Page builders är insticksmoduler till Wordpress, dessa blir ett allt mer populärt verktyg inom webbutveckling. De används idag av både frilansande designers och webbyråer som vill öka sin kostnadseffektivitet, men även av sådana som inte har någon erfarenhet alls inom webbutveckling. Syftet med denna typ av insticksmoduler är att förse användaren med de verktyg som behövs för att grafiskt skapa en webbsida. Detta examensarbete tittar närmare på de begränsningar Visual Composer medför i kombination med designmönstret Material Design och ramverket Materialize. Uppsatsen visar att Visual Composer kan vara ett bra verktyg för snabb prototyputveckling och för projekt med färre krav och designregler samt om det begränsade potential Visual Composers erbjuder även ses som ett eget designmönster redan tidigt i utvecklingen. / Page builders are becoming an increasingly popular tool in web development and are plugins for WordPress. Today they are used by both freelance designers and web agencies who want to increase their cost-effectiveness, but also by those who have no experience at all in web development. The purpose of this type of plugins is to provide the user with the tools needed to graphically create a web page. This practical thesis looks at the limitations Visual Composer cause in combination with Material Design principles and the framework Materialize. The thesis shows that Visual Composer can be a good tool for rapid prototyping and for projects with fewer requirements and design regulations and if the limited potential of Visual Composer is also seen as a design principle early on in development.

Real-time Full Duplex Communication Over the Web : A performance comparison between different web technologies / Realtidskommunikation i full duplex över webben : En prestandajämförelse mellan olika webbteknologier

As the web browser becomes an increasingly powerful tool for the average web user, with more features and capabilities being developed constantly, the necessity to determine which features perform better than others in the same area becomes more important. This thesis investigates the performance of three separate technologies used to achieve full-duplex real time communication over the web: short polling using Ajax, server-sent events and the WebSocket protocol. An experiment was conducted measuring the performance over three custom-built web applications (one per technology being tested), comparing latency and number of HTTP requests over 100 messages being sent through the application. Additionally, the latency measurements were made over three separate network conditions. The experiment results suggest the WebSocket protocol outperforms both short polling using Ajax and server-sent events by large margins, varying slightly depending on network conditions.

Rámec pro tvorbu aplikací s podporou peer-to-peer spolupráce / Application Development Framework for Peer-to-Peer Collaboration

The thesis deals with the design and implementation of the application framework for the creation of collaborative web editors that enable peer-to-peer collaboration in real time. The thesis summarizes existing approaches for data replication, from which M. Kleppmann's CRDT (conflict-free replicated data type) for JSON is chosen as the most suitable. Using the resulting framework, the created content can be safely shared in groups of peers, where each member can be assigned different permissions. Own communication protocols based on WebRTC, WebSocket and WebCrypto are designed and implemented for P2P connection establishment and subsequent communication. The framework allows to resolve conflicts and work independently without an Internet connection. For a consistent user experience, the library includes a set of user interface elements for managing friends, groups, and other common tasks. The framework is implemented using functional design patterns implemented in the ReasonML language. The functionality of the result is verified by creating an example application of the mind map editor.

The Installation Process of a Progressive Web App : Studying the Impact of "Add to Home screen"

Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is a concept of enhanced web apps which aim to erase the difference between web and native apps. The concept of PWA introduces several benefits, including simpler distribution and development, which makes web apps a viable option for many businesses. The installation process of a PWA is different from native apps and this study aims to understand whether or not it has an impact on the users will to install the PWA. PWA:s are installed directly from the browser, rather than an app marketplace. Said installation process is suspected to be unknown to many which might influence the impact. In this study, several papers on the topic are studied. A PWA is developed from scratch which is used as a platform for a user test, hosting a brief introduction of the topic as well as guiding participants through the installation process. In conjunction with the user test a survey is conducted to collect the impressions from their experience in the user test. The result of the survey shows indications that the suspected lack of knowledge and experience was correct, and that the installation process is not to complicated.Additionally, results show that many probably will not bother to install a PWA, even if it is available. Therefore, I argue that the installation process does have an impact in its current form. Alternatives to the installation process used in this study do exist and are discussed in this paper.

Projektet undersökte olika verktyg och metoder som i skrivande stund används för att lära ut programmering. Den sammanfattar tidigare undersökningar och drar slutsatser kring hur lämpliga de är. Utifrån dessa slutsatser utformades en webbapplikation för undervisning.   Rapporten redogör för hur webbapplikationen konstruerades, samt vilka metoder och verktyg som användes i dess utveckling.   Detta ämne är högaktuellt idag då Sveriges regering ämnar införa programmering i grundskolan och då krävs både bra metoder och verktyg för detta. / This project investigated different tools and methods used today in teaching programming. It summarizes earlier studies and draws conclusions about how suited they are for the job. The accompanying web application would be crafted based on the conclusions made.   The report intends to describe how the web application was constructed, and which methods and tools were used during its development.   The subject of the report is highly relevant today since the Swedish government is discussing the introduction of programming classes in the elementary school. Thus demanding both suitable methods and tools.

