Prolo, Felipe January 2011 (has links)
The theme of this essay is the process of forming a collective of students from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, entitled Working Group on Affirmative Action (GTAA), which proposed to study and claim the implementation of the quota system, in modalities ethnic-racial and socioeconomic, at that university. The aim was to investigate this process, seeking factors that explain its occurrence in the context studied, involving individuals who participated, the historical period and the frame conditions of the institution that allowed its emergence. Combining theoretical proposals about the social action from the constitution of “projects” individual and collective and studies about collective action based on the notion of "political opportunity frames," the object of study was questioned to found what gave sustention to this organization. The conclusion arrived is that the agenda of quotas, less than its intrinsic content, was adopted by the group members as a way to assign meanings to their actions as graduates, given the availability found for this proposal, showing that are in the "social situations" that are produced the elements for the emergence of political actions that seek their transformations.

This investigation focused the decisive processes related to the administration of populations' presence, with focus in the restrictions to the use and access to the natural resources inside the Picinguaba Nucleus of the Serra do Mar State Park. The Situation Analysis was used to check Action Situations occurred between 2001 and 2009 considered more significant, in the point of view of the originating interactions game, especially of the positioning of the government actors and the residents in arena. It was concluded that the maintenance of resident populations in the Preservation Unit, even under Integral Protection regime, in Zones of special handling, Anthropologics Historical-Cultural denominated, does not prevent and can contribute with the biodiversity integrity, when these are included in the decisive process through participatory mechanisms, integrators and recognized as legitimate. These mechanisms were built in the scope of the Advisory Board based in the formulation of territorial zoning pacts and use agreements of the natural resources. The pacts could be concluded and have obtained larger success according to: the disposition that the actors presented in negotiating, the established reliable relationships and the arguments aggregated motivations. The proceeding residents' demands evolved along the period under investigation of basic needs related on access to the citizenship (right to infrastructure and public services, dwelling, alimentation and work) even the land titularity and larger autonomy in territory administration. Therefore, the pacts formulated always meant temporary accommodations to the moment conflicts, which would generate new needs to be assimilated to the platform of hit negotiation, through new bouts of negotiations. That implies in accepting that the conflicts, especially of territories use and natural resources, are not solvable, but generators of negotiation potential possibilities, directly related to government capacity installed in the place / Doutorado / Aspectos Sociais de Sustentabilidade e Conservação / Doutor em Ambiente e Sociedade

L'accompagnement spirituel dans l'action sociale : enquête menée au sein d'associations protestantes intervenant auprès de personnes en situation d'exclusion / Spiritual care in social action : survey carried out in protestant associations working with people in situations of exclusion

Marchand, Bertrand 25 June 2015 (has links)
This thesis in pratical theology considers the spiritual dimension of socially-excluded personswho benefit from protestant associations engaged in social action. The research isbased on interviews conducted among about thirty associations in metropolitan France. Itproposes a person-centered, non-confessionnal model of spiritual care adapted to the fieldof social action, and led by a team of caregivers. This non-confessionnal support is particularlyrelevant within protestant associations, considering the vocation of the Church tostand ‘alongside’ people in their vulnerability. It departs from traditional pastoral counselingand from social assistance. The model provides ways of facilitating the emergenceof a spirituality among people in situations of social exclusion, and tackles the training ofspiritual caregivers.

A Theatre for Change: Applying Community Based Drama Practices into Ontario Middle Schools

Harrison, Kiersten Rose January 2012 (has links)
Teachers have an undeniable influence on youth, on whose shoulders tomorrow rests. It is vital for teachers to be conscious of their role in both the local and global community in order to facilitate occasions for students to develop a sense of global consciousness. By imparting to students the desire to learn and to explore their interactions with things, people and experiences, and actively pursue knowledge, they develop critical literacy skills required to both acquire understanding and be(come) understood. Through this research study, the implications of applying David Diamond’s community drama work called Theatre for Living, as an effective and critical literacy practice to enhance social conciousness within a middle school, is assesssed. The program was implemented in a split grade 7/8 and grade 8 classroom in southwestern Ontario. The study exemplifies for educators a practical yet significant step for initializing and developing a broad sense of awareness in students; that is the sense of global consciousness.

