Caracterização molecular de Echinococcus spp. em bovinos no Rio Grande do Sul e avaliação in vitro e ex vivo do óleo de Melaleuca alternifolia frente aos protoescóleces de Echinococcus ortleppi / Molecular characterization of Echinococcus spp. in cattle in Rio Grande do Sul and evaluation in vitro and ex vivo of Melaleuca alternifolia oil against to protoscoleces of Echinococcus ortleppi

Monteiro, Danieli Urach 04 March 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease caused by Echinococcus genus. The larval stage (hydatid cyst) of the parasite causes serious public health problems, and affects various species of animals, causing economic losses to the meat industry. This study aimed to identify samples of fertile hydatid cysts in cattle and characterize them molecularly, analyzing in vitro and ex vivo Melaleuca alternifolia oil activity (tea tree oil - TTO) and its formulation in nanoemulsion (NE-TTO) and saris an (terpinen 4-ol) front to protoscolices of Echinococcus spp. Two thousand three hundred and ninety-six samples with cysts derived from an abattoir in the central region of the RS were analyzed, where 295 samples were classified as hydatid cysts by the presence of protoscolices. In PCR reactions for the 12S gene, 251 positive samples were identified for the group of genotypes G5/G6/G7 (E. ortleppi/ E. canadensis) and 40 samples for the G1 genotype (E. granulosus sensu stricto). In PCR subsequently, 250 samples were positive for G5 (E. ortleppi) and one sample for G7 (E. canadensis). A sample (n=12) of PCR products using the region of cox I gene, which was sequenced and compared with samples deposited in Genbank. Phylogenetic analysis identified three distinct groups E1, E2 and E3, which were grouped in sequences with greater similarity. The organ most affected by echinococcosis in cattle was the lung. After confirming the fertility of the cyst, protoscolices were removed and evaluated for viability using eosin 0.1%. For in vitro testing, concentrations of 2.5, 5 and 10 mg/mL of TTO, 10mg/mL of NE-TTO and 1, 1.5 and 2 mg/mL of terpinen-4-ol were analyzed front to protoscolices of E. ortleppi previously identified, in times of 5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes. For ex vivo test, TTO 10mg/mL and 20mg/mL was injected directly into hydatid cysts of E. ortleppi (n = 20) at times of 5, 15 and 30 minutes, and for each time one aliquot of protoscolices was removed for feasibility detection and implementation of PCR to confirm the species involved in the parasitism. Results of this in vitro study showed the protoscolicidal effect of M. alternifolia in all tested formulations and concentrations. Terpinen-4-ol (2mg/mL) had a better action when compared with the highest concentration of pure oil (TTO 10mg/mL). Nanoemulsion formulations (10mg/mL) showed a good activity front to the protoscolices. In ex vivo analysis, TTO (20mg/mL) showed 100% protoscolicidal action in hydatid cyst in 15 minutes. This study is pioneer in Brazil in identifying the potent effect of protoscolicidal M. alternifolia front protoscolices of E. ortleppi, being this kind of Echinococcus genus responsible for most fertile hydatid cysts analyzed in cattle in RS.

Tee Tree Oil - Ett effektivt behandlingspreparat i tandvården?

Ahlcrona, Sara January 2011 (has links)

How technology transfer offices of public research institutions can contribute for the innovation results of the State of Sao Paulo: a case study of the institutes of the direct administration of the state

Teixeira, Luciana Akissue de Camargo 10 May 2018 (has links)
Innovation is one of the most important phenomena in economics and business today. In Brazil, a major milestone towards innovation was the publication of the innovation law, in 2004. At the State of Sao Paulo, a similar law was published in 2008. One important benefit brought by these laws is the creation of the Technology Transfer Offices - TTO. Despite the increasing interest in the study about TTO, there is a gap in study about its structure. Moreover, there is no study in Brazil about the implementation and management of TTO in public research institutions. So, this paper, through a qualitative study with multiple cases discuss about structuring TTO in public research institutions in order to these TTO positively impact the innovation results of the State of São Paulo. Regarding the structure of the TTO: sharing the office, through a central office and units; hybrid or semi-centralized structure; using existing research support foundations to manage financial resources and the TTO activities. The main areas identified for the TTO are: intellectual property, technology transfer or partnership, and legal advice. Other recommendations of the author to booster the innovations results of the State of São Paulo are: existence of an Innovation Policy to the State of São Paulo; the scientific institutions must do the strategic planning of their institutions in order to guide the researches that will be conducted at the institution; definition of the objectives to be achieved with the research, and implementation of a strategic management for Research and Development activities; the TTO activities must be aligned with the strategic planning of the research institution; alignment and engagement of legal bodies; it is desirable that the State promote the approximation of public research institutes with private enterprises; and is essential the existence of funding for innovation projects.

