L’abstrait et le concret dans la physique de Leibniz à l’époque de Mayence / The abstract and the concrete in Leibniz's physics at the time of MainzKonno, Ryoko 25 March 2019 (has links)
In this present work, we study the meaning of the abstract and the concrete in Leibniz's physics at the time of Mainz (1668–1672 March). Through his hylomorphism, Leibniz seeks to consider how to apply the concept of action to the body. In this perspective, his search for physics consists of two points: 1/ the search for the specific meaning of the substantiality of the body; 2/ the search for the extension of the use of action – these are essential subjects in his theology –. Thus understood, his reflection in the abstract theory show that the main concepts in his theory of motion - size, figure and movement - sont analysed according to the specific use in each context in which they appear. Thanks to this research, Leibniz receives the concept of the conatus by Hobbes. These reflections prepare the abstract side of his physics. During this process, Leibniz is also interested in the sensitivity of the human being. This subject is related both to the search for the fundamental nature of the human mind and to the phenomenality of the corporeal world. From there, Leibniz opened the way for the search for the sensitive phenomenon in physics, which constitutes the concrete side of his physics. With all this research, Leibniz founded his first two treatises in physics, which are divided into abstract theory and concrete theory. To integrate abstract and concrete into physics, Leibniz uses the concept of oeconomia. This shows that young Leibniz is seeking to establish physics, which is rooted in his metaphysics, but which is autonomous as a science.

Kognitivní funkce ptáků založené na abstraktních zrakových stimulech / Cognitive functions of birds based on abstract visual stimuliŠtorchová, Zuzana January 2010 (has links)
Spatial orientation of pigeons on a small scale was intensivelly studied in experiments using various types of arenas or mazes. In these experiments pigeons usually searched for food hidden in the goal area and they based their orientation on available landmarks. The development of new technologies allowed to test spatial cognition of pigeons also in virtual tasks, based exclusively on a schematic representation of an arena or maze on a touch screen. In experiments of this type pigeon marks the goal by pecking and it is rewarded by food from a feeder, located near the monitor. Study presented in this diploma thesis was based on combination of both types of spatial tasks. The information crucial for locating the goal was presented to pigeons on a computer screen in form of graphic stimuli, whereas the goal itself was formed by one of the 4 holes in corners of a transparent rectangular desk, standing in front of the monitor. Experiment with similar design was not yet published in the study of spatial cognition of pigeons. Two types of abstract graphic stimuli were tested. The first stimuli provided a spatial information about the location of a goal and had a form of small rectangular frame with a white spot in one of its corners. The frame represented the space of the response desk and the white spot...

Analýza struktury a obsahu abstraktů odborných časopisů z oboru materiálové vědy : Hutnické listy a Ceramics-Silikáty / Content and structure analysis of Czech material science journals abstracts : Hutnické listy and Ceramics-SilikátyVeselá, Eliška January 2012 (has links)
An abstract is a reduced scholarly document crucial for relevant scientific articles and full text documents selection. Therefore abstracts should briefly and clearly represent the full text content. The aim of this research is to construct proper structure, which would be internationally as well as interdisciplinary applied, primarily within the European Union. The structure used in the research was supposed to be evaluated as the most suitable one by the experts. There were 2 material science journals (100 abstracts from each journal) selected. Those samples were analysed in freeware Weft QDA, designed for content analysis of text documents. Sample abstracts were based on the content analysis resulting data. The samples were evaluated by material science experts in the survey. The most common combination of categories in original abstracts were background, methodology and results. The repsonses of surveys pointed out, that the recommended abstract include all necessary information and exclude the redundant ones.

Is there a progress from concrete to abstract in mathematics teaching? : A qualitative study that examines how teachers design their mathematics teaching with regards to concrete and abstract working methodsBäckström, Annela, Hogbring, Gabriella January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to investigate teachers' perceptions of, and if and how they shape the progression of mathematics teaching from, concrete to abstract. This has been studied through qualitative interviews with six F-3 teachers from three different schools. The data generated from the interviews have been analyzed from a pragmatic and sociocultural perspective. The results show how teachers plan and work with concrete and abstract strategies in their teaching. The study concludes that the teachers do not work based on a clear progression from concrete to abstract. On the other hand, they work actively to create a varied teaching where concrete and abstract strategies are mixed in their education to develop students in their learning.

Polyhedral Surface Approximation of Non-Convex Voxel Sets and Improvements to the Convex Hull Computing MethodSchulz, Henrik January 2009 (has links)
In this paper we introduce an algorithm for the creation of polyhedral approximations for objects represented as strongly connected sets of voxels in three-dimensional binary images. The algorithm generates the convex hull of a given object and modifies the hull afterwards by recursive repetitions of generating convex hulls of subsets of the given voxel set or subsets of the background voxels. The result of this method is a polyhedron which separates object voxels from background voxels. The objects processed by this algorithm and also the background voxel components inside the convex hull of the objects are restricted to have genus 0. The second aim of this paper is to present some improvements to our convex hull algorithm to reduce computation time.

January 2017 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The main purpose of the present work was to investigate the contributions that Modern Abstract Algebra (which the theories of Groups, Rings and Fields, among others, are worked on), as a discipline in Degree courses in Mathematics in Brazil, might give to initial Teacher Education in Mathematics. The present research has a qualitative approach and it was grounded on the Methodological Model of Romberg-Onuchic. In order to achieve that goal, we proposed a field research, developed in 2015, involving a class of fifth semester students of Degree in Mathematics at Instituto Federal de Goiás (IFG). To that end, we elaborated and implemented a teaching project with the purpose of enabling that group of students to build satisfactory knowledge on Modern Abstract Algebra and showing the relationship of its contents to the ones of Elementary Education. In order to build such knowledge, we used the Methodology of Teaching-Learning-Evaluation in Mathematics through Problem Solving, found in the field of Mathematics Education and consolidated by several researches as effective in the process of Mathematics teaching, learning and evaluation in several levels - Elementary, Middle and Higher Education. The correlation between the contents of Modern Abstract Algebra and the ones of Elementary Education came about through the proposition to that group of students of extracurricular activities which were always discussed further in classroom by all people involved in that process: students, researcher and teacher. There were also two meetings with the only purpose of working, discussing and analysing this association - Modern Abstract Algebra and Elementary Education. The evidence-gathering was made through the researcher's observation during the project application, the materials produced by the students, the media (audio and video recordings of the meetings) and a diagnostic ... Synthesizing Software from a ForSyDe Model Targeting GPGPUsHjort Blindell, Gabriel January 2012 (has links)
Today, a plethora of parallel execution platforms are available. One platform in particular is the GPGPU – a massively parallel architecture designed for exploiting data parallelism. However, GPGPUS are notoriously difficult to program due to the way data is accessed and processed, and many interconnected factors affect the performance. This makes it an exceptionally challengingtask to write correct and high-performing applications for GPGPUS. This thesis project aims to address this problem by investigating how ForSyDe models – a software engineering methodology where applications are modeled at a very high level of abstraction – can be synthesized into CUDA C code for execution on NVIDIA CUDA-enabled graphics cards. The report proposes a software synthesis process which discovers one type of potential data parallelism in a model and generates either pure C or CUDA C code. A prototype of the software synthesis component has also been implemented and tested on models derived from two applications – a Mandelbrot generator and an industrial-scale image processor. The synthesized CUDA code produced in the tests was shown to be both correct and efficient, provided there was enough computation complexity in the processes to amortize the overhead cost of using the GPGPU.
