Althusser, Marx e o problema da questão do estado / Althusser, Marx and the problem of the question of the state

Ribeiro, Joanir Fernando, 1982- 26 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Alcides Hector Rodriguez Benoit / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T17:08:24Z (GMT). Dessa forma, procuramos mostrar que Marx pensa a categoria Estado dialeticamente presente-ausente já no primeiro capítulo d¿O Capital / Abstract: Some theories of marxist claim that Marx would be exceeded. According to these marxists, among which Louis Althusser, capitalism would have taken different direction predicted by Marx. Thus, the economic factor would not be the determining factor in the system's playing. Marx allegedly neglected new factors which overlapped the economic and ideological breeding of social relations of domination, including the state capital as administrator. The objective of this research is to perform a dialectical reading of Section I of Book First of the work Marx's Capital, trying to understand the extent to which Marx would have overlooked about a theory of the state in late capitalism. Therefore, we assume that it is possible, through a dialectical exposure, think the category State since the beginning of this work of Marx. The great challenge is to understand Capital presents its exposure method which makes the appearance of the concept of state as whole from the beginning and throughout its development work. Thus, we try to show that Marx thinks the State category dialectically present-absent in the first chapter of Capital / Mestrado / Filosofia / Mestre em Filosofia

Hey, You Monster : Ideological Representation and Resisting Interpellation in Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Fridh, Jenny January 2021 (has links)
This essay discusses the representation of Victorian ideologies and interpellation in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. By utilising Louis Althusser’s theories of ideology and interpellation, in combination with a critical understanding of Victorian ideologies as introduced by Rosemary Jann and Jihay Park, this essay aims to analyse the characters’ representation of and submission versus the resistance to these ideologies. Additionally, by analysing whether the characters conform to the Victorian ideologies, introduced by Jann and Park, this essay proposes that non-conformity to ruling ideologies suggests resistance to interpellation, which is what constitutes a bad subject. This analysis lends itself to the discussion of how Althusser’s theories may be used in literary analyses, as well as to the discussion, initiated by Judith Butler, of whether an individual’s deviation from interpellation is possible. This essay argues that Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Gabriel Utterson represent ideological functions by conforming to the Victorian ideologies, which constitute them as submitting to interpellation as good subjects. However, Mr. Edward Hyde’s non-conformity to Victorian ideologies constitutes him as resisting interpellation as a bad subject.

The Loman family's dreams of success : An analysis of Death of a Salesman through Althusser's theory of ideology

Haile, Haben January 2023 (has links)
This essay aims to analyze the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller from an Althusserian perspective, focusing on his theory on ideology and ideological apparatuses. The theory has been implemented by analyzing the main characters individually to decipher their ideological views and how they have been subjects of interpellation. Furthermore, this essay will attempt to examine which ideological apparatuses are displayed in the play and how they have influenced the characters. According to this interpretation of the play, they all believe success is reachable for everybody, depending on their status and how well-liked and admired they are. Their ideological views differ slightly among each character; however, the fundamental idea that a man is worthy and accomplished only through success is shared by everyone. The ideology that is predominant in the family can be described as the “American dream”. The conclusion is that the most influential interpellation that occurs in the play is from the family ideology apparatus, and that the interpretation of the ideology embraced by the family is what makes them fail to achieve their dreams.

A marxian concept of human nature in defense of alienation a revolutionary exegesis of a revolutionary philosophy

Byron, Christopher 01 May 2012 (has links)
Two long-standing and erroneous claims have plagued Marxism for the past century. First, Marx held no static view of human-nature. Second, Marx's theory of alienation was the naive view of a young Marx, which was jettisoned in his wiser adult years. Both views are demonstrable false. Moreover, the validity of his theory of human nature, and alienation, are contingent upon the acceptance of each other. One cannot fully comprehend his view of alienation without understanding his view of human nature, and vice versa. Upon demonstrating Marx's theory of human nature, and defending it as a crucial bedrock for the theory of alienation, mainstream rejections of each will be considered, and critiqued. The constant misunderstanding of Marx's theory of human nature comes in his unique theory of essence. He is an essentialist, with a fluid conception of man's essence. One's historical essence is an ensemble of socio-historical reflections, dialectically interplaying off a historically transcending essentialism.

The Rational State : A feminist look, supported by Althusser’s Marxist theory, at how Mr. Scogan views and interacts with the women in Aldous Huxley’s Crome Yellow

Modig, Andrew January 2012 (has links)
This paper analyses Mr. Scogan and his treatment of women with the use of Althusser’s Marxist theory which (supposedly and in this case successfully) reveals the ideology which infuses every State and every larger social group. Feminist theory is then used to analyse his philosophy which influences both his utopia, “the Rational State”, as well as his treatment of women – the conclusion drawn after analysing several events or discussions in Crome Yellow, such as on the Home Farm, the Rational State and the Charity Fair was that Mr. Scogan is perhaps not representative of all men and certainly not of men (and men’s notions) at the timeof Crome Yellow’s publication, but he is representative of a stereotypical man who oppress women based on their femininity. The worst case scenario drawn was that Mr. Scogan could be a rapist of young virgins.
