Hamartology and ecology: a critical assessment of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s view on the nature of sinCloete, Newton Millan January 2013 (has links)
Magister Theologiae - MTh / Contemporary ecological concerns are addressed in a wide range of disciplines, including Christian theology. This task is addressed especially in Christian ecotheology which may be approached from within all the traditional theological sub-disciplines. This research project will contribute to discourse in Christian systematic theology where various aspects of the Christian faith are revisited in the light of ecological concerns. One such aspect is the Christian doctrine of sin (hamartology) with specific reference to an understanding of the nature of sin. In ecotheology sin is re-described in various innovative ways, for example in terms of anthropocentrism, domination in the name of differences of species, consumerist
greed and the alienation of humans from the earth community. This project will investigate, more specifically, the contribution made by Dietrich Bonhoeffer to a Christian understanding of the nature of sin. The question that will be addressed here is how Bonhoeffer‟s positionmay be assessed in the light of contemporary Christian discourse on hamartology and ecology.

Bearing one’s cross: a critical analysis of Mary Grey’s view on atonementFestus, Heather January 2008 (has links)
Magister Theologiae - MTh / The aim of this research project was to seek a reinterpretation of the Christian motif of 'bearing one's cross'. This motif has been widely criticized by feminist theologians as an instrument that exacerbates the oppression of women, since it encourages self-sacrifice and in this way legitimizes abusive relationships. The research project focuses on Mary Grey's contribution to feminist discourse on atonement as the work of Christ and, more specifically, the symbol of the cross. In general, the problem, which will be addressed in this research project, is how oppressed women should respond to the call in Christian piety "to bear one's own cross". More specifically, the research problem, which will be investigated in this project, may be formulated in the following way: How should Mary Grey's position on a feminist reinterpretation of the doctrine of atonement and the meaning of the cross of Jesus Christ be assessed within the South African Christian context? The study assesses Mary Grey's views within the context of her own work, a feminist reinterpretation of the doctrine of atonement and the meaning of the cross of Jesus Christ in order to establish whether it is internally coherent

This dissertation consists of a novel, The Buddha on Page 13 and a dissertation of limited extent, "Buddhist symbolism and metaphoric, and the perception of sin, guilt and punishment in The Buddha on Page 13." In the dissertation of limited extent the role that guilt plays in the motivation of an individual's actions is investigated. The Christian and Buddhist views of sin are compared, and the conclusion is made that neither Christianity nor Buddhism can explain why mankind experiences the feeling of guilt. The central character, Toit Brink, finally accepts this "so-ness" of things: "thathatha". The dissertation explains how the style of the text wishes to be neutral, and how this neutrality is harnessed for Buddhist reasons. The Buddhist element in the novel's symbolism and metaphoric is illuminated, as well as the apparent contradiction of some of the metaphors. / Afrikaans and Theory of Literature / M.A. (Afrikaans)

On the Concept of Sin in the Theology of Liberation and Josiah Royce's The Problem of Christianity: Towards a Theo-Philosophical EthicsPratt, Aaron, Pratt, Aaron January 2012 (has links)
This essay proposes that theology and philosophy are not mutually exclusive or at odds with one another methodologically, but in fact that religious categories are useful in philosophical analyses, and particularly when it comes to ethics. In this essay, I examine the theological concept of sin as it is expressed in Latin American Liberation Theology (over and against the more traditional understanding of sin in Western Christianity) as the domination of the Other and the oppression of the poor through geo-political systems of power. I explore the responses to this notion from the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church, as well as my own critiques in terms of theoretical integrity with particular regard to claims of universalism. The essay then proceeds into a synthesis of these criticisms through the work of Josiah Royce on Community and Loyalty in

Previous issue date: 2014-06-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Their research sought to establish the relationship of influence of the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard on the theological construction of Paul Tillich. Therefore, we use as background or argumentative structure the concept of human despair Kierkegaard, comparing it to the concept of Transfer of being Tillich. We objectify it, demonstrate the dialogical intertwining compound in the development of so-called doctrine of sin in both authors. That is, as the unfolding of Kierkegaards anthropology problematized the foundations of systematic theology, especially in the matter of harmatiologia, and how this same questioning, was able to standardize the modus operandi that led to the drafting done by Tillich on the same subject. Obviously, that in the course of this research, are not intended to disqualify or eliminate the originality of the authors, nor turn their arguments into a kind of conceptual amalgam. Thus, before a review is supposed to have brought an arbitrary fusion of ideas seek, once again pointing solutions dialectical and common centers, pointing to those elements of convergence, where in fact, dialogue is possible.

