Murari, Luciana 17 May 2002 (has links)
This thesis aims to study the representation of nature in social thought and literature, from the last decades of the XIXth century to the first ones of the XXth, and its connections with the creation of a sense of modernity in Brazilian culture. Critique as historical practice: exploring the politics of emancipation

Browning, Andréa 31 December 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, I explore how the logic and mobilization of critique as an emancipatory practice, situated within various historical inheritances of the Enlightenment project, enable/delimit ‘Western’ political imaginations. I therefore question how discourses and practices of critique not only reproduce but become functional to that which they seek to transform. That is, through its conventional fault-finding role, how does critique regulate (un)acceptable ways of thinking? By resituating critique as integrally constitutive of our inheritances, rather than an exceptional instrument of correction or virtue, this methodological reorientation has the potential to foster explorations that are grounded within, as opposed to transcendentally outside, our complex sites of inheritances. In this way, it is an inquiry into the histories and politics of Western projects of emancipation and progress as captured by practices, methods, and subjects of critique within various influential traditions.

This research aims to discern what is the social thought about the racial issue in Brazil in the 1930s in José Lins do Rego‟s novels of the sugarcane cycle. Thus, we observe the narratives of the four prioritized works – Menino de Engenho (1932), Bangüê (1934), Usina (1936) and Fogo Morto (1943) – and what they say about the black characters. Therefore, in doing the narrative analysis, we believe in the possibility of literature as an element of understanding of Brazilian social reality during the period that the works were composed

The object of analysis of our reserarch is the Marxist Dependence Theory through Ruy Mauro Marini’s toughts, specially workforce superexploration category. Starting from the bibliographic recapture of the author’s work from 1966 to 1979 – when his principal formulations about the dependency problematics concentrates – wich deals with atrophied reprodution of the workforce, with the added value extraction ruled on the superexploration. Adopting Marx’s value theory, Marini seeks to respond why underdevelopment is the other pole of development in capitalist mode of production and how the value theory establishes its particularity in Latin America. Starting with this analysis, we walk through the following questions: I – Would developmentalism (and neodevelopmentalism) have conditions of achieving an economic development capable of promoting the disruption with structural dependency?; II – Did the neodevelopmentalism from 2000’s years make possible the overcome of underdevelopment and the subordination to the monopolist imperialism? Facing these questions we develop our hypothesis: the superexploration category explains the structural modality that caracterizes the dependent economies and configurates a mode os production that is exclusively founded in greater worker exploration to the detriment of the development of their productive capacity. In other words, this modality carries the bracing bettween the added value rate with premature exhaustion of the workforce, compromising their reproduction.

Brandão, Nilvanda Dantas 30 March 2012 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 4948519 bytes, checksum: b5333868c666e8d8e76fc9b1a1db6d64 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The objective of this work is to interpret the performance of José Américo de Almeida from a sociological viewpoint, in a context which comprises the period between the years 1920 and 1960. This period was marked by the modernization of industry, political and artistic transformations, and the shaping of Brazilian social thought. We have sought to highlight aspects of the writer s intellectual trajectory which signify contributions to the Social Sciences, expressed both through his writings and actions in the literary, political and scientific fields. The discussion has originated in the dialogue struck up between the interpreters of the National in the process of the institutionalization of Social Sciences in Brazil, and the intellectual from Paraíba, and involves the analysis of his works, including scientific texts, novels, autobiography, speeches, interviews, memoirs and letters, dealing with themes related to a modern, democratic Brazil where there is a mixture of races. The conclusion was reached that the contribution of José Américo towards the shaping of Brazilian social thought , in the scientific field, lies in his proposal of an anthrosociology, which defends positivities (creativity, resistance and diversity)in the mixed-race national identity, and its disassociation from social and economic backwardness. The lack of development is understood by him as the effect of the lack of a democratization of power and capital. This inspired his disclosure and social criticism in the novels, which have become his innovative contribution to the literary field In the political field his contribution is his idea of democracy. The theoretical and methodological foundation on which the present work is based is the theory of reflexivity of Pierre Bourdieu, highlighting the concepts of Field and Habitus. This research belongs to the ambit of studies of intellectual trajectories, more specifically, in the field of Brazilian social thought.
