Em busca do consenso: Milton Nascimento e a perda dos laços comunitários / Seeking consensus: Milton Nascimento and the loss of community ties

Vinícius José Fecchio Gueraldo 30 October 2017 (has links)
This study aims to analyze the LongPlay (LP) that consolidated the musician and composer Milton Nascimento as a successfull artist, both of critical and sales: the album Minas (EMI-Odeon, 1975). For structural reasons, essentially musical and poetic, the LP Minas is inseparable of his next album, the LP Geraes (EMI-Odeon, 1976). Together they compose a curious case of a \"double-album,\" whose fundamental structure - as demonstrated throughout this research - is an attempt to put together social and aesthetic structures of different sources. Once the logic or the aesthetic principle, that organizes this set of songs is settled, in other words, the seek for consensus, then, the historical material condensed in the phonograms is investigated. According to the narrative that is established in the course of the tracks, it is verified that a possible meaning for this work of art is the defense of a \"not so modern modernity\". By presenting several references, sometimes explicit, to national history, it is concluded that the mentioned period corresponds to the beginning of the process of Brazilian industrialization.

Atravessamentos feministas: um panorama de mulheres artistas no Brasil dos anos 60/70 / Feminist crossings: a panorama of women artists in Brazil from the 60s/70s

Trizoli, Talita 06 July 2018 (has links)
In this PHD Dissertation, I make a critical analysis of Brazilian artistic production in traffic of the 60 to 70 of the twentieth century, within the assumptions of feminist theories of cultural criticism, emphasizing the possibilities of female subjectivity by artistic practice. To be more specific, I am concerned here with some work done by thirty women artists working in this period, contemporary with each other and to the advent of the second feminism wave in the country, involving the aesthetic and plastic concerns in vogue, and that allow the approach of a feminist criticism, since they worki with body and identity issues, which mainly cover the limits and/or possibilities of subjective processes from the perspective of confrontations and subversions of the genre.

Jean-Baptiste de Lagoy (1764-1829). Un amateur de dessins provençal entre deux siècles / Jean-Baptiste de Lagoy (1764-1829), a Provence collector of drawings, a life spanning two centuries

Moustier, Béatrice de 08 January 2019 (has links)
Jean-Baptiste de Lagoy (1764-1829), came from the rich Provence aristocracy. In his family manor at Arles, he devoted himself to the literary pastime of bibliophilia and built up his knowledge. He was forced out of Provence by the Revolution. He took refuge in Paris and organised his cabinet rue Caumartin. He acquired around 2,500 drawings in the space of twenty years. In a private sociable space, he demonstrated his expertise, and implements criteria, based on reflections on art which enabled attributions to be made, by way of comparison, and deciding who could be admitted into this circle. He bought medallions, "fine books", and drawings. Within this inner circle, Lagoy met people who sold him sheets of drawings from all the different schools and visitors who came to buy drawings from him. Clarac, one of Lagoy's close friends and an art critic, set out to establish the social figure of the connoisseur through two visited collections in Paris. His works had to be organised as opposed to the crowding together and confusion of the mere amateur collector. Expressing his taste, in terms of beauty and ugliness, the aesthetic, spontaneous, and subjective experience of pleasure or displeasure, was the way in which Clarac could express his visual experience when visiting the collections. Lagoy, in a handwritten inventory, classified his collection in terms of history and evolution, his taste informing his choices, and he highlighted the notion of "progress of the arts", a concept that was popular with theorists of the period, demonstrating how he was in tune with historical research.

The aim of this PhD thesis is to collect, analyse and promote the content ofunpublished international and family archives, highlighting the diversity of MichelTapié de Céleyran (1909-1987)’s activities. Tapié invented his own trade as an artentrepreneur, mixing several occupations: art critic, publisher, art councillor, trader and collector. He also connected together international galleries, organising exhibitions of his own artists, worldwide. He took part in the international fate of more than 180 artists, forming Tapié’s constellation, in which some names still shine more that others, such as Dubuffet, Mathieu, Pollock, Riopelle, Sam Francis, Tapiès, Saura, Fontana, De Kooning.Paying close attention to his own status in the current events and in history, Tapié invented « An Art of an Other Kind », which is a true theoretical and tradingsystem. Thus, he relied on communication methods that he created with the help ofhis battle friends: publishing for self promotion, creating a buzz based on travelling exhibitions, with media coverage in France, Spain, United States, Italy, Japan and Iran.« Il Profeta » was the nickname attributed to him by Italian artists, seduced by Michel Tapié’s personality, who came to Italy and brought in the Informal art’s word, which he invented the designation.

