This essay analyses the existence of a literary tendency in Sweden the last decade, which shares many similarities with magical realism. The study includes the work of three writers: Majgull Axelsson with Aprilhäxan; John Ajvide Lindquist with Hanteringen av odöda and Låt den rätte komma in; and finally a short story of Alejandro Leiva Wegner, “Elixir”. Focus for this work is to expose how these writers use supernatural events/people as a strategy to create a new identity and to effect social criticism, strategies that are common to magical realism. The aim of this work is therefore to clarify generalities about magical realism as a genre and give it a place in Swedish literature and in a changing Swedish society. Furthermore this essay defines a unique term for the genre as adapted to the Swedish reader and with some characteristics of its own: “övernaturlig realism” (supernatural realism).

EL REGGAETÓN COMO VEHÍCULO PARA LA ENSEÑANZA DE LA VARIACIÓN LINGÜÍSTICA EN EL AULA DE ESPAÑOL L2Huete Guerrero, Wilfredo Antonio 05 1900 (has links)

dimensiones incomposibles. / This thesis aims to develop an analysis model based on the articulation between
Greimasian semiotics and Lacanian psychoanalysis. In addition, we want to test the
possibilities of this model in the analysis of the significance of the work of two Peruvian
poets of the early twentieth century, Alejandro Peralta and Carlos Oquendo. This
interdisciplinary and methodological articulation is located between the theory of
enunciation belonging to the first discipline mentioned, and the reflections on the real that
belong to the second. The method used to build this model is interdisciplinary approach
and search for a sustained compossibility in the revision of the aspects that allow, in
semiotics, a reasonable incorporation of the dimension of the real in the analysis of
discourse and the observation of the orientation that Lacan has made regarding the
category of enunciation in psychoanalysis. The main conclusion we reach is that it is
possible to inscribe the dimension of the real in the semiotic analysis of discourse from
an expansion of the modal basis of enunciative praxis and to introduce, in semiotics, the
Lacanian notion of letter as mediator between incompossible dimensions.

"Homage to Nancarrow" from "Estudios de Frontera for 5 Percussion Players" by Alejandro Viñao: A Rhythmic Analysis and Performance Practice GuideKilgore, Matthew Ryan 12 1900 (has links)
The Peabody Conservatory commissioned Estudios De Frontera by Alejandro Viñao in 2004. Percussionist Robert Van Sice initiated the commissioning process. Estudios De Frontera is the first composition for percussion ensemble by Viñao. Viñao's Estudios is written in two movements. The first is titled Homage to Nancarrow. As the title implies the compositional processes are directly influenced by Conlon Nancarrow. The composer states: "Homage to Nancarrow is concerned with the perceptual illusion of multiple simultaneous speeds or tempi....This movement explores the type of rhythms that create the illusion that multiple independent tempi are being heard while remaining playable by musicians." The purpose of this document is to provide a rhythmic analysis describing the techniques used by Chopin, Ligeti, and Nancarrow, and demonstrating their manifestation in the first movement of Alejandro Viñao's Estudios de Frontera. The analysis provides detailed information in regards to Nancarrow's rhythmic structures including: ostinato, hemiola, isorhythm, accelerations, and implied poly-tempo. Additionally, by seeking advice from notable performers and ensembles, the areas of greatest concern are identified, and strategies towards rehearsal and performance are recommended. The performance guide is included as an appendix to the analytic body of the paper.

This study regards the influence of ’modern’ satanism on performative art in the nineteen sixties- and seventies. The methodological framework consists of performativity theory, religious visual culture and aesthetics of experimental film. The material consists mainly of cinematic work by Kenneth Anger and Alejandro Jodorowsky, as well as musical performances by the likes of Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones and David Bowie. In addition to this material I also use academic texts, dissertations and books written about the subjects themselves as a foundation for my own further analysis and discussions. By looking closely at a selection of cinnematic work of foremost Kenneth Anger, I try to show how his own esoteric and occult interests are present as a fundamental part of his creative process and the following filmworks/artworks themselves. This is also put into relationship with Anton Szandor Lavey, founder of the Church of Satan, and their common thoughts concerning ritually performed magic. By using performativity theory I trie to emphasise the interlocking structures of these two worlds in the artwork of Kenneth Anger and other artists active in the culturual ’milieu’ of the sixties- and seventies. The results indicate that the religious sphere of satanism, occultism and esotericism (and alternative modes of religion in general) was closeley inflicted with counterculture-infused film and music (as represented by the selection of material).

Reassessing Consensus: Alejandro O’Reilly’s 1765 Visita and Puerto Rican HistoryUnknown Date (has links)
King Charles III of Spain implemented a series of Enlightenment reforms
throughout his domain following the 1763 defeat of the Seven Years War Among the
royal officials sent to enact these reforms in the Caribbean, the Crown dispatched Field
Marshal Alejandro O’Reilly to the colony of Puerto Rico Historians have attributed to
his 1765 inspection, or visita, and subsequent report, or memoria, the foundations for a
turning point in the island’s history Despite the historical consensus that has lauded
O’Reilly’s recommendations, this inspector-general does not merit the credit that
historians consistently have given him Agrarian and economic patterns such as
population growth, smuggling, and the hato economy persisted decades after his visita
into the nineteenth century Other events helped drive immigration and investment into
Puerto Rico more than O’Reilly’s memoria Ultimately, O’Reilly did not trigger enduring change in the colony’s history, and Puerto Rican historiography awaits the corresponding
