Travestis e prisões: a experiência social e a materialidade do sexo e do gênero sob o lusco-fusco do cárcere

Ferreira, Guilherme Gomes January 2014 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 000454061-Texto+Completo-0.pdf: 1961990 bytes, checksum: 2b6172d47aacd5fbe88007ea73aa9023 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014 / The presente text discusses about the social experiences of the travestis in prison, having as background the Central Prison of Porto Alegre. This analysis used the fundamentals of the dialectical materialism and feminist grounds (especially the intersectional one), queer theory and critical criminology, toward a marxist queer perspective. Studying the social experiences of the travesti population in prison implies to recognize the presence of denied rights and non-responded needs, since it is known that the gender identities, which are different from the ones recognized as consistent with a sex/gender binary system, are historically repressed and scrutinized by the ideological apparatuses of the Estate, especially the ones attached to the criminal justice system. It was used, ass a qualitative nature methodology, the bibliographic and document research used to accomplish the theoretical study of the theme, the non-structured interviews through oral history technique applied to subjects and participant observation using a field diary. The interviews were performed with a focal group of twelve prisoner travestis and two male partners of theirs; individual interviews with one prisoner homosexual man, three travestis who have experienced prison and four prison employees, totalizing 22 investigation subjects. The oral history appears as technique in the non-structured interviews and focal group through a script of guided topics. As for the participant observation, the script developed embodied the field diary. The interpretation of the data was attained by discursive textual analysis. It was possible to consider that the arrest of the travestis give the prison distinct patterns of control over bodies, not experienced so far, which the prison experience become an instrument for deepening of the violence suffered in daily life. It occurs due to the criminal justice selective system consider as social markers race/ethnicity and social class, or in other words, determinations that put them previously socially vulnerable. The creation of a specific room, thus, is a way of confronting collectively organized by the travestis according to their interests for more institutional protection. On the other hand, this same kind of protection also oppresses the travestis in the most perverse ways, such as the non-access to education and work inside the prison system; their relationships with other prisoners and the institutional transphobia; the determined behavior patterns; the poor access to health; the family abandonment; the criminal control.

Lomando, Eduardo Marodin January 2014 (has links)
In view of the recent discussions about gender and sex diversity in Brazil, transsexualities have been the focus of academic development and a subject in the media. In spite of still being placed as abject, their conjugalities are an example of a displacement. The goal was to comprehend what are the constitutional processes of this transsexual conjugalities and how they are lived within these relationships. In order to come closer of these processes, this Thesis is divided in four articles. In the first one, the transsexuality concept is dissertated in four scientific knowledge areas: biology, medicine, psychoanalyses and social sciences. The concept is explained from issues regarding anatomy, genetics, brain differences, phallic-oedipal theory, psychopathology, sex as a discursive concept, gender as performative and as a diversity expression in opposition with the heteronorm. In the second article, a systematic review was done in relation to the transsexual conjugalities theme based on empirical evidence. Conjugal aspects were divided into the following categories: sexual activity, arousal and orientation; couples’ sexual challenges; gender roles and couples’ relationship challenges. There was an increase in the complexity of the conceptualization of this conjugal diversity. In the third article, the same theme was only revised in Brazilian publications, and the travestilidades theme was added. The results of the papers found show a variety of forms to denominate these partnerships, with an apparent conjugal emotional fusion that works as a maintainer the participants’ gender identities. However, there are creative responses that allow an interruption in the halo effect between gender identity and sexual desire and lead to identity autonomy and to pleasure. In the last article, three interviews were made with transsexual man and women and their cisgender partners. They were analyzed using the Gender Studies (Queer and post-structuralism studies). The results show that the transsexual conjugalities described are another territory that put into tension and defy gender norms and make flexible outcomes possible, not directed to any of the heteronorm extremes. This specific configuration may destabilize this tension and enable alternative directions to the binary logic mainly in the fields of sexual performativities, household tasks sharing and the relationship with family of origins.

Salvador, Jaqueline January 2014 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the impact of sex reassignment surgery in four dimensions of life of male to female transsexuals who were follow up by PROTIG after two postoperative years. Satisfaction in relation to sex reassignment surgery, sex, relationships with partners and family relationships was assessed. The study subjects were interviewed by the PROTIG team. The study included 52 MPF transsexuals who underwent surgery between 2000 and 2008 (mean 3.8 ± 1.7 years post surgery) who responded to a structured questionnaire before and after surgery. The results showed that no patient regretted to undergo sex reassignment surgery. After surgery, most patients (88.61%) reported that sexual relations had improved. Sex with the neovagina was considered enjoyable for 88.46% and 78.84% of patients reported that maintain and / or start a relationship has become easier after surgery. The number of patients with partners increased from 51.93% to 65.38%. There were no reports of damage in relations with family members after sex reassignment surgery and 29 participants (56.77%) reported improvement in family relationships, while 23 (44.23%) reported no difference.

Guaranha, Camila January 2014 (has links)
The main goal of this article is to have a better understanding on how the policies of health care are being used and how they have been taking place on a daily basis for transsexual, transgender, and transvestite people considering the existing health care policies and the many challenges that transvestism and/or transsexualism/transgenderism represents to them. From an ethnographic approach, and using concepts from the fields of public health and sex and gender relations, articulating those concepts with intersectional issues, portraits of transvestites and transsexual/transgender people were analyzed regarding their access and use of the services provided by SUS (Sistema Único de Saúde), the Brazilian universal health care system. Also, the conceiving ideas that promote health care policies for transvestites and transsexual/transgender people at SUS were analyzed, as well as the practices adopted by the workers of health care providers towards this population. From this study, it became evident that transvestites and transgender/transsexual people's path in the health care system in Brazil (SUS) is marked by discrimination and prejudice, facts that express the high levels of institutionalized transphobia present in the health care service providers. Moreover, it was noticed that the health care action programs intended for the trans population, promoted by health care policies, such as the use of the social name and the expanding of the transsexual procedures, are still in need of institutionalization. It was also verified that the health action programs for the transvestite/transsexual/transgender population have been prioritized only at the specialized care level (clinic and hospital levels), but few investment has been made at primary care level. At last, it was noticed that the accomplishment of the programs and health care policies happen from the encounter between the users and the providers, being of bottom line importance the last group to have training, so that the access to health care be welcoming and humanized.

