A atividade de ensino de história: processo de formação de professores e alunos / The story of teaching activity: training process of teachers and students

Olavo Pereira Soares 24 June 2005 (has links)
The main goal of this research is to analyze and to propose a methodology for history teaching. Such methodology takes into account two specific characteristics of technological societies in the interrelationship with school practices: the media culture that both student and teacher bring along to school, and teachers continuing education process. Such methodology is intended to contribute towards a more meaningful teaching of History for both parties involved teachers and students in such a way that History becomes a more comprehensive tool in interpreting day-to-day events as well as a continuing education process. The research made it possible to elaborate a theoretical-methodological approach we called History teaching activity. The theoretical milestones upon which such approach is based are: Aléxis Leontiev´s theory of activity, which is part of the historic-cultural approach in psychology; the fundamentals of communication pedagogy and its didactic principle of a communication-oriented attitude; the research which analyzes the concepts of the investigative teacher and the researcher teacher; historiography which identifies itself with culture analysis in different periods in time. The theoretical-methodological references were used to analyze a set of four History teaching activities that took place along the years 1997 to 2000, in public and private schools in the city of São Paulo. The data of these classes were gathered by the researcher who then used the research-action methodological principles. The analysis of the data in the light of such theoretical-methodological principles made it possible for the researcher to show the principles that oriented the construction of History teaching activities. Such proposal was believed to be valid as well as its inclusion in the debate about history teaching.

Atividade docente no capitalismo: uma análise da produção acadêmica a partir da categoria trabalho

Oliveira, Maíra dos Santos 20 December 2013 (has links)
The research present have study object ´´the nature of the teaching activity performed in capitalism`` and has as its general objective: "to analyze the teaching activity carried on in the capitalist mode of production, from the work category, in order to verify how it is being discussed the nature of this activity in academic productions". This is a literature whose sources are secondary. Appropriates historical and dialectical materialism as a method, which involves asserting that reality is the starting point of the whole analysis. The chapters presented deal with the development of human sociality process whose central category is the work, the resulting changes to the capitalist mode of production, addressing two central categories to understand it today: productive and unproductive labor. Approach the nature of teaching activity from these categories and dialogue with the academic productions that deal with this theme and are available at the Bank of CAPES thesis. The research allows to characterize the teaching activity as a situated action in the list of secondary teleological positions; argue that although it is employed, the teacher is not productive worker, since it does not produce nor asset value, and assert that there is only one nature of teaching activity determinations suffering differentiated depending on the sphere to which it is subjected.

An investigation into parental involvements in the learning of mathematics : a case study involving grade 5 San learners and their parents

Hamukwaya, Shemunyenge Taleiko January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate and document parental involvement in a San community in Namibia over a period of two months. The emphasis was to investigate whether San parents in the Omusati region were involved in the learning of mathematics of their children. The learner participants were selected according to those who were open to sharing their ideas. An interpretive approach was used to collect and analyse data. The collected data was gathered from 9 participants (4 learners in grade 5 together with their parents, plus their mathematics teacher). Semi-structured interviews, parental contributions and home visit observations were the three tools that I used to collect data. The selected school is located in a rural area in the Omusati region of northern Namibia. The interviews were conducted in Oshiwambo (the participants‟ mother tongue) and translated into English and then analyzed. I discovered that the selected San parents were involved in some but limited school activities. The findings of this study emphasizes that illiteracy may be one of the contributing factors of low or non-involvement of parents among the San community. Other factors which I found caused parents not to assist their children with homework was parents spending much of their time at the local cuca shops during the day until late in the evenings. The study also highlights possible strategies that can be carried out by teachers to encourage parental involvement in school activities.

Perceptions of final-year students and subject librarians on the adequacy of library user education programmes at the University of Limpopo

