Avaliação da satisfação sexual em pacientes com endometriose infiltrativa profunda / Sexual function in patients with Deep Infiltrating EndometriosisAlessandra Viviane Evangelista Demôro 22 January 2013 (has links)
Endometriosis is a benign condition that causes pain and infertility. Sexual dysfunction, particularly deep dyspareunia, is common in patients with endometriosis, and interferes with quality of life and sexual satisfaction. The aim of this study is to assess sexual satisfaction in women with deep infiltrating endometriosis. Fifty-seven women diagnosed with deep infiltrating endometriosis were selected from the endometriosis sector of the Hospital Universitário Pedro Ernesto (HUPE) between July 2010 and December 2011. The control group was consisted of 38 healthy women selected at the HUPE family planning clinic. Full-scale and individual domain scores on the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), a validated questionnaire for functional assessment of sexual activity in women was used. There were no statistically significant between-group differences in overall (full-scale) FSFI scores. Patients with endometriosis scored significantly lower than controls in the Pain domain, which means, more pain than control group . These findings suggest that women with endometriosis had a more negative impact in the Pain domain of the FSFI, but with no effect on overall sexual function.

Previous issue date: 2016-03-29 / Breast cancer is an important issue for psychology studies because it is a current issue that needs an eye toward issues of psychological and social order. Women who pass by the lumpectomy procedure and its partners are faced with the processed body and offering new significance it must, furthermore, mastectomy can bring several changes in intimate life of the couple. This body, which is marked by the absence of the body, has sexual representations, affective and is symbol of femininity in our society. In view of this, this paper anchored in the objective theory of social representations to analyse the social representations of the female body, the mastectomizado body and the level of sexual satisfaction of women with mastectomies and its partners. It consists of a multimethod research, descriptive and field held in institutions that cater to people with cancer, located in Paraíba. Included a non-probability sampling and convenience, totaling 20 participants, 10 women who underwent mastectomy and its partners. The instruments used were: one biosociodemográfico questionnaire analyzed in descriptive statistics; the Association of Technical Free Words, using the stimulus, 'the woman's body' and 'body in women with mastectomies'; analyzed by the thematic content analysis proposed by Bardin; A semi-structured interview, analyzed through the lexical analysis by IRAMUTEQ software and sexual satisfaction scale analyzed using descriptive statistics. The application of instruments occurred individually in institutions and home to the recorder aid; They were respected all ethical procedures involving human research. The results indicated that the representations of the body in women with mastectomies are more negative compared to the woman's body, having representations focused on the lack, mutilation, shame and prejudice, moreover, the body in women with mastectomies does not represent evocations focused on sexuality compared to the woman's body. For men the representations are less loaded with derogatory words, because the partners have proved themselves as supporters and aids in the treatment and full recovery of their partners. There is a decrease in the couple's sexual satisfaction after surgery, related to changes in a woman's self-image and their representations due to mastectomy, as well as to chemical cancer treatments. However, participants also considered a good sexual satisfaction and sought to create coping strategies to overcome the loss of the breast and the consequences of treatment. This study provided an opportunity to look about spousal support for women is essential in the recovery of their physical and mental integrity. Also, consider that health professionals are oriented to provide more support and information, creating projects that provide assistance with a view to promoting the quality of life of these social actors.

Sexualidade e envelhecimento: uma análise da relação atividade e satisfação sexual / Sexuality and aging: an analysis of relationship between sexual activity and satisfactionCarlos Lima Rodrigues 12 April 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze whether there is an association between sexual activity and sexual satisfaction, and demographic, socioeconomic and health conditions, and the importance given to sexual life in the past and nowadays by the elderly population living in São Paulo. Data from the SABE Study - Health, Welfare and Aging were considered, relating to sample of 2006, consisting of 1078 individuals, corresponding to a population of 854.724 elderly, after weighting, in São Paulo. Men and women have been analyzed separately and then information has been compared. The results showed that against the increased age and specific socioeconomic and health conditions, sexual satisfaction is becoming less associated with sexual activity and it is more observed among women than men. Regarding health conditions, occurrences of diseases among women proved more negative interference for sexual satisfaction than men. Among those married there was a highest ratio between sexual activity and sexual satisfaction. As a conclusion, it was observed that, with increasing age, sexual satisfaction is less tied to the sexual activity, regardless of sex, but it occurs more among women, which is not right to say that older people are asexual.