[en] THE GODS IMAGE IN THE HUMAN BEING, ACCORDING TO EMIL BRUNNERS THEOLOGY: THE HUMAN BEING AS A RELATIONAL AND RESPONSIBLE IN THE FACE OF GOD / [pt] A IMAGEM DE DEUS NO SER HUMANO, SEGUNDO A TEOLOGIA DE EMIL BRUNNER: UM SER RELACIONAL E RESPONSÁVEL DIANTE DE DEUSJULIO CESAR DOS SANTOS 11 February 2010 (has links)
[en] The human being is clearly a being that stands out from other types of life
existing on earth. The Swiss theologian Emil Brunner understands this human
dignity differential from the theological comprehension that the human being was
created according to God`s Image. Even in the face of human evil, the human
being is recognized by the Christian theology as someone who is in relation with
God, for this reason he is responsible. These are two human characteristics that
Brunner sees traces of the God`s image in human existence. Because only a being
that is relational (i.e. subject and free) and responsible can be God`s interlocutor
and thus be able to receive and transmit the love that comes from God, But the
sinful human being lives badly its relationship and responsibility because it is in a
state of sin, which is rebellion and enmity against God. In Jesus Christ the human
being has restored its relationship and responsibility to God, the God`s Image is
restored to the situation that God wants. Thus, this dissertation deals of the
brunneriana`s theology in his understanding on God`s image in man before the
sin, the state of sin and over the light of Jesus Christ`s revelation.

The goal of this work is to analyze the human existential conflict that appears in the tension between the demands of an absolutized authority (Law) found in the psychoanalytic view and in the theological view in the representation of the father, superego, God and the sin as a theological and anthropological category, as a condition of every existence, and at the same time a voluntary act that makes it impossible to meet the legal expectations of a demanding authority. It highlights the classical manifestations of this conflict: the feeling of gilt, understood here as anguish of gilt, of the one who cannot meet the demands; and the pride understood as the idealization of the self, of the one who understands himself or herself as a person able to meet the expectations of the authority. Gilt and pride are factors of destruction of the human being according to the theological and psychoanalytic perspectives. In order to solve this conflict it wants to examine the image of Father that Jesus presents in his relationship with God. It understands that this representation, originated in forgiveness, is a paradigm in the relativization of the absolutized figure, in the surpassing of sin, for the notion of a new justice, for the healing of gilt and for a real image of the human being not based on pride.

As várias correntes religiosas,
constatação do sofrimento humano.
problema do mal e do sofrimento. Além disso, contextualizar o mal e o sofrimento no plano
a Bíblia.
Algumas dessas
cosmovisões têm assumido destaque no discurso teológico quando a questão do sofrimento é
abordada.
Human suffering has permeated and challenged the theology and related sciences in an
attempt to present a rational understanding of the problem of evil. The various religious
denominations, theological and philosophical object are considered in this study in an
attempt to condense a theoretical framework in the light of Scripture, is able to minimize the
conflicts that arise from the challenge of reconciling the concept of a loving God with the
unequivocal finding of human suffering. From a premise endorsed by the historic and
Reformed theology that God makes all things happen in the world and in people's lives, this
study aims to elucidate the question of evil and suffering, as well as presenting the potential
benefits that suffering can provide the individual. Seeks to present a biblical argument that
can contribute to respond to the problem of evil and suffering. Moreover, contextualizing the
evil and suffering in God's plan. The various religious and philosophical attempts to give a
plausible answer to the problem of suffering eventually create insurmountable barriers when
faced with the Bible. Worldviews misconceptions about God are strong resistance in the Bible
and contradict concepts solidified throughout the history of the church. Some of these
worldviews have assumed prominence in theological discourse when the question of suffering
is addressed. Although the more conservative discourse that sin is the cause of suffering he
does not explain all forms of suffering, nor the Bible accepts sin as one reason for suffering.
Can not see the suffering without regard for the ordeal. It is not intended to open space in this
research to compare the different lines on the theological understanding of God's plan, but to
present an understanding of how suffering fits into God's eternal plan.

Previous issue date: 2013-05-20 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico / Dopamine (DA) is known to regulate both sleep and memory formations, while sleep plays a critical role in the consolidation of different types of memories. We believe that pharmacological manipulation of dopaminergic pathways might disrupt the sleep-wake cycle, leading to mnemonic deficits, which can be observed in both behavioral and molecular levels. Therefore, here we investigated how systemic injections of haloperidol (0.3 mg/kg), immediately after training in dark and light periods, affects learning assessed in the novel object preference test (NOPT) in mice. We also investigated the hippocampal levels of the plasticity-related proteins Zif-268, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and phosphorylated Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases II (CaMKII-P) in non-exposed (na?ve), vehicle-injected controls and haloperidol-treated mice at 3, 6 and 12 hours after training in the light period. Haloperidol administration during the light period led to a subsequent impairment in the NOPT. In contrast, preference was not observed during the dark period neither in mice injected with haloperidol, nor in vehicle-injected animals. A partial increase of CaMKII-P in the hippocampal field CA3 of vehicle-injected mice was detected at 3h. Haloperidol-treated mice showed a significant decrease in the dentate gyrus of CaMKII-P levels at 3, 6 and 12h; of Zif-268 levels at 6h, and of BDNF levels at 12h after training. Since the mnemonic effects of haloperidol were only observed in the light period when animals tend to sleep, we suggest that these effects are related to REM sleep disruption after haloperidol injection / A dopamina (DA) regula tanto o sono quanto o processo de forma??o de mem?rias, enquanto o sono desempenha uma fun??o essencial na consolida??o de diferentes tipos de mem?rias.
