A usability evaluation of international airport website from the external customers' perspective : a cross-national comparative study

Unknown Date (has links)
Airports play a decisive role in the supply chain of aviation industry. As a gateway of one country, an international airport manifests a nation’s competitiveness through the service standard of its software and hardware facilities delivering to its external customers. Today, Internet has become a main media for people to pass on, to share and to acquire various pieces of information, which makes the official website of an international airport an important extending platform for the authority to conduct customer relationship management. Therefore, what an international airport website represents is not just the image of a certain airport, but also the facade of one country. Under this circumstance, how to meet the needs of external customers during their first reach of an airport website so as to increase their visit motivations has become a primary issue while webmasters designing webpages. In this study, the researcher chose English version websites of six international airports, including Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, to conduct content analysis and website usability. The result shows that there are no significant differences among tested websites; however, after collecting usability test scores, participants’ opinions, and reviewing key actors interview, this thesis concludes and would suggest Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to firstly improve the layout arrangement of flight information, retrieval method, and elevate the completeness of shop and dining information. Secondly, visual communicate interface, such as color, fonts, font size and so on, and content consistency among different language versions should be enhanced and an internal control mechanism, which aims at maintaining that consistency, should be built to utilize the user experience so as to advance the credibility of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. On top of that, this study expects to raise the awareness of website usability among all government sectors, who are developing and promoting e-government policy, to also include website usability into the core concept of webpage design while pursuing administrative efficiency and quality of citizen services and, furthermore, to assist Government to conduct website evaluation in order to create a smooth and customized user experience.

Recarga gerenciada do aqüífero do Aeroporto Internacional Governador André Franco Montoro, Guarulhos/SP: estudo piloto do sistema solo-aqüífero. / Managed aquifer recharge of the Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport, Guarulhos/SP: pilot study of soil-aquifer system.

Okpala, Walter Onyebuchi 15 February 2011 (has links)
The Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport, São Paulo, entirely depends on groundwater to meet its demand. However, excessive extraction practice which increase continuously in order to attend the demand of increasing number of passengers and the difficulty involved with natural recharge of its aquifer led the Federal Airport Administration Agency (Infraero) to search for other sources of water supply. Although the search for solution for water scarcity problem goes through managed aquifer recharge, lack of national experience in this area restricts decision making in adopting this practice in the country. Contributing to the technical feasibility studies of managed aquifer recharge in general and the Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport in particular, this research has the objective of verifying at the pilot scale level, the capacity of airport soil-aquifer in adequately treating wastewater generated locally. In order to reach this objective, an adequate location was selected within the alternatives evaluated for the construction of a pilot unit for aquifer recharge. Undeformed samples were collected from the unsaturated layer of the selected place, characterized and afterwards, recharged through special experimental columns with wastewater which was filtered in a controlled form. As the results of the first experimental phase were not adequately met, a decision was made to collect undeformed samples from a second location in the airport. The collection indicated the existence of deep unsaturated layer with the soil profile being similar to the profile of the soil layer from which the first samples were collected. The soil column tests were carried out with samples from both areas, indicating that superficial part of airport soil will be eliminated or substituted with a coarse sandy layer in order to permit a managed aquifer recharge which allows production of water that meets the quality of its required uses. Of the different scenarios verified in this research was infiltration of secondary wastewater produced at the airport through soil columns. Another was infiltration of wastewater after its pre-treatment by physicalchemical processes of coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation and still a third scenario, through pre-treatment of secondary effluent by ultrafiltration membrane. The results obtained are considered partial since the total aquifer depth was not used and the fact that academic restrictions limited excessively the time period of the research. However, considering this as a pioneer work, and the fact that it constitutes the first research about managed aquifer recharge in Brazil, and with it, bringing theoretical and practical contributions to support other similar studies which would be necessary in understanding and promoting managed aquifer recharge practice in Brazil.

