Fusion, exponence, and flexivity in Hindukush languages : An areal-typological study

Surrounding the Hindukush mountain chain is a stretch of land where as many as 50 distinct languages varieties of several language meet, in the present study referred to as “The Greater Hindukush” (GHK). In this area a large number of languages of at least six genera are spoken in a multi-linguistic setting. As the region is in part characterised by both contact between languages as well as isolation, it constitutes an interesting field of study of similarities and diversity, contact phenomena and possible genealogical connections. The present study takes in the region as a whole and attempts to characterise the morphology of the many languages spoken in it, by studying three parameters: phonological fusion, exponence, and flexivity in view of grammatical markers for Tense-Mood-Aspect, person marking, case marking, and plural marking on verbs and nouns. The study was performed with the perspective of areal typology, employed grammatical descriptions, and was in part inspired by three studies presented in the World Atlas of Language Structures (WALS). It was found that the region is one of high linguistic diversity, even if there are common traits, especially between languages of closer contact, such as the Iranian and the Indo-Aryan languages along the Pakistani-Afghan border where purely concatenative formatives are more common. Polyexponential formatives seem more common in the western parts of the GHK as compared to the eastern. High flexivity is a trait common to the more central languages in the area. As the results show larger variation than the WALS studies, the question was raised of whether large-scale typological studies can be performed on a sample as limited as single grammatical markers. Nominal plurality in languages of the Greater Hindukush / Nominal pluralitet i språk som talas i Greater Hindukush

The Greater Hindukush is an area that stretches from northwestern–central Afghanistan, through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit–Baltistan of Pakistan and to Kashmir in northwestern India. It is home to some fifty languages of various genera including Indo-Aryan, Iranian, Nuristani, Tibeto- Burman, Turkic and the isolate Burushaski. It has long been of interest in areal typology, and there has been some discussion of phonological and lexical features shared between the languages, presumed to have evolved due to language contiguity and contact. The purpose of the present study is to research a grammatical feature, namely the plural marking of common nouns, in a selection of languages spoken in the Greater Hindukush area, and to discuss its salience as an areal or sub-areal feature. Several grammars have been consulted in the extraction and analysis of all relevant information on nominal plurality in the languages. The results indicate a correlation between stem modification as a means of marking nouns for plural, as well as optionality in the overt plural marking, and the contiguity of some languages. Conclusively, stem change as a method of expression displays some moderate degree of areality, while optionality of nominal plural marking in particular is suggested as a sub-areal feature of the area. / Greater Hindukush är ett område som sträcker sig från nordvästra–centrala Afghanistan, genom Khyber Pakhtunkhwa och Gilgit–Baltistan i Pakistan, till Kashmir i nordvästra Indien. Ett femtiotal språk av olika språkfamiljer, inklusive de indoariska, iranska, nuristanska, tibetoburmanska och turkiska samt isolatspråket burushaski, talas i området. Området har länge forskats på i arealtypologiska sammanhang, i vilka ett antal fonologiska och lexikala drag som delas mellan språken har diskuterats och antagits ha utvecklats till följd av närbelägenhet och språkkontakt. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka ett grammatiskt drag, nämligen pluralismarkering på substantiv, i ett urval av språk som talas i Greater Hindukush-området, samt att diskutera dess signifikans som arealt eller subarealt drag. All relevant information som berör nominal pluralitet i språken i samplet har extraherats från ett flertal grammatiska beskrivningar och analyserats för vidare jämförelse och diskussion. Resultaten indikerar en korrelation mellan mekanismen stamförändring som nominal pluralismarkör, liksom valfrihet i markeringen, och närbelägenhet mellan några av språken. Paikkatietoon perustuva reitinoptimointi metsäninventoinnin työkaluna Suomessa:menetelmän kehittäminen ja sen hyödyllisyyden arviointi

