Africa Bling Bling Hakuna Matata: Visuelle Repräsentationen schwarzer Menschen in Schulbüchern des Fachs Musik

Bababoutilabo, Vincent 30 January 2019 (has links)
Racism is a timeworn reality in Germany. But how does it manifest itself in the field of music education, i.e. in schoolbooks? The focus of the work is a quantitative and qualitative empirical investigation of the visual representations of black people in about forty music textbooks, approved in the federal state of Saxony (Germany). The theoretical basis of the analysis are concepts of Paul Mecheril and Stuart Hall (amongst others). 'Africa Bling Bling Hakuna Matata' shows how unequal power relations are (re) produced in music textbooks by referring to potentially racist and stereotyping myths: Black people are not shown in class scenes and are therefore not thought of as subjects of but as objects for educational purposes. In terms of 'music histories' black people are mostly shown in the context of enslavement and colonialism from a Western perspective. In addition, the qualitative analysis shows that above all the compositions of the pictures are stereotypical. One can conclude that the lack of a critical acknowledgement of unequal power relations can lead to the persistence of racist stereotypes. It is therefore necessary not only to discuss the depicted natioethno-cultural entities, their histories, functions, practices etc. in the context of music education, but also to focus the gaze towards them.

Naranjo Ayala, María José 29 November 2021 (has links)
[EN] "Coloniality" is a current cultural ethos that operates both in Spain and in the former Colonies. This influences the Spanish migratory framework, which has a permanent flow of people coming mainly from Africa and Latin America. To understand the contemporary resignifications of these colonial relations based on the inequality between the Global North and the Global South, allows us to understand racism as a system of fictions and an organizing matrix of power with implications at the economic, political, social, cultural, historical and epistemic levels. The growing anti-racist movement in Spain seeks to make visible and eradicate this system of exclusion, fighting for the rights of thousands of migrants from the Global South who live in this territory. For this, they take up reflections given from decolonial theory and feminisms with the purpose of making visible the unequal power relations, with colonial heritage, that operate and affect the lives of migrants and racialized people in Spain. This ethnographic research seeks to understand the migratory networks of women in the Spanish state from the work and experiences of a feminist, anti-racist and decolonial collective that operates in Valencia, "Mujeres con Voz". Where women from the Global South work to break the stereotypes and violence that mediate their experiences and construct themselves as active political subjects in their new society. This research seeks to understand how this migratory network is developed and what it allows, and show what it means for this group to be a migrant and racialized woman in Valencia. The strategies, and spaces of decolonial resistance generated by this group will become visible in a complex migratory context, where the state, legal, and local and global media landscapes generate migratory stereotypes that limit the lives of these women. / Naranjo Ayala, MJ. [pt] AS LITERATURAS INFANTIS AFRICANAS E AFRO-BRASILEIRAS COMO LETRAMENTO RACIAL CRÍTICO E CONSTRUÇÃO DAS IDENTIDADES ÉTNICO-RACIAIS NA EDUCAÇÃO INFANTIL / [en] THE AFRICAN CHILDREN S LITERATURE AND AFRO-BRAZILIAN AS CRITICAL RACIAL LITERACY AND ETHNIC-RACIAL IDENTITIES CONSTRUCTION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

JOICE DA SILVA PEDRO OLIVEIRA 24 March 2022 (has links)
[en] The present dissertation aims to understand how African and AfroBrazilian children s literature can contribute to the development of ethnic-racial education, critical racial literacy and the construction of ethnic-racial identities of students in early childhood education. A qualitative research was carried out, which was developed in two stages: individual semi-structured interviews with 10 teachers and analysis of 6 children s literature books suggested by the study participants. The teachers work in early childhood education, public and private schools, municipalities of the Baixada Fluminense and the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The literary works were written after the promulgation of Law 1.0639/03, present black female characters as protagonists, address as central theme black racial identity and contribute to the (re)knowledge and racial valorization of black children. The data were collected from virtual meetings, which took place synchronously, in August 2021. The methodological strategy of snowball sampling was adopted. The results indicated that the anti-racist perspective is present in the way teachers are located and promote education for ethnic-racial relations and indicated that it is possible to engage in classroom dialogues that promote critical racial literacy, from the use of children s literature books. The educators narratives showed that the literary works, when dealing with themes of history and afrodescendant cultures and present black protagonists and images that value and give visibility to ethnic-racial identity, contribute to the (re)racial knowledge of black children, their identity-building process and their self-esteem in a positive way. In this perspective, the importance of the use of African and Afro-Brazilian children s literature as a facilitator to promote dialogues on race in classes of early childhood education is emphasized, thus enabling that different socio-cultural groups recognize and relate in a harmonious and respectful way.

