[en] LIKE TO WALK AMONG RUINS OR FRAGMENTARY: WHERE STAIN AND LINE ARE CONFUSED / [pt] GOSTO DE CAMINHAR NAS RUÍNAS OU FRAGMENTÁRIO: ONDE MANCHA E LINHA SE CONFUNDEM

OMAR FERNANDES BRAGA SALOMAO 17 January 2019 (has links)
[en] The thesis is an attempt to explore ways of investigating the poetic word that allowed their release of strict formats, such as the process initiated by: Un Coup de Dés Jamais N Abolira Le Hasard from Mallarmé; the notion that Harold of Campos rescues from the poet-calligrapher, from the thought of the total book, the book as an object; and the aesthetic of ruins identified by Walter Benjamin in the german baroque. The field of investigation is that of poetic-visual experiences that interrupt, create displacements or obstructions in the language: stains, infiltrations, joints, traces, ruins, scars, collages and erasures –– poetic procedures to permeate the unprecedented, the tacit, layers and gaps in the poem object. Analysis of three cases that balance on the threshold of poetic and plastic –– Waly Salomão and his Babilaques; Edgard Braga and his visual poems; and Mira Schendel and her monotipes. The writing of the dissertation was worked in the form of essays and fragments, bringing photos and imagesremnants of notebooks and works done by me throughout the master s process. They are images that seek to activate other senses, without explanatory, expository or informative obligation, but with a direct and risomatic relation with this research.

Tipografia expressiva : Augusto de Campos e os desenhos da poesia / Expressive tipography : Augusto de Campos and the draws of poetry

Marques, Marcelo Ferreira 24 November 2008 (has links)
This research aims to map some of the ways letters design become structural constituent, by means of an expressive use of printing configuration, that is, through a skillful arrangement of printing elements, and, sometimes, by the determiners from Augusto de Campos s expressiveness of poems. To accomplish this study, it is relevant to do, before the analysis, a historical-conceptual contextualized path of printing as well as its implications with the ideogram conception, understood according to Ernest Fenollosa, via Ezra Pound. This printing route is found in Augusto s work from his first books (we can call this production as pre-concrete) to his definitely concrete poems, reaching his most recent production, which allows us a coherent glimpse and, at the same time, a rare mobility on Brazilian literature.

This doctoral dissertation tries to prove the hypothesis that Neoconcretism and Process Poetry, Brazilian artistic and poetic movements, introduced aesthetic concepts capable of justifying a critical approach to electronic poetry. This approach is based on identifying three fundamental common points between the aforementioned movements and electronic poems: the encounter between the verbal and visual signs in poetry, the physical body of the viewer as agent in aesthetic fruition and the reader´s participation in the creating poetic process. The theoretical research was carried out through the analysis of some Brazilian and Portuguese electronic poems. From this perspective, we attempted to investigate the relationships between the poetic experiences with electronic visual poems which represent the European avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century and the post-concretists movements in Brazil, more precisely Neoconcretism and and Process Poetry. The corpus is made up by some electronics poetic experiences created by Erthos Albino de Souza, Fernando Nabais, Giselle Beiguelman, and Rui Torres.

This study presents a historical retrospective of experimental poetry that comprehends the period from Ancient Greece to present production, focusing on the main artistic and poetic movements of the 20th century, among them the most recent ones, which utilize electronic and digital technologies. Through the application of the semiotical theory, especially Charles S. Peirce¿s theory, it attempts to interpret some fundaments of experimental poetry and, afterwards, going into the theory of intersemiotical translation, developed by Julio Plaza. Based on this theory along with fundaments of the theory of information, the study aims to analyse the dynamics of the processes in which visual and verbal poems made in conventional media (print) have been translated into new technologies / Mestrado / Multimeios / Mestre em Multimeios

Vizuální poezie v síti mezinárodní komunikace. Pojmy, kategorie, typologie / Visual Poetry in the Network of the International Communication. Terms, Categories, Typology

Krátká, Eva January 2013 (has links)
The doctoral thesis is concerned diachronically with the term "visual poetry". The focus is on its progress during the period after the Second World War in the context of the extensively advanced movement, as substantially defined in international expert discussion. The use of the term, which is supported by the arguments of many theoreticians and artists of the period, is studied in the thesis from the viewpoint of the inspirational sources and specific contacts between art and literature. The focus is on the specific positions and strategies of visual perception. Visual poetry is studied - considering the different contexts of the European avant-garde movements and through the analysis of contemporaneous theories which defined three main lines of thought - as an incoherent art stream manifesting itself in the eclectic use of artistic media. In conclusion, the thesis looks at the project of Czech author poetics typology which grew from purely Czech examples based on formal language of the visual poetry works. The thesis seeks to point out the original aspects of the internal discussion of visual poetry, and to place it in the international context.