Abstract Cross-country route optimization, particularly from a pedestrian’s perspective, is a relatively uncommon research topic that has many application possibilities. In this research, route optimization is examined in the context of forest inventories. The background for the research is the change in the forest data collection practices carried out by the Finnish Forest Centre. In this new inventory procedure, targets to be inventoried in the field are often located far apart from each other. The research indicated that the collection of data from sparsely distributed targets is comparatively inefficient. In order to address this issue, a method allowing the traversability of cross-country terrain to be expressed in a numeric form was developed such that it makes cross-country route optimization possible. In addition, a method for the determination of a route inside an areal object, allowing the collection of reliable inventory data from the target, was constructed in the study. Finally, the route optimization method developed in the study was tested in actual field work. The main hypothesis for the research was that it is possible to apply the route optimization method to forest inventory, and that it would be considered useful. The result of the study was that the method is, indeed, suitable for forest data collection. However, the results also suggested that route optimization does not necessarily make the work more efficient, but its utility depends on the qualities of the field workers and the area where the targets are located. The results have both theoretical and practical significance. The route optimization system constructed in the study is the most accurate national system realized thus far which has also been tested and evaluated in actual field work. A number of ancillary GIS-based analyses for route optimization were also developed in the study, and they turned out to be suitable for the calculation of inventory routes for field workers. A new route optimization problem, coined as the Areal Inventory Problem (AIP), was defined during the research. While the route optimization procedure developed in the study can be put into operation in the forest data collection practices of the Finnish Forest Centre, many of its principles are also applicable to purposes outside the domain of forestry. Data needed in other applications can be tailored using the methods presented in this research. Several prospects and needs for further research and development were recognized. By addressing these questions, the route optimization procedure can be further improved, while also strengthening the theoretical knowledge concerning cross-country route optimization. / Tiivistelmä Reitinoptimointi maastossa, etenkin jalankulkijan näkökulmasta, on melko vähän tutkittu aihe, jolla on erilaisia sovellusmahdollisuuksia. Tässä tutkimuksessa reitinoptimointia on tarkasteltu metsäninventoinnin näkökulmasta. Tutkimuksen taustana on Suomen metsäkeskuksen metsävaratiedon keruun menetelmien uudistuminen, jonka myötä maastossa inventoidaan hajallaan sijaitsevia kohteita. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin, että hajallaan sijaitsevien kohteiden inventointi on melko tehotonta. Tämän vuoksi kehitettiin menetelmä, jossa maaston kulkukelpoisuutta voidaan kuvata numeerisessa muodossa niin, että se mahdollistaa reitinoptimoinnin. Lisäksi luotiin menetelmä, jolla voidaan tuottaa inventointireitti aluemaisen kohteen sisälle niin, että kohteelta voidaan kerätä riittävän luotettavat tiedot. Lopuksi menetelmää testattiin metsävaratiedon keruun tuotantotyössä. Hypoteesina oli, että reitinoptimointia on mahdollista soveltaa metsäninventoinnissa ja että menetelmä koettaisiin hyödylliseksi. Tutkimuksessa vahvistettiin menetelmän soveltuvuus metsäninventointiin. Samalla havaittiin, ettei reitinoptimointia voida aukottomasti todistaa työtä tehostavaksi, vaan sen hyödyllisyys riippuu maastotyöntekijän ja maastotyöalueen ominaisuuksista. Tutkimustuloksilla on sekä teoreettista että käytännöllistä merkitystä. Tutkimuksessa luotiin tähän mennessä tarkin kotimainen reitinoptimointimenetelmä, jota on myös testattu maastossa. Samalla kehitettiin reitinoptimointiin liittyviä paikkatietomenetelmiä ja havaittiin, että paikkatietojärjestelmällä on mahdollista tuottaa maastotyöntekijän apuvälineeksi sopivia inventointireittejä. Tutkimuksen aikana määriteltiin uusi reitinlaskentaongelma, aluemaisen kohteen inventoinnin ongelma (AIP). Reitinoptimointimenetelmä on otettavissa käyttöön metsävaratiedon keruussa Suomen metsäkeskuksessa, ja sitä voidaan soveltaa myös metsäalan ulkopuolella. Tutkimuksessa esitellyillä menetelmillä voidaan tuottaa sovellustarvetta vastaavat aineistot reitinlaskennan lähtötiedoiksi. Tutkimuksessa tunnistettiin monia jatkotutkimus- ja kehittämistarpeita. Näihin kysymyksiin vastaamalla voidaan luoda yhä paremmin toimiva työkalu metsävaratiedon keruun apuvälineeksi ja syventää edelleen teoreettista tietämystä reitinoptimoinnista maastossa.