Beauty in the Eye of the Holder: The Contribution of Body Appreciation to Sexual Health in Adult WomenRobbins, Anne-Rose January 2017 (has links)
Perhaps one of the most embodied of human experiences, sexuality can be greatly affected by the way in which women perceive their body. Historically, scholars have dedicated their attention to negative facets of body image and how it is associated with poorer female sexual health, while mostly overlooking the positive aspects of this relationship. Similarly, although ageing is a key factor to consider when examining body image and sexual health, only a dearth of studies has attempted to describe the experiences of non-university aged women. To fill these gaps, this research program was designed to investigate the associations between positive and negative aspects of body image and explore how each contributes to sexual health in age-varied samples of adult women. Two survey studies were carried out. A total of 215 heterosexual women, aged 18 to 88, participated in the first study. Despite a high statistical overlap between body appreciation (i.e., positive body image) and body dissatisfaction (i.e., negative body image), the former was found to be a greater contributing factor to indicators of sexual health. Specifically, body appreciation was related to improved sexual function, lower sexuality-related distress, and higher sexual satisfaction, even when controlling for body mass index. Although many changes occur to the body as women get older, body appreciation was unrelated to age in this sample. Nevertheless, it was shown to moderate the negative association between age and sexual satisfaction, such that older women with high appreciation for their body reported being significantly more sexually satisfied than those with low body appreciation. While the first study explored the body image and sexual health experiences of adult women in general, the second article focused on the mechanisms through which one is related to the other in midlife and older women specifically. A total of 193 heterosexual women, aged 50 to 83, completed an online survey. Support was provided for the use of objectification theory (Frederickson & Roberts, 1997), a well-established theoretical framework in body image research, in explaining sexual health in midlife and older women. Body self-consciousness during sex partially explained the relationship between body shame, appearance anxiety, and sexual function, distress, and satisfaction. High body appreciation mitigated the detrimental effect of self-objectification constructs (i.e., body surveillance, appearance anxiety) and body self-consciousness during sex on midlife and older women's sexual health. Overall, based on the results of this dissertation, body appreciation appears to serve as a protective factor for improved sexual health. Similar to sexual satisfaction and sexual distress, positive and negative aspects of body image are related, but nonetheless distinct, concepts that should not be used interchangeably. Furthermore, midlife and older women's body image and sexual experiences differ from that of their younger counterparts; systematic generalisation of findings from one group to the other is thus unwarranted. Consideration for these various distinctions is not only required for increased understanding of the complex links between body image and sexuality across adulthood, but also relevant to guide prevention efforts at a sociocultural level and clinical interventions at the individual level.

Comfort Communicating Constructs on Relationship and Sexual SatisfactionKristina N Fairbanks (8800841) 06 May 2020 (has links)
<p>Research shows
the significance that communication patterns, beliefs, and behaviors hold
within a multitude of relationship types. Unfortunately, the same research also
shows that effective or positive communication is still not occurring as often
as we think. Communicative interaction breaks down, fails, or is utilized
negatively more often when emotionally charged topics are at the forefront of
the conversation, most often due to reported personal discomfort. This negative
interaction, and the subsequent breakdown in communication, can foster a
snowball effect – decreasing relationship and sexual satisfaction. This study was
aimed to discover how perceived comfort levels contributes to the lack of communication
of certain topics and how it is affecting relationship and sexual satisfaction.
The type of communicative process that occurs will affect the sexual
satisfaction and relationship satisfaction. Through an online survey,
participants anonymously responded to statements related to these concepts in
order to test relationships. Overall, it was found that respondents’
participation in self-monitoring, as well as what method of communication they
use, strongly influenced their comfort disclosing on different topics. Their
comfort did not have significant influence on their then communication process.
It was also found that communication processes influence couple’s relationship
and sexual satisfaction. These results urge marriage and family therapists to
update their clinical toolboxes and add self-monitoring to their
conceptualization when working with couples. </p>