The Rise and Fall of the University of Toronto's Innovations Foundation: Lessons from Canadian Technology Transfer

Sigurdson, Kristjan 20 November 2013 (has links)
This study explains the rise and fall of the Innovations Foundation, the University of Toronto's first office dedicated to the transfer of university-developed technologies to industry. Drawing on extensive archival research, ten interviews with key informants, and other sources, the case study traces the evolution of the Foundation from its launch in 1980 to its closure in 2006. The study delineates three distinct business models under which the Foundation operated from 1980 to 1990, 1990 to 1999, and 1999 to 2006. The reasons for the adoption and failure of each model are explored and a historically grounded, context-sensitive explanation of the university's decision to dismantle the Foundation in 2006 is provided. This explanation emphasizes the importance of managing unrealistic expectations for Canadian university technology transfer, and adds weight to a growing consensus on the importance of historical path-dependence as a conceptual tool for understanding the persistence of differentials in technology transfer performance among universities.

Time Trade Off- metoden / Valuing health : A quantitative comparison between Person Trade Off and Time Trade Off

Wiss, Johanna, Kalkan, Almina January 2010 (has links)

One must consider cost effectiveness when deciding how resources within the health sector should be distributed. Quality adjusted life years (QALYs) are used to measure the value of different medical treatments. QALY is based on utility maximization theory, which suggests that a QALY is always a QALY regardless of who receives it. Therefore, a produced QALY is worth the same regardless of the age or the initial health of the patient. Previous research has shown that these assumptions do not seem to fit the real preferences of individuals. Further, there are different methods of acquiring QALYs that give different outcomes. Two of these methods are Time Trade Off (TTO), in which respondents are confronted with a valuation of health change in time, and Person Trade Off (PTO), where respondents are confronted with a valuation in persons. Arguably, PTO is the preferred method that takes greater account of how individuals wish to allocate the resources of the society. From a distribution perspective focusing on age and initial health status, this paper aims to empirically identify the differences between TTO and PTO considering the measurement of preferences for life quality. The aim is also to examine whether the results obtained are consistent with the theoretical assumptions that are required for the preference to be accepted as a cardinal utility. A quantitative survey was carried out with 58 medical and 61 economics students. Half of the students received PTO and the other half TTO questions. The data collected was analyzed comparing the methods, the two student groups and men against women.

The results from the survey show that, both with TTO and PTO, respondents on average believe that patients who are at a lower initial health level should be given priority over patients who are at a higher initial health level, and younger patients should be given priority over older patients. No significant differences were seen between PTO and TTO when it came to the age of the patient. Conversely, there was a significant difference between the methods for the valuation based on initial health status of patients. Measured with PTO a treatment for patients who are at a lower initial level is valued 28% higher than a treatment for those patients who are at a higher initial level, while the corresponding figure for TTO was 8%. Between medical students and economic students, there were significant differences in the question of age in the PTO. Between men and women differences were found in both methods.
/

No. of bitstreams: 1 3267.pdf: 3998722 bytes, checksum: 5c5655c026a695d92bfc0186d0eef186 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-08-16 / The objective of this study consisted of collecting and analyzing data with teachers of the various Academic Centers of UFSCar about their understanding of the term "innovation", knowledge of intellectual property policy in UFSCar, and the performance of its Innovation Agency. The Innovation Agency of UFSCar was established to meet the requirements of the Law of Innovation (10.973/04), which states in its Article 16 that every Science and Technology Institution (from the Portuguese acronym ICT) is expected to have a Technological Innovation Center (from the Portuguese acronym NIT) with the purpose of managing the innovation policy of the University. In practice, the NIT has the mission of managing all intellectual property generated by the ICT, encompassing the protection of intellectual property and technology transfer, and linking the University with businesses in order to boost technological innovation in Brazil. The methodology included a questionnaire as an instrument of data collection which consisted of open questions, multiple choice, marking scale. The questionnaire was divided into three main issues: 1) Innovation, 2) Domestic regulation UFSCar, and 3) Innovation Agency UFSCar. It was sent via e-mail to 935 teachers, 94 of whom responded to it. Thus, an overview on the perception of teachers on the theme of innovation, the internal rules of UFSCar and the Innovation Agency was obtained by the compilation of these data. The data analysis resulted in the development of a set of recommendations for structuring and operation of the Agency for innovation to be developed based on the perceptions of teachers, and this is the main contribution of the dissertation. The university technology transfer coach has an important role in supporting the commercialization of research results. This thesis has studied the technology transfer coach and their needs in the coaching process. The goal has been to investigate information needs of the technology transfer coach as a preliminary for the design of computer aids.Using a grounded theory approach, we interviewed 17 coaches working in the Swedish technology transfer environment. Extracted quotes from interviews were openly coded and categorized. The analysis show three main problem areas related to the information needs of the technology transfer coach; awareness, communication, and resources. Moreover, 20 features for future computer aids were extracted from the interview data and scenarios and personas where developed to exemplify the future use of computer aids.We conclude that there is a need for computer support in the coaching process. Such systems should aid the coach in; awareness, aiding the coach to focus on meetings; communication, aid the coach to transfer commercialisation knowledge; and resources, aid the coach in accessing and delivering of resources to the coachee. However, it is imperative that the computer aids do not interfere with the coach current process; and that the computer aid is not seen as the sole solution.