Ängsarealens förändring i norra Skåne med nedslag i årtalet 1910 : en studie av ängens utveckling på sockennivå / How the extent of meadowland farming came to change in the north of Scania with an inpact made in the year of 1910 : a study based on the development of meadows within the foundation of parishes

Under 1700- och 1800-talet genomgick jordbruket omfattande förändringar som bottnade i ett behov av att utöka odlingsmarker men framför allt effektivisera jordbruket. Utvecklingen kom att betyda ett minskat behov av ängsmarker. Enligt tidigare forskning av Skåne var utvecklingen långsammare i de skånska skogsbygderna där ängsbruket vidhölls längre än de andra bygdetyperna.   Studien syftar således till att kartlägga de faktorer som varit särskilt betydande för ängsarealens utveckling i norra Skåne under den industriella revolutionen men även under den agrara revolutionen. För möjligheten att bedriva en övergripande undersökning har ett nedslag i tid gjorts – år 1910. Socknar som endast utgörs av höglänt landskap valdes ut att ingå i undersökningen. Med hjälp av tidigare forskning togs variablerna åker, vallodling, djurhållning och skiftesreform fram. Jordbruksstatistik från varje undersökningsområde i form av sockenareal, ängsareal, åkerareal, skörd från vallodling och antal djur hämtades från BiSOS (Bidrag till Sveriges officiella jordbruksstatistik). Statistik över skiftade byar hämtades från Lantmäteriets söktjänst Historiska kartor. Diverse uträkningar gjordes utifrån statistiken för att jämföra variablernas betydelse för ängens utbredning inom varje undersökningsområde.   I resultatet framgick att åkerarealen haft direkt påverkan på ängsarealens utbredning. Vallodling och djurhållning påverkades av åkerarealens utbredning och var därmed mer indirekt påverkande. Undersökningen av skiftesreformernas påverkan på ängsarealen visade att det inte finns ett samband mellan genomförd skiftesreform och ängsareal inom det höglänta landskapet. Med det inte sagt att skiftesreformerna inte hade betydelse för minskningen av äng. Vidare bekräftade resultatet att laga skiftet varit den dominerande skiftesreformen och att flest skiften genomfördes mellan årtalen 1827–1869. / Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries agriculture encountered an extensive conversion due to urgent expansion of croplands. The conversion was essential in establishing an efficient way in land cultivation additionally leading to decrease of meadowland farming.   Recent research of Scania showed that woodlands had a continuance of meadowland farming compared to other regions of landscapes. This study intent to map out reasons contributing to the decrease of meadowland in the north of Scania during the industrial revolution but also the agricultural revolution. An impact in time was chosen to accomplish a study covering a widely spread area – the year 1910. Study sites were defined to parishes exclusively including highland lands. Based on previous research the variables cropland, grassland, livestock and enclosure of farmlands were selected. Statistics of agriculture was collected from BiSOS (Contribution to Sweden’s official agricultural statistics) in distinction to each studied parish. Statistics of enclosure was collected from the search service Historic maps by The Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority. Several calculations based on the statistics were accomplished to show how the variables affected the acres of meadowland.   According to the result croplands were the main affecting variable. Grassland and livestock had a secondary affect due to their depending on the extent of cropland. Furthermore, there was no indication that enclosure directly altered the meadowland farming within the highlands of Scania and not generally for Scania. Additionally, enclosure by law was the dominating form and most were achieved during the years of 1827-1869.