Papantoniou Nowak, Stéphane 23 February 2018 (has links)
This doctoral thesis offers to study poetic practices in and out of the book from poets’ itineraries published by the Al Dante publishing house. The thesis is questioning the performance's notion, most often reduced to its scenic's dimension, but also the avant-garde's idea, too often limited to a political history which has ended. The avant-garde notion doesn't appear anymore as the element structuring the group but as an acting spectrality, leading to mix political issues - criticism of the institutions, criticism of the dominant language, challenges the places assigned by culture - with aesthetic issues. It is therefore a question of poetic translation as actualization of the political situation, and of transmediation. The stylistic approach has been gradually supplanted by a mediological approach to problematize heterogeneous practices. The Al Dante publishing house specificities allow us to see the book in a more general poetic ecosystem, where the book is no longer the only purpose, but the mediation between a process of creation and public events. So we can read this contemporary moment not only as the emergence of dominant themes, but also as a crisis of the book’s centrality and its economy. The Al Dante publishing house practices has led us to defend a theory of “editorial gesture” that cannot be reduced to the layout of manuscript or the production of a book and its marketing, but sometimes leads to the creation of books that didn’t find an editorial space. To push the boundaries of edition, to think the specificity poetry-action’s book is raising paradoxes: the disintegration of the linearity of the speeches, the reconfiguration of the page’s space, the specific adaptation of the books forms and fonts. These practices concern the book’s performative dimension. So it participates in a renewed way to a "typographic performance".

La poésie graphique : Christian Dotremont, Roland Giguère, Henri Michaux et Jérôme Peignot / Graphic poetry : Christian Dotremont, Roland Giguère, Henri Michaux and Jérôme Peignot

Pelard, Emmanuelle 01 March 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to define a type of modern visual poetry (20th – 21st), that we called graphic poetry. The graphic poetry focuses on a plastic and visual experimentation of the graphic sign, demonstrates an important conscience of the visual potential of the written form and tries to produce poetry in the materiality of the writing shapes. The graphic poetry refers to a practice of poem which is specifically graphic and includes a painting of the sign as a typographic work of the letter in order to produce the poem. This artistic practice of poetry follows and also renews the poetic and plastic avant-gardes of the 20th century, more particularly surrealism. Christian Dotremont’s logograms, Roland Giguère’s artists’ books (Editions Erta) and prints-poems, Henri Michaux’s anthologies of invented painted signs and Jérôme Peignot’s typoems are some forms of graphic poetry. Our study focuses on francophone works, which come from Belgian, French and Quebec fields, published between 1950 and 2004. Three characteristics mainly define the graphic poetry : the ambiguity and the nomadism of the sign in relation to the semiotic systems (graphic, iconic and plastic), graphics rhythm and lyricism, as modalities of the expression of the subject in the graphic material, and a questioning of the distinction between autographic arts and allographic arts, requiring new ways of perception and reading of the poem and the book, that we called visual-reading and touch-reading.

Mate, Gissela 11 1900 (has links)
Reading is frequently associated in modernity with a mental practice seeking to acquire knowledge and information. Nevertheless, this way of conceiving reading as an act focused mainly on intellectuality conceals a vast tradition of bodily reading practiced from late Antiquity up to the end of the medieval period. This dissertation thus aims to examine the historical rupture between the body and the reading process underlying the emergence of our modern way of reading, which emphasizes the sense of sight and purely intellectual functions. This research is grounded on theoretical studies of the history of reading, as well as on a broad reflection on knowledge emanating from the body, and thus proposes recovering a reading model associated with synesthetic practice. To accomplish this task, this study seeks to integrate historical, analytical and practical perspectives as a way to discuss and enact a reading method conscious of the body's existence; the role of the body in the act of reading is part and parcel of the dissertation’s dynamic. The analysis of Brazilian Concrete Poetry allows for achieving two objectives at once: first, a characterization of this poetic movement, considered exemplary of visual poetry, corroborates the singular importance of sight in the history of reading in modernity. In addition, however, working with the Concrete Poetry offers a tangible demonstration of the body’s force in the context of interactive reading. In other words, in endorsing an understanding of reading based on practice, the dissertation strives to show how the act of reading implies the irrepressible presence of the body.
