Azambuja, Letícia Erig Osório de 26 June 2010 (has links)

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The research objectives were stud the knowledge degree and acceptance of hemocomponents and hemoderivatives, fresh and stored, by Jehovah´s Witnesses, and also propose bioethical tools for any ethical and moral conflicts identified in their relationship with physicians and dentists. The method was the use of questionary research with 150 Jehovah's Witnesses who attend Kingdom Salons from Distrito Federal, Brazil. The questionnaires looked for questions like the socio-cultural aspects related to the use (or do not use) of hemocomponents and hemoderivatives by the researched, and also the health care professionals attitude face to the patient´s religion. As results: 74% believe that the use of blood causes more harm than benefits to health - this refusal foundation is specially biblical; 96% don't support hemocomponents, but 76% support hemoderivatives in specific situations, showing that particular understandings do exist; 80% feel morally offended with stored blood use and only 46% with fresh blood, confirming the religious interpretation that fresh products are in general more accepted; according to 83% of the researched, dentists do not ask about patients religion, against 72% of the physicians, setting up not enough concern about this aspect. Concerning all this, Jehovah´s Witnesses are seen by their moral stranger (in case, physicians and dentists) as the religious group that simply “do not use blood”. Although, several blood treatments are nowadays permitted. Although it doesn´t private then, under their free minded opinion, to refuse blood treatments. Their particular understandings frequently enlarges the blood prohibition list and, consequently, the number of moral conflicts, if we also take that physicians and dentists aren´t used to ask about patient´s religion in the clinical research.

A torre sob vigia: as Testemunhas de Jeová em São Paulo (1930-1954) / The tower under guard: Jehovah\'s Witnesses in São Paulo (1930-1954)

Castro, Eduardo Goes de 19 October 2007 (has links)
This study focuses on the action of the Jehovah\'s Witnesses, a North American millenary religious sect, in São Paulo, between 1930 and 1954. During Vargas and Dutra\'s governments, the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War, the Watchtower Society (\"Sociedade Torre de Vigia de Bíblias e Tratados\") - juridical name adopted in Brazil by the Jehovah\'s Witnesses - publications had been confiscated, its members had been arrested and the registry of activities had been exiled from the country between 1940 and 1947. Under various and contradictory claims, the Jehovah\'s Witnesses had been charged with advertising the nazism, fascism, anarchism and communism, based on the lack of rendering obligatory military service, lack of salutation of the national symbols, lack of blood transfusion and anticlergy proselytism, made everywhere in the city. Believing that they were the \"first missionaries\" on a superstitious Catholic reality, the Jehovah\'s Witnesses reissued in Brazil, from the twenties on, the same speech that was used by the English Puritan who settled America on the 17th century: they were the \"elected people\" by God on Earth and told they were here to struggle with the \"devilish\" and \"obscurantist\" organizations, such as the Catholic Church. Despite the narrowing between Brazilian and American relationship at the end of the thirties, our real entrance at the Second World War with the Allied and the checked help between both countries at the post-war period against the Communism, the Jehovah\'s Witnesses, a North American organization, had been chased in the country, maybe because they also reissued in Brazil the mythical rhetorical of the USA construction, in the defense of cult freedom and democratic system - different from the Brazilian Catholicism and undergrown. Based on these, we intend to see at which extent the judicial and political chasing against this religious organization, which had less than followers until 1947, found the echo on the benefits narrowing between the Catholic Church and the Brazilian states.

Cardoso, Andreia Filipa Soares Passos January 2008 (has links)

