Work process for advertising images : How can the collaboration between the client, the photographer and the retoucher be streamlined?

Arnell, Emilia January 2020 (has links)
Projects involving clients, photographers and retouchers has a common goal but each part have different stops along the way.Extended deadlines, budget overruns, lack of communication and friction between the parties. These are all things that can occur in projects involving multiple parties. In this study, work processes in the production of advertising images has been analyzed in order to define strengths and weaknesses. The aim for this work was to develop guidelines for the parties to use in the future. In order to survey each party’s work process and their different views on the collaboration between them, six interviews were conducted. Since the interviewees’ consisted of people currently in the industry, the results were well-founded.The results from the study shows that some of the central parts of a well-functioning work process are a clear brief and the use of templates or checklists. These aspects contribute to high-quality results and delivery within deadlines. This study has been conducted in collaboration with Linjepunkt Repro, a company working with advanced image retouching and graphic production. The collaboration contributed to a clearer insight into the industry and valuable contacts. The result of the study could benefit the company and its partners, but it can also be applied to other similar work processes.

Cancer reporting: timeliness analysis and process reengineering

Jabour, Abdulrahman M. 09 November 2015 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Introduction: Cancer registries collect tumor-related data to monitor incident rates and support population-based research. A common concern with using population-based registry data for research is reporting timeliness. Data timeliness have been recognized as an important data characteristic by both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Yet, few recent studies in the United States (U.S.) have systemically measured timeliness. The goal of this research is to evaluate the quality of cancer data and examine methods by which the reporting process can be improved. The study aims are: 1- evaluate the timeliness of cancer cases at the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) Cancer Registry, 2- identify the perceived barriers and facilitators to timely reporting, and 3- reengineer the current reporting process to improve turnaround time. Method: For Aim 1: Using the ISDH dataset from 2000 to 2009, we evaluated the reporting timeliness and subtask within the process cycle. For Aim 2: Certified cancer registrars reporting for ISDH were invited to a semi-structured interview. The interviews were recorded and qualitatively analyzed. For Aim 3: We designed a reengineered workflow to minimize the reporting timeliness and tested it using simulation. Result: The results show variation in the mean reporting time, which ranged from 426 days in 2003 to 252 days in 2009. The barriers identified were categorized into six themes and the most common barrier was accessing medical records at external facilities. We also found that cases reside for a few months in the local hospital database while waiting for treatment data to become available. The recommended workflow focused on leveraging a health information exchange for data access and adding a notification system to inform registrars when new treatments are available.

Ludvík, Martin January 2009 (has links)
The aim of Analysis of Business Process Diagrams is to create procedure that is able to find typical patterns in business process diagrams. Besides, it is necessary to design and implement application, which will be able to find and mark selected workflow patterns. This analysis is based on XML document, in which a business process diagram is stored. Important thing is to keep the ability to extend the number of patterns, which can be find out in a diagram. Also, it is important to solve some special situations, i.e. overlapping of patterns.

Parametric design and optimization of steel and timber truss structures : Development of a workflow for design and optimization processes in Grasshopper 3D environment

WELDEGIORGIS, FILMON, DHUNGANA, ANUP RAJ January 2020 (has links)
The demand for complex structures and the urge to perform more detailed structural analyses in an early stage of the project design phase has increased the use of parametric design in the construction sector, especially among architects and structural engineers. Also, an increasing demand for sustainable structures is creating pressure on engineers and architects to design optimized structures that consume as little resources as possible. Keeping these demands in mind, this thesis tries to uncover the benefits of parametric design and optimization by applying these processes to industrial roof truss structures. The primary objective of the thesis is to investigate the feasibility and reliability of parametric design and optimization processes in real-life designs. For this purpose, a parametric algorithm has been developed in the visual programming software Grasshopper 3D. The workflow performs structural analysis and design verification on a parametric FE-model using the FEA software for parametric engineering, Karamba 3D in combination with Python where standards for design verification were scripted. These procedures were developed to be applied on both steel and timber truss structures. The workflow then performs a constrained cross-sectional and geometrical optimization of the truss structures. For the optimization process, the plug-in Galapagos have been used which uses evolutionary and simulated annealing techniques. After analyses of different cases and on comparison of the results from the model response verification, the resulting models showed that the workflow and analysis procedure was capable of obtaining a solution that is more effective and as reliable as the traditional structural analysis procedures and thus can be used for real case. When used during preliminary design, the parametric design procedure displayed great potential in saving time, thus saving resources and cost which paves a promising path for implementations in this sector.

