The data were analysed using the method of thematic analysis. Several factors emerged from the analysis, some of which are common in domestic violence victims in general and others are characteristic for victims in same-sex relationships. These are specific barriers in the help-seeking process related to victims' non- heterosexual orientation and to the fact that they experienced domestic violence in a same-sex relationship. Stanbury, Claire 14 February 2007 (has links)
Student Number : 0009222T - MA research report - School of Human and Community Development - Faculty of Humanities / The aim of this exploratory study was to determine whether victims of crime who have encountered face-to-face interventions with lay counsellors, perceive these interventions as helpful, hindering or having no effect on their ability to cope after a traumatic incident. Five participants were selected for this qualitative study. A semi-structured interview schedule was constructed by the researcher to guide the interview process and thematic content analysis was used to analyse the data. The main emergent themes related to symptoms experienced by participants, time, victim support centres, perceptions of lay counsellors, short-term interventions, the model used and the participants overall perceptions of the services rendered by lay counsellors. Although the results were too varied to conclude the perceived effectiveness of interventions, the results are invaluable in gaining an in-depth understanding of the perceived impact of the services rendered by lay counsellors and what factors influence these perceptions.

Semerádová, Jana January 2021 (has links)
Secondary Victimization of Victims by Criminal Proceedings Abstract The submitted diploma thesis deals with the issue of secondary victimization in the context of criminal proceedings. The main goal of this work is to evaluate whether effective legislation provides victims with protection against secondary harm. Based on the theoretical basis of the issue of secondary victimization, the thesis also focuses on finding out whether the legislation adequately reflects the current victimological and psychological knowledge in the field of secondary victimization and secondary harm. The work is divided into three chapters. The first part deals with the basic conceptual issues of secondary victimization in a broader context. Emphasis is placed on the transformation of the victim's position in criminal proceedings within the historical development of victimology as an independent field. The terminological and interpretive shortcomings of the concept of victimization are also emphasized. The second chapter discusses secondary victimization as a victimological phenomenon. In addition to defining the concept of secondary victimization, attention is paid to the causes of secondary victimization, its sources and types of actions leading to secondary harm. Mrázková, Martina January 2022 (has links)
Compensation to crime victims Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of compensation to crime victims, specifically compensation provided by the state, whether under the name of financial assistance or compensation. One of the aims of the thesis was to subject the current legislation to a critical analysis and point out its possible imperfections. I also addressed the question of whether effective legislation succeeds in achieving the objectives set, namely the protection of the victim, the determination of clear conditions for the provision of compensation by the state and facilitating the victim's position in obtaining information and applying for financial assistance. Finally, the sub-objective was also to formulate de lege ferenda proposals that would help resolve the ambiguities and inaccuracies of the current legislation. The whole work is divided into five parts, including the introduction and conclusion. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical definition of the key institutes necessary to understand the issue. Here I elaborate on the concepts of victimology and related victim facilitation, victimization and provide an overview of the most common typologies of victims. The second chapter introduces the reader to the key concept of crime victims, both from a victimological point of...

Perceptions of Elementary School Teachers, Counselors, and PrincipalsAbout Bullying at Two School Sites in Utah and Mexico

Villar, Bernardo 10 July 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Bullying is a serious issue that exists not only in the United States but in other countries as well. There are significant, and often devastating, implications for both the bully and the victim. This research focused on the perspectives of teachers, principals, and counselors related to bullying in two elementary schools in Utah and Mexico. Through semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions and archival records, this qualitative study explored different perspectives on bullying found in two schools exhibiting approximately the same student and teacher demographics. Interviews with teachers, counselors and principals allowed for comparison of differences and similarities between both locations. Consistent themes developed throughout the study regarding the issue of bullying and how it was addressed differently at each site. Many of these differences stemmed from three main elements. The main elements that emerged were the contrast in training that was provided to teachers, the role of the principal, and the support for educators practicing the strategies they were taught. In addition, differences were also found in the understanding of the law and policies surrounding bullying.

National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) members were invited to participate through their NSNA member email addresses. Inclusion criteria: being a prelicensure registered nursing student aged 18 and over, ability to read and write English, and participation in a clinical nursing experience. Participants completed an anonymous online survey: electronic consent form, demographic sheet, Incivility in Nursing Education-Revised (INR-E) survey, and Ways of Coping (Revised)* Questionnaire. East Tennessee State University Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved this study. Data analysis: descriptive statistics and the Kruskal-Wallis Test (K-W). Results: Surveys returned-990; Complete and analyzed-373; Narrative response to the optional qualitative question-286. Limitations: convenience sampling; sample bias and lack of equal student group representation due to self-enrollment; and results are not generalizable. Conclusions: Nursing faculty are the main cause of academic incivility followed by university staff, clinical preceptors, and peers. All nurses need incivility education.

How about NO! : Learning with Medusa

Mittal, Antara January 2022 (has links)
This thesis report explores and talks about my different experiences, thoughts, ideas, designs and field trips that I took in order to make my project happen. For my project, I created a 3D graphic book and I wanted to educate, empower and start conversations with young teen girls in India about consent and victim blaming through it. I have explored how to talk about a serious topic such as rape without triggering people, given a detailed insight as to how I discovered my visual style for my book, explored how people in India react to my project, sex education level taught in India, collaborated with different people in Sweden and India that helped make my project work and used a metaphorical story of Medusa to communicate my message.