Shai, Kgaogelo Samson January 2020 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (Information Studies)) -- University of Limpopo, 2020 / The purpose of the study was to investigate the perceptions of final-year students and subject librarians towards the adequacy of the structure and content of library user education programmes at the University of Limpopo (UL) library. Both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies were followed and a descriptive and phenomenological research designs respectively were also adopted for the study. The population for the study consisted of 260 final year students and eight (8) subject librarians, who were selected through systematic random sampling (students) and purposive sampling methods (subject librarians). Data were collected from students and subject librarians using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. An analysis of content for UL library website was also conducted to triangulate the results of the study. Quantitative and qualitative were analysed using excel spreadsheet and thematic analysis respectively. The final year students at the UL showed some positive perceptions and attitudes towards the library in general and to the adequacy of the content and structure of its user education programmes. They are of the opinion that library staff should commit to good customer care principles and regular delivery of user education programmes, and that user education programmes at the UL library should be a credit-bearing module/course for all first-level students in all four faculties. On the structure and content, the findings of the study revealed that the UL library provides user education programmes such as library orientation, bibliographic instruction, information literacy, on-on-one training, online interactive course, library guides and brochures with different content and for different library users. Website content analysis found subject LibGuides were used as platforms for advertising Bibliographic Instruction programmes. However, impediments experienced by subject librarians towards a comprehensive delivering of user education programmes at the UL library include insufficient time allocated to user education programmes, lack of venues to conduct user education sessions, inaccessibility of social media tools, LibGuides not going live, insubstantial partnerships between stakeholders (academics and students) and the v library staff, and low attendance of user education programmes by undergraduate students. The research recommends that there should be a credit-bearing and compulsory information literacy programme offered as part of the curriculum at first levels of study at the UL. Furthermore, library staff need to have a continuous engagement with both academic staff and students, and notify them about important events within the library. The library website should also be upload recorded online user education sessions which can be accessed by library users any time. The library management should also engage ICT to open the social media platforms as that is where most students prefer to interact. This can also be used to deliver user education programmes.

A simulation study of the effect of therapeutic horseback riding : a logistic regression approach

Pauw, Jeanette 11 1900 (has links)
Therapeutic horseback riding (THR) uses the horse as a therapeutic apparatus in physical and psychological therapy. This dissertation suggests a more appropriate technique for measuring the effect of THR. A research survey of the statistical methods used to determine the effect of THR was undertaken. Although researchers observed clinically meaningful change in several of the studies, this was not supported by statistical tests. A logistic regression approach is proposed as a solution to many of the problems experienced by researchers on THR. Since large THR related data sets are not available, data were simulated. Logistic regression and t-tests were used to analyse the same simulated data sets, and the results were compared. The advantages of the logistic regression approach are discussed. This statistical technique can be applied in any field where the therapeutic value of an intervention has to be proven scientifically. / Mathematical Sciences / M. Sc. (Statistics)

Jazyk SMS a francouzština jako cizí jazyk / Language of SMS and French as a foreign language

Vaňátko, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
in English with English title of the thesis: Language of SMS and French as a foreign language The central topic of the thesis is the language of short text messages (SMS) and/or the one of chat and their application in teaching of French as a foreign language (fr. abbreviation F.L.E., français langue étrangère). The aim is to answer the question so as to how to grasp linguo- didactically this modern sociolect of young users (not only) of French, typical of written communication via digital technologies, with the purpose of the purely practical use in the classes of French. Firstly, a linguistic description will be given in order to understand the mechanisms of the explored language code not only in French, but also partly in Czech and English, as well as the determination of the position of the SMS language as a socio-cultural phenomenon in the present-day French. The following research will be dealing with the identification and the analysis of the teaching activities using the SMS language found in approximately fifty text books of French intended for the learners of levels A1, A2, B1, B2. The next section offers the theoretical evaluation of the exploitability of the SMS language in the classes of French, having as a point of reference specialised works of didactics of foreign languages. An exploration of the teaching practices of education officers at a science centre in Pretoria, Gauteng Province

Bilankulu, Hasani Justice 16 November 2020 (has links)
Abstract in English, Tswana and Xitsonga / Education officers based at science centres and museums play a significant role in teaching the visiting learners science. However, little is known about their teaching practices at these centres. The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching practices of education officers when teaching science in a science centre environment. The focus of this study was on the education officers’ knowledge and instructional strategies used in teaching science at a science centre in Pretoria, Gauteng province. A qualitative case study approach was used. Data was collected from the three participating education officers using semi-structured interviews and observations. Data was analysed separately from each case using education officers’ knowledge framework guidance. The findings from this study indicate that although education officers have shown an adequate content knowledge in teaching science at the science centre their teaching method was teacher-centred and non-interactive and show-and-tell strategies were more common amongst the education officers. The study also revealed that education officers did not use their resources/exhibits effectively in teaching science. It is recommended in this study that intensive training of education officers is required before they can interact with the visiting learners. / Baokamedi ba thuto ba kwa mafelong a maranyane le dimusiamo ba tshameka karolo e e botlhokwa mo go ruteng barutwana ba ba etileng dithuto tsa maranyane.