Women’s Orgasm Gap as a Function of Precarious ManhoodJordan, Jessica A. 07 March 2019 (has links)
The disparity in frequency of orgasms between men and heterosexual women has been linked qualitatively to women purposefully not communicating their sexual needs in order to preserve their partner’s masculinity. In two studies I experimentally evaluated this relationship, sampling heterosexual undergraduate women. In study 1 (N = 246) I demonstrated that women who imagined not having an orgasm rated an imaginary partner as more insecure in his manhood, relative to women who imagined having an orgasm or going on a dinner date. These perceptions of insecurity mediated the relationship between not having an orgasm and reporting anxiety about hurting their partner’s ego. Additionally, this relationship was moderated by the degree to which women believe manhood must be earned and can be lost through sex. In study 2 (N = 282) I predicted women who imagine a partner who is insecure in his masculinity, relative to imagining a secure partner or a control condition, will be less willing to provide open and honest sexual communication, and this relationship would be mediated by anxiety about their partner’s ego, a relationship moderated by endorsement of precarious manhood beliefs. My analyses did not reveal support for these hypotheses. Implications, limitations and future directions are discussed.

Influence of Pornography Use and Acceptance Typology on Same-Sex Couple Relationship and Sexual SatisfactionTori A DiBona (9735566) 16 December 2020 (has links)
<p>This quantitative study sought to expand upon research surrounding the influence pornography use has on relationship and sexual satisfaction for gays and lesbians. Previous literature has primarily focused on the couple outcomes associated with pornography use for heterosexual romantic relationships. This research was conducted and conceptualized through the lens of queer and minority stress theory. It was hypothesized that amount of shared pornography use would be positively associated with relationship and sexual satisfaction for same-sex couples. Additionally, it was hypothesized that the relationship between amount of shared pornography use and relationship as well as sexual satisfaction for same-sex couples will be more strongly positively associated for a high level of acceptance of pornography use. Lastly, it was hypothesized that the relationship between the amount of shared pornography use and level of relationship as well as sexual satisfaction will be more strongly positively associated for women than men. Five of the six hypotheses were not statistically significant. The relationship between amount of shared pornography use and level of sexual satisfaction was strongly positively associated for higher levels of acceptance of pornography use. In addition, higher levels of acceptance of pornography use were related to higher levels of relationship satisfaction. Regarding control variables, relationship status was found to be significantly associated with relationship satisfaction. Participants who reported being either engaged or married indicated higher satisfaction with the current state of their romantic relationship than participants who were dating or cohabitating. Strengths and limitations, clinical implications, and future directions for research are explored.<br></p>

Impacts of Pornography Acceptance and Use on Self-esteem, Sexual Satisfaction, and Overall Relationship SatisfactionAlexandra L Gillespie (8103725) 10 December 2019 (has links)
Using a Structural Equation Modeling Approach, this study examines the relationship between pornography acceptance and frequency of use and self-esteem, sexual satisfaction, and overall relationship satisfaction. Almost all published studies prior to the present study have only measured pornography acceptance or frequency of use. This study is to help contribute to the literature of understanding pornography through measuring pornography acceptance and frequency of use. The model was run overall and based on gender as previous literature had indicated differences in sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction with the use of pornography. It was expected that acceptance and more frequent use of pornography would positively predict self-esteem for men but negatively predict self-esteem for women. It was also expected that acceptance of pornography use would positively predict sexual satisfaction for men and negatively predict sexual satisfaction for women. Additionally, it was expected that higher self-esteem and higher sexual satisfaction will lead to a higher level of relationship satisfaction. Results indicated frequency of pornography use resulted in increased self-esteem for men and not for women. Findings also highlighted that acceptance of pornography resulted in decreased self-esteem for men but not for women. Results showed that acceptance of pornography use positively predicted sexual satisfaction for both men and women. Self-esteem as impacted by pornography was found to have no significant relationship with relationship satisfaction although sexual satisfaction was positively related to relationship satisfaction