A Model for Company Document Digitization (CODED) : Proposal for a Process Model for Digitizing Company Documents / En modell för dokumentdigitalisering inom företag : Förslag till en modell för att digitalisera företagsdokument

Bothin, Anton January 2020 (has links)
There exists many companies which wish to transition toward a more digital workflow. However, many of these companies lack the technical expertise required to undertake such an endeavor. To assist companies in this area, a digitization process model could be used as a stepping-stone toward successful digitization. Currently, however, there exists no such digitization process model. The purpose of this thesis is to suggest such a digitization process model. The goal is to help companies in digitizing their documents and their workflow. The research question used to reach this goal pertains to how a digitization process model should be structured. Due to the lack of currently existing digitization process models, different process models within the field of software engineering where analyzed as a basis. The research was qualitative and explorative in its nature, and it followed design science as its research paradigm. An extensive literature study was conducted before development of the model began. The model was evaluated using interviews together with action research. These interviews focused on evaluating the model based on five criteria which had been defined: (1) interviewee credibility, (2) semantic correctness, (3) syntactic correctness, (4) usefulness, and (5) process flexibility. The results of this thesis is the company document digitization process model (CODED), which, as the name suggests, is a proposed process model for document digitization. This model has been based on information gathered by, partly the literature study, and partly the interviews. The literature study proved the model to be unique, since no similar model existed prior to this thesis. While the interviews proved the model to be valid, since it accomplished all evaluation criteria which had been defined.

The User Experience of Manufacturing Factory Screens: Developing Design Patterns using Research-through-Design Methodology / Designa användarupplevelsen av fabriksskärmar för tillverkningsprocesser

Červeň, Adam January 2023 (has links)
The effective visualization of manufacturing data can lead to the minimization of production issues and an increase in the effectiveness of manufacturing processes, by decreasing the cognitive load required for human machine operators to understand what is going on in the factory, improving communication, adding a sense of control, and providing clear access to information. However, the knowledge of how to effectively design visualizations, dashboards, and factory screens is still a topic of research, especially from the user experience point of view. This study investigates the user experience of factory screens in a concrete context of a manufacturing company in Sweden. Through a research-through-design process involving semi-structured user interviews, creative co-creation sessions, and interactive prototype testing, this study aims to answer the research question: What design patterns can be used in building effective, usable, and useful factory screens for interactive data visualization in manufacturing processes? The results provide insights into the more general application of design for manufacturing visualizations, uncovering a set of 7 design patterns for creating an effective user experience of factory screens.

Autonomic Product Development Process Automation

Daley, John E. 12 July 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Market globalization and mass customization requirements are forcing companies towards automation of their product development processes. Many task-specific software solutions provide localized automation. Coordinating these local solutions to automate higher-level processes requires significant software maintenance costs due to the incompatibility of the software tools and the dynamic nature of the product development environment. Current automation methods do not provide the required level of flexibility to operate in this dynamic environment. An autonomic product development process automation strategy is proposed in order to provide a flexible, standardized approach to product development process automation and to significantly reduce the software maintenance costs associated with traditional automation methods. Key elements of the strategy include a formal approach to decompose product development processes into services, a method to describe functional and quality attributes of services, a process modeling algorithm to configure processes composed of services, a method to evaluate process utility based on quality metrics and user preferences, and an implementation that allows a user to instantiate the optimal process. Because the framework allows a user to rapidly reconfigure and select optimal processes as new services are introduced or as requirements change, the framework should reduce burdensome software maintenance costs associated with traditional automation methods and provide a more flexible approach.