This work analyzes sociabilities at the Ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses Virtual Forum (Fórum Virtual Ex-Testemunhas de Jeová). This affective community was created in 2008 with the aim of fighting discrimination against former members of the religion. The forum is a space for the sharing of experiences, political organization and emotional support. The focus of this research is to understand the relationship between disfellowship, collective trauma, and stigma. Disfellowship is a process of social production of the moral indifference that operates through demonstrations of disdain, scorn, contact tabu, loathing, and public humilliations. Because they have been expelled from the religion, the disfellows have now their character, dignity and even their humanity contested. In order for us to better understand this process, we discuss important aspects of the history of this religion’s development, its relationships with fundamentalism and modernity, highlighting the doctrine of demonization of the individual autonomy seen as a reaction to a plural world, marked by uncertainties and continuous transformations. This work unravels the operation of an economy of punishments, which encompass legitimating symbolic order, and mechanisms of control, both internal (guilt and shame) and external (judicial tribunal, eitquette rules etc.). Our rationale is that the efficiency of the control systems depends on the union of institutional programs and the action. The consolidation of the religious moral order would be the result of rituals and social practices hierarchically routinized, but susceptible of being negotiated by the subjects involved. A type of moral grammar and certain affective competency would guarantee the social order not to become anomic. This research indicates that the affective community enables the elaboration of a more positive self-image of the disfellows, based on new moral, emotional, and cognitive frames. They would start to play a more active role related to their own emotions and notions of morality, which end up by acquiring an important political dimension.

The group has positioned itself ideologically against the Nazi Party's proposals, and did so adamantly, that became the subject of an intensity of persecution proportionally higher than the other persecuted religious groups and banned by the regime, as will be shown. The research will examine the emergence and development of the group, emphasizing the establishment of the doctrines that made possible confrontation. Also it will examine the development of Nazi ideology in ways that opposed the position expressed by the group. About the Nazi party, it will still be analyzed as he himself being a religion. The strategies for survival adopted by other groups will also be studied for contextualization purposes. Finally, some illustrative facts of the conflict itself will be presented and analyzed, as a demonstration of the materialization of the ideological conflict. Although Jehovah's Witnesses have been studied in other ways, it is possible to see that the conflict of this group with the Nazi Party has been little studied in Brazil, perhaps because of being a small group in Germany in the period treated by this research. And when mentioned, it is usually under an aspect eminently historic. The purpose of this work is to identify the ideological causes of the conflict / O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o confronto ocorrido entre o Partido Nazista alemão e o grupo religioso Testemunhas de Jeová, chamados na época de Bibelforschers (Estudantes da Bíblia). O propósito deste trabalho é identificar e analisar as causas ideológicas do conflito

This is the place where all the preaching work is organized and publications are translated, printed and distributed for free during the preaching process. As a central character, the bethelite provided all the necessary content to our research. His daily experience was widely considered in the analisys from the subject behavior inside the total instituitions, within the same proportion in which we assessed theorical basis of understanding the faith experience and its deployment Michel Foucault and Erving Goffman offered support hermeneutic for understanding the religious discourse in Bethelite behavior. This was the analysis and understanding of religious experience in everyday life level, in their practices and contradictions, within the context of the headquarters of Jehovah‘s Witnesses in Brazil. The project aimed to answer the following problem: what is observed in Bethel can be described as alienation and domestication of behavior or as a conscious and sincere desire for inner discipline and collaboration in the production of all materials used in the ―preaching‖ of Jehovah's Witnesses?

Also notes how the belief in the virtue and moral superiority of this religious group is fundamental to the cohesion and submission to the rules established by it. Thus, points out that feelings of shame and guilt, imposed by social exclusion, would boost the return of some church disfellowshipped. The fact that they are generally isolated would therefore be another reason for its weakness as a group, as well as create a stigmatized self-image. Furthermore, evidence shows that new communication technologies, made possible by the internet, this has decreased the size and isolation distance between them which reinforces elisiana idea that the balance of power is not static.

Religion and citizenship are terms full of meanings in our society. In this direction, this work has as an aim to comprehend the conception of citizenship of Jehovah’s Witnesses’, a religious group that from a peculiar view of world, besides making a distinction between the members of Jehovah’s Organization and the other members of the society, it considers that the current rules in the first one are superior to the laws that are held in the second one. So, all the choices made by the members of this organization occur from this understanding, which results in an exercise of citizenship, framed by religious convictions, such as conceived by it, in consequence of peculiar biblical comprehension. In order to attend the proposed study, some considerations about the history of the movement are initially made, followed by an approach about some aspects related to the view of world, deliberations about the process of formation of Kingdom of God's citizens and at last, some considerations about the conception of citizenship of these religious people.
