International Law / LLD