A study of the challenges of adult learning facilitation in a diverse setting with special reference to Soshanguve

Rivombo, Alfred Mashau 06 1900 (has links)
A critical cross-field outcome of Curriculum 2005 as introduced in South Africa is to work effectively with others as members of a team, group, organization, and community. This research aims at investigating challenges that impede adult learners from diverse backgrounds to work effectively as members of a team, group, organization and community. Informed by models of education in lifelong learning (intercultural, multicultural and anti-racist models of education which supplement andragogy), a qualitative inquiry which followed an active research approach was undertaken in selected adult learning centres in Soshanguve in Gauteng Province to explore the challenges of diversity during adult learning facilitation. Data was gathered from sixteen adult education facilitators from four adult education centres by means of in-depth interviews, follow-up interviews and observational fieldwork. Findings indicated that facilitators require additional knowledge and skills to achieve the objectives of the intercultural, multicultural and anti-racist models of education effectively; senior adult learners require particular attention from facilitators to prevent learner attrition in this age group; linguistic diversity problematises effective intercultural communication, especially where the facilitator is not proficient in learners‟ home languages; and awareness should be raised of the negative impact of inflexible attitudes towards certain aspects of diversity such as religion and sexual orientation on effective teaching and learning. However, positive adult education facilitation practices were also observed. Based on the findings of the literature review and the empirical inquiry recommendations for the improvement of practice were made. / ABET and Youth Development / M. Ed. Autodeterminação em três movimentos: a politização de diferenças sob a perspectiva da (des)naturalização da violência / Self-determination in three movements: the politization of differences under the perspective of the (de)naturalization of violence

Tosold, Léa 31 July 2018 (has links)
In this writingbody, I exam in depth the problem of naturalization of structural violence in order to argue for a (re)new(ed) perspective on the politicization of differences. I suggest a reconceptualization of the politicization of differences as a defense of colle(a)ctive selfdetermination processes through an investigation about the preconditions for the generation of non-hegemonic frames in contexts ruled by structural violence. This thesis is undertaken in three interdependent movements: (3) a philosophical-epistemological-poetical reflexion on the relevance of colle(a)ctive spatialization processes for the experience of temporality; (2) a political-theorical consideration on the relationship between the problem of essentialism and the possibility of subversive colle(a)ctive agency; and (1) a perspective on the con-figura( c)tion of the Munduruku and the riverside peoples (r)existence process to the construction of dams in Middle Tapajós region. I argue that the politicization of differences is conditio sine qua non in order to enable the denaturalization of structural violence, as only (pro)positional colle(a)ctive movements transcend the limits of merely reactive positions, enabling the emergency of images that can call the hegemonic rule into question and, therefore, initiate processes of structural trans-formation.

Examining the Wrongs Against the Present African Women: An Enquiry on Black Women’s Roles and Contributions from Antiquity - A Black African Male Scholarly Comparative Perspective

Cankech, Onencan Apuke 22 July 2010 (has links)
The thesis examined the roles and contributions of Black women during the African ancient civilization by analyzing the lives, roles and contributions of Queen Hatshepsut and Nefertiti as case studies and interrogates how Black women positioned themselves as political, military and spiritual leaders during the age of antiquity. The argument is that African women were more involved as leaders in the affairs of their communities as compared to the contemporary times. By using African centered paradigms, Afrocentricity and juxtaposing robust anti-colonial and Black feminist thoughts, the thesis investigates and recreates systematic narratives of the past roles of African women at the very height of African civilization, discussed the changes in sex-gender roles and explained why contemporary women continue to experience difficulties in assessing position of leadership and resources. The study reproduces measured facts to confront the blurred roles and contributions of African women and situates it at the centre of education.