Precision cancer medicine is an area of research that involves complex bioinformatics software for the clinical analysis pipelines that sequencing data is passed through. A research team at Karolinska Institutet (KI) is running clinical trials to test new methods of precision cancer medicine and is working on creating a new web application that will be integrated with their two existing applications to aid bioinformaticians in their work of running pipelines and producing clinical reports for the hospitals. Recent publications show that web tools are used for improving usability of bioinformatics software, but have not discussed the inclusion of pipeline management into these systems. This study aims at exploring how the new web system can impact the complexity of the daily work within the trials for users with limited computational experience. This was done by developing a high-fidelity prototype of the new application using a user-centred design approach that included agile design work, usability tests and a focus group with the bioinformaticians at KI. The test sessions and focus group discussion indicate that the new application can speed up the weekly batch-wise sample processing by decreasing the need for users to interact with the command-line. It is also suggested that an integration of different applications can lead to a more efficient workflow within the team. The implication for the development of bioinformatics tools is that there are potentially important benefits to be found in making more usable interfaces for users with different experiences and areas of expertise. / Precisionsmedicin som cancerbehandling är ett forskningsområde som involverar komplex bioinformatisk mjukvara för de kliniska analyspipelines som sekvenseringsdata skickas igenom. En forskargrupp vid Karolinska Institutet (KI) driver kliniska studier för att testa nya metoder för precisionsmedicin mot cancer och arbetar med att skapa en ny webbapplikation som ska integreras med deras två befintliga applikationer för att hjälpa bioinformatiker i deras arbete med att köra pipelines och producera kliniska rapporter för sjukhusen. Nyligen publicerad forskning visar att webbverktyg används för att förbättra användbarheten av bioinformatisk programvara, men har inte berört hantering av pipelines som en del i dessa system. Denna studie syftar till att utforska hur det nya webbsystemet kan påverka tids- och komplexitetsaspekter i det dagliga arbetet inom de kliniska studierna. Detta gjordes genom att utveckla en high-fidelity prototyp av den nya applikationen, baserat på en användarcentrerad approach innefattande agilt designarbete, användbarhetstester och en fokusgrupp med bioinformatikerna på KI. Testsessionerna och fokusgruppsdiskussionen indikerar att den nya applikationen kan påskynda arbetet med de veckovisa omgångarna med prover genom att minska behovet för användare att interagera med kommandoraden. Det föreslås också att en integration av olika applikationer kan leda till ett effektivare arbetsflöde inom forskningsgruppen. Denna rapport behandlar skapandet av en webbapplikation för filtreraring och visualisering av data i Pythonramverket Dash. Rapporten ger en översikt av gruppens arbetsmetodik och projektets utveckling. Webbapplikationen utvecklades inom kursen TDDD96 Kandidatprojekt i programvaruutveckling av nio studenter som studerar civilingenjör Datateknik och civilingenjör Mjukvaruteknik. Detta uppdrag fick projektgruppen av företaget Ericsson. Projektets resultat blev en fungerade webbapplikation efterfrågad funktionalitet. Resultatet och arbetsmetodiken, bland annat testdriven utveckling, diskuteras i rapporten med fokus på hur utvecklingsprocessen förbättrades. Rapportens slutsatser är att ramverket Dash lämpar sig för webbutveckling i ett mindre projekt, särskilt för datavisualisering, och att produkten skapar värde för kunden.

We explore the aspects of cognition, emotion, and motivation, offering a nuanced exploration of how task structures and educational environments impact these students. Employing an Activity and Action-Based framework, the study engages with a blend of observational and interview methodologies. This approach provides an in-depth understanding of how students with reading and writing difficulties interact with and perceive various educational tasks, particularly those with a heavy reliance on text. The insights gleaned from this research are significant, offering valuable guidance for tailoring educational strategies and technological tools to more effectively meet the needs of students with reading and writing difficulties in the increasingly important fields of programming and web development. / Detta examensarbete utforskar de unika utbildningsutmaningarna och inlärningsstrategier hos studenter med läs- och skrivsvårigheter, särskilt inom programmering och webbutveckling. Vi undersöker aspekter av kognition, emotion och motivation och erbjuder en nyanserad bild av hur uppgiftsstrukturer och utbildningsmiljöer påverkar dessa studenter.