"I am tattoo, tattoo is me" : A qualitative study about the meaning of tattoos for individuals and society.

Sjösten, Miranda, Sjögren, Josefin January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to seek an understanding of the individual perceptions of tattooed persons about the significance of their tattoos, as well as of tattoos on a general level. Furthermore, we intended to investigate how tattooed people perceive the surroundings' perceptions and attitudes based on the tattoos. The study has a qualitative approach with mainly an inductive approach, which, however, also includes some deductive elements. Furthermore, the study adopts idealism and constructivism as ontological positions with a hermeneutic and interpretivist epistemology. The collection of empirical material has been done through semi-structured interviews. Results in the study show that tattoos are a significant component of an individual's creation of identity which interacts with the individual's surroundings. The result also shows that the tattoos and their symbolism are linked to the individual's relationship to the environment and its role as a social being in which societal norms and perceptions are assigned and interpreted. Finally, the results show that tattoos and tattoos as an activity can reflect the contemporary society and its distinctive features.

The theology of radical evangelicalism

Hardmeier, Roland 31 May 2006 (has links)
Text in German / The present dissertation considers the historical and theological foundations of radical evangelicalism and puts it in the context of theologies which influenced it and are similar to it. It will be demonstrated that the evangelicals are enriched by radical evangelicalism - an evangelical basic concept with elements of anabaptism, the social gospel, liberation theology and the ecumencial theologies. Thus it will be demonstrated that radical theology is genuinely evangelical, yet is capable of overcoming the one sidedness of western evangelical theology. Special attention is given to the contributions of radicals from North America as well as from Latin America since they are of considerable importance to radical evangelicalism. The aim of the dissertation is to present radical evangelicalism, to critically evaluate it, and to make it profitable to the European evangelical scene. The first section names the sources from which radical theology flowed. The second section reviews the historical development of radical evangelicalism. It will be demonstrated that, in the thirty years of its existence, radical evangelicalism has become a significant factor within the worldwide evangelical movement. The third section presents the fundamental characteristics of radical theology within a selection of themes. It demonstrates that the radicals have confronted the evangelical movement with a transforming theory of mission, which shows itself to be relevant for today's pressing problems. The fourth section describes the social action of radical evangelicalism and demonstrates that the energetic theology of the radicals is in fact based on a compelling spirituality. The fifth section records the results of the investigation and presents conclusions for praxis and further theological study. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. Gender issues in management promotions in the health services: a Malawian perspective

Chirwa, Maureen Leah 28 February 2002 (has links)
This study sought to explore gender issues affecting management promotions in Malawi's health care services, utilising both qualitative and quantitative techniques in data collection and analysis. Promotion patterns were compared and contrasted for male and female managers. The study was based on the assumptions that • both men and women were aware of experiences that affected their promotion opportunities • promotion patterns showed fewer variations than did cultural, social and gender factors • male prejudices were maintained which oppressed women's promotions • increased decision-making power lowered stress about professional growth and development The findings supported the first two assumptions, but not the last two. The findings suggested that males and females encountered similar experiences concerning managerial promotions in Malawi's health care services. Factors that enhanced management successes for both males and females included management orientation and mentorship. Unclear promotion policies and procedures hindered management promotions. Information derived from this research could enable policy-makers to establish an environment that increases supportive networks and interactions between male and female managers in Malawi. Furthermore, to ensure equal opportunities in the health care services management, monitoring strategies by Malawi's Ministry of Gender, the Department of Human Resources Management and Development, and the Ministry of Health and Population need to be established and implemented. / Health Studies / D.Litt. et Phil.
