Now to a terrible thing that happened in Finland this morning” : A multimodal analysis of Lilla Aktuellts’ reporting on the school shooting in VantaaHolm, Anna, Einarsson, Astrid January 2024 (has links)
On morning of the second of April 2024, a twelve-year-old boy stepped into his elementaryschool in Vantaa, Finland and shot one boy of the same age dead and wounded two girls. In theevent of crisis, a surge for information is created. This thesis aims to study the Swedish newsshow for children, Lilla Aktuellts’, crisis reporting on multiple platforms in the case of theschool shooting in Vantaa. Through applying a multimodal analysis of Lilla Aktuellts’ TikTokvideo, including the comment section, three news broadcasts and a qualitative text analysis ofthe chat communication in the app SVT Duo the study focuses on research questions regardinghow Lilla Aktuellt portrayed the school shooting in Vantaa, Finland, in news broadcasts and onTikTok, if Lilla Aktuellt used constructive elements in to convey the news to its audience, andwhat role hybridity play in the use of digital platforms in reporting. In the study, we found thatLilla Aktuellt portrayed the shooting in a manner which focused on the reactions from thecommunity, whilst the suspected shooter was given relatively little space. Through the selectionof image material and language the shooting was portrayed as woeful and rare. In the reportingconstructive elements were used by opening a 30-minute chat with the school safety expertLena Ljungdahl and two of Lilla Aktuellts’ reporters where children were welcome to posequestions about the incident and their worries and fears about school shootings. Selectedquestions were also incorporated into the following news segments. Using a hybrid approach tothe reporting gave Lilla Aktuellt a chance to reach out with information in different formats, atdifferent points in time and to audiences that don't usually find their broadcasts. It also givesthe chance to interact with the audience.

Agrese a násilí vůči pedagogům pohledem pedagogů na gymnáziích / Aggression and Violence towards Educators - from the Perspective of Secondary School EducatorsFranková, Monika January 2012 (has links)
The master thesis entitled Aggression and Violence towards Educators - from the Perspective of Secondary School Educators elaborates the problem of aggression and violence in school. The theoretical part contents a general description of the phenomena aggression and violence, further it focuses on school aggression, violence among pupils (bullying, cyber bullying) and other forms of school violence. The main research problems of the thesis are two forms of school violence: these are aggression and violence of students towards educators and aggression and violence of parents towards educators. The focus is concentrated on various forms of verbal and physical aggression exerted towards educators. Related to aggression and violence towards educators the thesis also attends to cyber-harassment and to a heavy form of school violence as is school shooting. In the empirical part of the thesis the aggression and violence aimed towards teachers, caused by students and their parents as well, are inquired in detail in the research. The research has been done at secondary schools chosen. Herein is analyzed whether educators consider the problem of aggression and violence towards their own personality as topical, whether they did meet some forms of such violence or whether they did face some forms of cyber bullying and...

Objectives: To determine the incidence of a drug or alcohol addiction among the students who witnessed the Dawson shooting, in the 18 months that followed the event. Identify predictors of development of an addiction to a psychoactive substance, taking into account the severity of the exposure to the event. Consider whether alcohol consumption, 18 months after the event, is connected to the different categories of symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Method: The population under study includes the students at Dawson College at the time of the event. Analyses were conducted with data from 854 students enrolled at the College when the shooting took place. Results: In the 18 months following the shooting, 5 % of women and 7 % of men developed an addiction to a substance for the first time in their lives. For men, younger age (< 20 years old), the prevalence of suicidal thoughts throughout their lives, as well as having seen the perpetrator at the time of the shooting, were key predictors. No predictors were significant for women. Men and women also differed with regards to post-traumatic stress symptoms that predict alcohol consumption, 18 months after the shooting. Conclusion: The main outcome of this study stresses the importance of considering the gender of individuals, when evaluating their consumption of psychotropic drugs or alcohol after a trauma.

Fly. Sök skydd. Larma. / Escape. Seek shelter. Alert. : A quantitative analysis of Swedish students’ perception of risk information and worry about ongoing deadly violence.Andersson, Ellinor, Eriksson, Pernilla January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of information for the risk perception and worry regarding ongoing deadly violence (ODV) that students at Swedish schools experience. The role of information regards behaviours in relation to information seeking, information need and information as a way to reduce worry. In the study, a web survey was conducted in which 120 students at a Swedish school participated. Through a statistical analysis, the research questions were analysed from aspects regarding information consumption, risk perception, trust and worry to investigate the role information plays. The theoretical framework for this study consisted of theories and concepts from the risk communication research field (such as risk perception), but it also consisted of theories and concepts related to information consumption (such as information avoidance, uncertainty reduction theory, and risk information seeking and processing model). The result of this study indicated that students who worry and seek information about ODV believe that they possess knowledge about the subject. However, no correlation between a higher level of worry and increased information seeking was shown. The individuals that feel a greater responsibility to have knowledge about ODV seek more information. The students in this study have not been given information about ODV from their school, but generally want to get more information and believe that information could make them less worried. Those who trust the school would seek information about ODV from the school, while the ones that do not trust the school tend to seek more information by themselves. Furthermore, we encourage further research that aim to investigate which role the expectations of others regarding expected knowledge play for the level of knowledge that individuals possess about risks and their information consumption.