Aims to discuss the points of intersection between urbanism, public policy and tourism, based on the case study of the expansion of Viracopos International Airport in Campinas. With this goal presents the Viracopos International Airport at the same time as a strategic connection element between various modes of displacement taking into account other means of transport (such as road and rail interconnection) and as an urban equipment with the potential to bring about change significant in urban and tourist infrastructure Campinas. For such investigations, the tourist attractions of Campinas city will be focused as potential spaces for boosting tourism, taking into account their cultural relations linked to tourism and a brief study of the local identity and the construction of a new identity of marketing that incorporates the urban aspects involved. One purpose of this paper is to discuss the consequences, beneficial or evil, the transformation from Viracopos International Airport in the main airport portal in Latin America, both to become a real center for receiving and issuing tourist and dynamic socio-spatial City. We intend to complete this work with issues related to the subject matter with regard to management and public policies should be developed on the future of tourism in Campinas, and with the assurance that the expectations will be proposed to the council hardly they will be achieved if the government does not develop purposeful initiatives integrated to the different instances of municipal management to improve the quality of life of its residents.

Airport territory as interface : mobile work and travel in hybrid space

Codourey, Monika Ewa January 2015 (has links)
Global mobility, wireless technology and networked society are transforming the airport territory. These changes (hard factors) have been analysed in airport planning and transportation studies (Koll-Schretzenmayr 2003; Banister 2003; Schaafsma 2003; Knippenberger &Wall 2010; Salewski & Michaelli 2011; Convenz & Thierstein ed. 2014 et al) and architecture and design (Edwards 1998; Blow 2005; Cuadra 2002; Uffelen 2012; Gensler 2013 et al). But design strategies focusing on the passenger experience (soft factors) have not yet been thoroughly assimilated by architecture and design. On the theoretical level this dissertation spans the analysis of current methodologies in social studies (e.g. Castells 1996; Gottdiener 2000; Cresswell 2006; Urry, 2007; Elliott & Urry 2010; Adey 2010 et al) and their relation to architectural and urban studies concepts for the airport. The latter includes the “Airport as City” (Güller & Güller 2000), “Aviopolis – A Book about Airports” (Fuller & Harley 2005) and “Aerotropolis” (Kassarda 2010). This dissertation also explores IT and aviation industry interests at the interface between technology and air travellers. In this light aviation industry research and solutions (Amadeus 2011, SITA 2013) are important to consider, as well the philosophy behind who travels and for what purpose (Sloterdijk 1998; Koolhaas 1998; Gottdiener 2000; Urry 2007; Birtchnell & Caletrio 2014 et al). Here, the author’s previous field research at Frankfurt International Airport is relevant. We live more mobile lifestyles, we work in hybrid spaces (Suoza 2006; Duffy 2010 et al), and we consequently need to share information and collaborate differently. Using constant travellers as a case study, the impact of physical and informational mobility on perceptions of and behavioural patterns in the airport can lead to a deeper understanding of mobile work and the air travel experience. New design strategies can be developed from research about constant travellers, and the results may improve their work and air travel experience. The author’s combination of design approaches from architecture and social science (sociology and psychology) methodologies can better address the real needs of constant travellers in hybrid workspaces. It is hoped that this dissertation will inspire airport architects and designers, interaction designers and the aviation industry to pay more attention to users’ needs in their design processes.

We have as an empirical reference the Airport of Fortaleza which was built within the period of 1996 – 1998. We try to understand the various material and symbolic investments accomplished all around the Airport by the social actors (governmental representatives, tourist trade, architects, inhabitants of the surroundings and “topiqueiros”), who have the Airport as a reference for their social activities. The hypothesis defended in this research is that the successive amplifications/constructions of the Airport throughout the years have been acting in movements accomplished by people who live in the “surrounded areas” which demonstrate, partly, how the subjects have distinct power over the contemporary means of transportation. We even interpret the present-day airport as a partial aspect of the image of the tourist city which is granted to the city of Fortaleza, also as a landscape of power which seems to condense, very well, the present-day conflicts between market and place. We also intend to demonstrate that what the construction of equipments, which are considered as of international quality, such as the present-day airport, seems to illustrate, is one of the exigencies defended by the proponents of the so called urban strategic planning which have predominated among professionals and managers of the cities through decades. In the state of Ceará such strategy was begun more intensively in 1995, with the PRODETUR (An action Program which at the development of Tourism in the Northeast of Brazil).

