Unknown Exception Handling Tool Using Humans as Agents

Mahanga, Mwaka 01 January 2015 (has links)
In a typical workflow process, exceptions are the norm. Exceptions are defined as deviations from the normal sequence of activities and events. Exceptions can be divided into two broad categories: known exceptions (i.e., expected and predefined deviations) and unknown exceptions (i.e., unexpected and undefined deviations). Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) has become the de facto standard for executing business workflows with the use of web services. BPEL includes exception handling methods that are sufficient for known exception scenarios. Depending on the exception and the specifics of the exception handling tools, processes may either halt or move to completion. Instances of processes that are halted or left incomplete due to unhandled exceptions affect the performance of the workflow process, as they increase resource utilization and process completion time. However, designing efficient process handlers to avoid the issue of unhandled exceptions is not a simple task. This thesis provides a tool that handles unknown exceptions using provisions for exception handling with the involvement of human activities by using the BPEL4PEOPLE specification. BPEL4PEOPLE, an extension of BPEL, offers the ability to specify human activities within BPEL processes. The approach considered in this thesis involves humans in exception handling tools by providing an alternate sub process within a given business process. A prototype application has been developed implementing the tool that handles unknown exceptions. The prototype application monitors the progress of an automated workflow process and permits human involvement to reroute the course of a workflow process when an unknown exception occurs. The utility of the prototype and the tool using the Scenario Walkthrough and Inspection Methods (SWIMs) are demonstrated. We demonstrate the utility of the tool through loan application process scenarios, and offer a walkthrough of the system by using examples of instances with examples of known and unknown exceptions, as well as a claims analysis of process instances results.

Nader, Marcos Vanine Portilho de, 1954- 12 January 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Mauricio Ferreira Magalhães / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Eletrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-08T01:16:08Z (GMT). Two important areas have been in development lately: Business Process Management and Web Service Orchestration. In both of them, the objective is to integrate applications with web services interface through business process paradigm. A number of languages have been proposed with consensus being formed around BPEL (Business Process Execution Language). This dissertation presents a framework for BPEL processes analysis and verification through Pi-Calculus. Pi-Calculus is a process algebra with formal mechanisms for processes creation and activation; these processes communicate sending and receiving messages through channels using the synchronous rendezvous model. In this framework, the BPEL process is translated to a Pi-Calculus program, A Pi-Calculus Virtual Machine (MVP) receives a Pi-calculus program and executes all possible reactions, that is, it generates all execution paths possible to be taken. With this result, the properties such as high-level specification accomplishment, events ordering and deadlock freedom are verified. In practical terms, a tool of this sort can be part of a Business Process Management System (BPMS) to broaden test coverage during the analysis and implementation phases within a process life cycle. In these kinds of systems, a repairing mistake during the execution phase is more complex than in traditional systems / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Modellering av BIM-objektsfamiljer - en arbetsgång för leverantörer

Granath, Emil, Pervance, Sergen January 2020 (has links)
Within the last 10-20 years, the usage of BIM-modeling in the construction sector has increased.BIM-modeling is used daily in different stages of the design process in Sweden. During the designprocess BIM-objects is used which is created by either the manufacturers or the planner. Theseobjects are created by a real product and is made to represent that in the program. The increase ofBIM usage has led to more disciplines that didn’t work with BIM has to adapt and start with that. The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding about the creation of object families formanufacturers. Besides the literature study about the subject we also describe the whole modellingprocess in Revit step by step. This because to give an example how it could be made. The result became a general workflow that is usable for most kinds of objects. The workflowrequires the reader to understand the different parts of an object family which we describe in thethesis.A conclusion is that a family could be built in different ways and it’s important to regularly testyour model. Furthermore, it should not contain more information than what is necessary. BIMobjectswith less information is often preferred over heavy and detailed BIM-objects. This will alsoprevent unnecessary load on the software.

Interactive Design Interfaces to support Ideation & Rapid Prototyping

Devashri Utpal Vagholkar (11816888) 19 December 2021 (has links)
Generating ideas and creating prototypes of physical products is a highly non-linear and iterative process. Current tools divide this process into multiple discrete steps with different tools to support each of these steps such as CAD modelling, simulation and fabrication. We believe, design interfaces that combine different steps of the process and create different layers of abstraction depending on the type of the user and where they are in the process can support users in generating more creative ideas and creating better functioning prototypes more efficiently. In order to validate this, we developed three interfaces- a sketch-based ideation tool, a live programming interface to create IoT devices and a design tool to support design and fabrication of hand wearables. The foundation of these design interfaces is the layer of abstraction that allows users to focus on idea generation and converting it into a tangible prototype with little or no technical knowledge, and a continuous visual feedback that guides the user to make necessary changes to improve their design. The three tools were evaluated through user testing for supporting creation of different ideas and converting them into functional prototypes.

Evaluation of high-level synthesis tools for generation of Verilog code from MATLAB based environments

Bäck, Carl January 2020 (has links)
FPGAs are of interest in the signal processing domain as they provide the opportunity to run algorithms at very high speed. One possible use case is to sort incoming data in a measurement system, using e.g. a histogram method. Developing code for FPGA applications usually requires knowledge about special languages, which are not common knowledge in the signal processing domain. High-level synthesis is an approach where high-level languages, as MATLAB or C++, can be used together with a code generation tool, to directly generate an FPGA ready output. This thesis uses the development of a histogram as a test case to investigate the efficiency of three different tools, HDL Coder in MATLAB, HDL Coder in Simulink and System Generator for DSP in comparison to the direct development of the same histogram in Vivado using Verilog. How to write and structure code in these tools for proper functionality was also examined. It has been found that all tools deliver an operation frequency comparable to a direct implementation in Verilog, decreased resource usage, a development time which decreased by 27% (HDL Coder in MATLAB), 45% (System Generator) and 64% (HDL Coder in Simulink) but at the cost of increased power consumption. Instructions for how to use all three tools has been collected and summarised.

Meißner, Christian 26 March 2015 (has links)

Blumtritt, Ute 20 March 2001 (has links)