Osäkerhet vid fotogrammetrisk kartering med UAS och naturliga stödpunkter

En karta är en färskvara som är i ständigt behov av ajourhållning. Ajourhållning görs normalt med traditionella metoder: fotogrammetriska och/eller geodetiska. Men i och med att utvecklingen går framåt har intresset för en ny metod, UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems), ökat. UAS är en relativt ny fotogrammetrisk metod där obemannade flygfarkoster används. Detta examensarbete har utvärderat vilken osäkerhet vanligt förekommande detaljer i en karta kan få i framställda "produkter" som genererats med hjälp av UAS-bilder som georefererats med naturliga stödpunkter. Produkterna som framställdes var en digital ytmodell och ett ortofoto och togs fram i datorprogrammet Agisoft Photoscan. Bilderna som bearbetades i denna studie erhölls från Swecos UAS-flygning och var tagna över deponiområdet Fågelmyra i Ornäs, Dalarnas län. I den digitala ytmodellen och i ortofotot mättes detaljer in för att sedan kontrolleras mot kontrollpunkter inmätta med nätverks-RTK (Real-Time Kinematic). Studien visade att detaljer inmätta i den digitala ytmodellen och ortofotot resulterade i en osäkerhet på 0,28 m respektive 0,08 m i plan. Varför osäkerheterna skiljer sig mellan den digitala ytmodellen och ortofotot kan ha att göra med att det är svårt att identifiera objekt i den digitala ytmodellen. Utifrån denna studie kan det konstateras att UAS och georeferering med naturliga stödpunkter lämpar sig för kartering av mindre områden. Dessutom kan det konstateras att UAS är effektiv och relativt enkel teknik. / A map is in constant need of being updated. Map updating is normally performed with traditional methods such as photogrammetric and/or geodetic. But by technical development the interest in new methods has increased, like in UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems). UAS is a relatively new photogrammetric method using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The purpose of this study is to evaluate what uncertainty common details in a map can get in "products" generated from UAS images georeferenced with natural ground control points. The products that were generated was a digital surface model and an orthophoto and was produced in the software Agisoft Photoscan. The images that were processed in this study were obtained from Sweco’s UAS flight and taken over landfill area Fågelmyra in Ornäs, Dalarna county. In the digital surface model and the orthophoto details were measured and controlled against check points surveyed with Network RTK (Real-Time Kinematic). The study has shown that the surveyed details in the digital surface model and ortohophoto resulted in a planimetric uncertainty of 0.28 m and 0.08 m, respectively. The reason for why the uncertainties for the digital surface model and orthophoto are different may be that it is difficult to identify objects in the digital surface model. Based on this study it can be concluded that UAS and georeferencing with natural ground control points is suitable for mapping of smaller areas. In addition, it can be concluded that UAS is efficient and relatively easy technique.

The topic of the diploma thesis is the design of the Luzanky sport complex in Brno. The main objective of the diploma project was to create a new modern sport recreation area which will be situated next to the existing swimming pool. The main function is an aquapark with indoor and outdoor pools, which will fulfil all needs of visitors. There are few other functions added, such as café, smaller fitness and massages. Absolutely main objective is to connect the existing pool with the pools of the Aquapark - so the visitors could be using all indoor swimming areas. There are also parking spots designed within this project - nearby is a parking garage connected by footbridge leading from the existing swimming pool alongside the Aquapark building. This footbridge is intended for people who come to Brno to the Aquapark - for families with children that is - therefore it ensures safe and uninterrupted crossing from the garage to the new Aquapark complex. This complex will meet the requirements and current expectations of the visitors in the area. It will also increase the attractiveness of the entire territory.

This master’s thesis includes an overview of profile method of surface texture evaluation according to ISO standards and VDA automotive standards, as well as an overview of areal method according to ISO 25178 standard series, which includes a proposal for improvement of czech terminology. Suitability of application of selected measurement methods for measurement of a portfolio of automotive parts was evaluated based on measurements carried out using a contact profiler, a coherence scanning interferometer and a confocal microscope. Further recommendations for practice in surface texture metrology were also formulated. A regression analysis of the relationship between values of selected profile surface texture parameters and their areal equivalents was also performed. Its results may aid the spread of areal surface texture evaluation in the industry.