Changing a symmetric regulation environment observed shall be the way can be promoted to an asymmetric environment, safeguarding the rights and obligations of providers of certain activity. Moreover, it will seek to suggest legal instruments to allow the composition of two ways to undertake an economic activity, one who will take under public law (publicatio); and another that relates to private law (ordenatio); comprising well, assymetric regulation. As an illustration, will be verified the provisional measure (MP) 656/14 - which provided a possible model in which they would have two airport infrastructure offerings - to better exemplify how, legally, can make this organization possible dual delivery, via government (or delegatee), in the form of 'concessão'; and the private sector, according to 'autorização'.

Optimization of airport operations : stand allocation, ground routing and runway sequencing

Guepet, Julien 03 December 2015 (has links)
In this thesis, we address the optimization of aircraft ground operations at airports, focusing on three main optimization problems: the stand allocation, the ground routing between stands and runways, and the sequencing of take-offs and landings. These works result from a close collaboration with Amadeus. Our approaches have been tested and validated with real data from European airports. The stand allocation problem is formulated as a Mixed Integer Program (MIP). We show that finding an allocation plan respecting operational requirements is NP-Complete and we strengthen our model in several directions. We obtain better solutions than the literature withing reasonable computation times for an industrial application. The ground routing problem is modeled by a MIP formulation adapted from the literature. We show that the main indicators of the industry are in contradiction with the objective of reducing taxi times and therefore air pollution. We propose new indicators based on take-off times instead of push back times.Lastly, we focus on the integration of the runway sequencing with the ground routing. We highlight that a better integration allows to reduce taxi times while improving the management of the runway. We propose a sequential heuristic based on an innovative MIP formulation of the runway sequencing problem. This heuristic is shown to provide high quality solutions in reasonable computation times, unlike the exact approach from the literature.

De Belo Horizonte a Confins: a reconfiguração espacial metropolitana e a tipicidade do lugar

Pereira, Grasieli Adriana Souza 05 September 2011 (has links)
The metropolis is a dynamical and complex area, which important role played by it is to meet demands for services, trade, education and infrastructure. The expansion of the metropolis becomes a concern of many scholars, since it is directly linked to the growth of smaller cities, which can still be affected by the proliferation of slums and the lack of infrastructure, dscharacterizing the livelihood of small cities, which enables emergence of new territoriality. The need for new areas to permit the urban growth led to the metropolitan city of Belo Horizonte to the city of Confins to start the construction project of the Tancredo Neves International Airport, in the 1980s. This factor has led to many political conflicts and environmental problems due to the distance of the airport in relation to the metropolis and as a region in which predominates the karst relay. However, despite of these adversities, the Airport was achieved. The study area of this work is located in the north of the capital, the city of Confins, where is installed the Tancredo Neves International Airport. This region tends to introduce a new dynamism with important implications and consequences on the livelihood of residents, triggered by the urbanization process that focused on site. New government projects targeted to this region are being planned and executed, as the creation of a road network to facilitate access to the airport and the proposition of creating a technology park. The goal is to study the influence of the construction of this urban equipment in the small town of Confins. For this, we intend to highlight the specificities of the place, consider the lifestyle of the urban population and the improvements resulting from the government and private investments deployed in the city. The rationale of this study is based on a lack of specific work related to the municipality of Confins and the influence to the development of the place. It is understood that in this case, the process of urbanization is represented by a dynamic metropolis, thus, understanding the urban dynamism contributes to the analysis and discussion of issues of the place and more than that, for the formation of a meaning on the development of small towns through the construction of important works for the integration and development of the country.