This work attempt to investigate how the body modifications done by the subjects of the transsexualities can give a different meaning to the correspondence among sex, gender, sexual orientacion and desire, being able to generate new matrixes of intelligibility from the identities and multiple strategies used by crossdressers, drag queens, travestities and transexuals. For this, the we made the research using the participant observation and semi-structured interview technique in spaces of sociability of transexualities on downtown Recife. Moreover, we collate some medical, psychoanalytical, and human sciences theories with empirical data collected. After that we have a brief theorical passage through the sex, gender, body, sexuality, speech and subjectivity's conceptions that take us to discussions about representations and performance, setting up the basis of a transexualities experience.

The socio-discursive representations of Tereza Brant are a social problem, because she identifies herself as a woman, however, she presents herself in a masculinized body: short hair, beard, broad shoulders, strong arms, virile. Our objectives were to understand how this "different" body would be represented and identified by the digital media practices, how the readers of these media texts would react discursively to the theme and the issues of gender/ body/ sexuality involved in them. This study presents a qualitative and interpretative methodological model that has as its main empirical material texts, is, therefore, a documentary research. This model dialogues with other social theories and methods to analyze texts as elements of the social process, being thus transdiciplinar. In this way, the discussions started with the contributions of Queer and the sociological debates about the body and the media. This research is linked to the Textually Oriented Discourse Analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001, 2003) as a form of explanatory criticism. The corpus consists of nine digital journalistic texts, which deal with the performatization of the body of Tereza Brant, in the period between 2013 and 2014, without authorship identified. These texts were the result of an online search, based on the search for the keywords "Tereza Brant". The temporal delimitation was due to the search for media practices that contemplated the moment in which Tereza appeared in the media. For the textually oriented discursive analysis, the categories of Identifying and Representational Meanings (FAIRCLOUGH, 2003) were applied. In all the texts it is remarkable the attempt to frame Tereza in some model, in order to be possible a normalization of this body, on which the status of celebrity directs the representations. There is, in the discourses of media practices, an attempt to frame it in a heterosexual gender pattern. Otherwise, Tereza's identities are represented by herself as a process, a movement of continuous transformation that is not essentially applied to the physical body. Their identification of themselves is much less related to the look of the other and to the appearance, but to the affective issues. Discursive reactions say a lot about the relationship between society and the issues of gender and LGBT as a whole, the analyzed samples pointed to an intolerant and prejudiced view, based mainly on conservative discourses. We believe that it is up to the media practices to relativize hegemonies, to enable new perspectives for this marginalized body, to deal with this sensitive issue in order to promote respect and inclusion in a more solidary way.

The present research focuses on people who had their bodies assigned as females at birth, but who see themselves as having male gender identity, and are present in public spaces in the Metropolitan Region of Recife- RMR. It delas with a range of individuals with a diversity of class, race, gender experience and sexuality/ class, race, gender experience and diverse sexualities. To Interact with these people, partnerships were made with human rights, health and educational institutions. An analysis of the senses and meanings constructed on health, body, gender and rights, focusing on challenges for recognition as men in society, was carried out using the base of narratives odf participants in the research.. Some participants in the research identify themselves as transsexual males (trans), and others who use other terms, like (boys). These terms indicate roughly an insertion in different social groups: homens(boys) are identified as belonging to popular classes, and most homens(trans) identify themselves as belonging to middle classes. The methodolical strategy to attain the objectives and address the issues presented in this study were: literature review, document analysis, as well as ethnographic procedures including semi-structured interviews, oral history, participant observation, all registered in field diaries. The formal interviews were done with 15 (trans) men, 6 (boys) men, 3 transactivists militants and 5 professionals. There are common experiences between the two profiles of participants concerning the gender transition: the processes of self-identification and self-definition as men, resulting from their inadequacy with the socio-cultural markers for females. Affective-sexual relationships and conjugalities are important in this process, and above all, the feeling of being a man; and having faced different types of stigma; and the ways to signify their body and their desire to „masculinizie‟ it. Almost all wish to perform a mastectomy and, when possible, in different degrees, wish to develop and build their bodies and subjectivities and ensure the recognition of their rights. Despite the common experiences, differences crucial to the achievement of their life projects were perceived, especially with respect to the socio-economic and cultural context in which these individuals frequent. Information about male transsexuality still has poor visibility, generally being restricted to university environments, to research in the area of gender and sexuality, to LGBT and (trans)activism, among other limited spaces. Knowledge about male transsexuality and related issues, such as rights to health and social name, can be facilitated by a certain cultural capital, referring to middle and upper classes. Many homens(boys) remain on the fringe of these rights, and this contributes to the creation of other ways to achieve recognition and to search for rights by them. Of course, for both groups, there are several challenges to achieve this social and legal recognition: pathologization of (trans) identities; cissexism / transphobia / misogyny that they suffer, that often can be accompanied by racism / homophobia and other oppressions. Furthermore the current political and social scene is violent and harmful to people who are transitioning gender.