The Reception of the avant-garde in the Political Press in France, from Impressionism to Fauvism (1874-1905)

Marre, Oriane 27 June 2016 (has links)
In this thesis we study how the artistic avant-garde was perceived by the political press in France during the first thirty years of the Third Republic. We propose to question the notion of avant-garde by studying it through the political prism, trying to ascertain what the artists’ politically aware contemporaries used to consider avant-garde art. We do not focus on the political commitments of the artists, but on the way their art was perceived. We chose to consider a rather long period of time, ranging from 1874 to 1905, from Impressionism to Post-impressionism. The first exhibition of the impressionist group took place just after the Third Republic was proclaimed, on the 4th of September 1870, and the unsuccessful attempt to restore the Monarchy in 1873, but before the Wallon amendment voted in 1875, which formalized the establishment of the Republic. We study its reception both in the wake of the establishment of the Republic and as this political regime settles in France, when the Republicans cease to be part of the opposition and start leading the country. Analysing the reception of the art movements emerging in the late 1880’s allows us to grasp how the political audience reacted to the artistic production from the Moderate Republican government to the Radicals’ – formerly called intransigeants in the late 1870’s. Although the purpose of the political press was not to discuss art per se, it still reported artistic and political events, hierarchically presenting them on a daily basis. Acting as a powerful tool to explore the expectations and reactions of its intended politically aware readers, the political press remains a very relevant source for art historians.

Farias de Carvalho, Humberto 21 November 2022 (has links)
[EN] The aim of this doctoral research is to assert that the activity of the conservator of museological institutions is of great importance, emanating from a paradigm shift that places the conservator at the centre of discussions regarding decision-making on works of art belonging to the collections of these institutions. Starting from the presupposition that it is possible, by analogy, to compare the museum institution to an ecosystem, that is, as a larger system made up of several minor systems, it is intended to examine the relationships between conservators, acting within a specific subsystem, and various individuals acting within other subsystems. Museums, like other social fields, are spaces of social interaction in which hierarchical structures of power can generate conflicts between the individuals who participate in them. The acknowledgement of this exposes various problems that can affect works of art, from acquisition, through to conservation and storage and restoration itself, and even the exhibition of these works, amongst other things. As an alternative, it is proposed that the conservator must be recognised as a kind of manager, who seeks to react to the various problems related to the decision-making process for the benefit of the works of art. The hypothesis asserts that the conservator, as an individual possessing the power to operate as a political interlocutor at the interface between the various subsystems of the museum system, is the person best-placed to lead discussions and give opinions on the various aspects related to the objects that confer an identity upon the museum institution. Thus, the proposed paradigm shift can contribute to the balance of the museum ecosystem, to the benefit of all those who share working relationships there, in search of the common good. / Farias De Carvalho, H. L’École des lettres. Correspondances amicales entre jeunes artistes : Alain-Fournier, Jacques Rivière, André Lhote (1904-1914) / An epistolary art school. Friendship correspondences between young artists : Alain-Fournier, Jacques Rivière, André Lhote (1904-1914)

Carré, Juliette 28 March 2014 (has links)
Alain-Fournier and Jacques Rivière exchanged many letters from 1904 to 1914. Painter André Lhote joined them in 1907. This thesis postulates that their correspondences, because they were written out of friendship, played a part in their education as future artists. The context of the encounter between the three youngsters is determined by what Jean-François Sirinelli calls « sociability structures » : the first one is the Rhétorique Supérieure class in Lakanal, where Rivière and Fournier meet, the second one is Gabriel Frizeau’s salon in Bordeaux, where Rivière meets Lhote. Exploring literature and culture, reading and seeing a part of what their time had to offer, gives solid foundations to their friendship, and leads to the extension of their sociability network. This being laid out, one can define the features of the letter writers’ friendship. It obeys the criteria of perfect friendship as it was described by tradition : friends are equals and their relationship is based on trading and sharing. But the three young men are also friends because they have a common passion for arts. Their friendly pact thus influences their epistolary pact : a friendship letter, being defined by its variety, allows writers to criticize each other’s work, to give theoretical exposés and to practice creative writing. That is why these correspondences can be called a school for artists : there, the three young men can build their own identities which allow them to find their place into the artistic field. They also form vitalist aesthetic principles and their own writing styles. Letters thus appear as a laboratory where they can try to write novels, essays or art critic.

Berta Zuckerkandl (1864 -1945) salonnière, journaliste et critique d'art, entre Vienne et Paris (1871-1918) / Berta Zuckerkandl (1864-1945) salonnière, journalist and art critic, between Vienna and Paris (1871-1918)

Weirich, Armelle 07 November 2014 (has links)
At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, Berta Zuckerkandl (1864-1945), Austrian salonnière and journalist, engaged actively in artistic, cultural and political exchanges between France and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Being on familiar terms with Georges Clemenceau gave her the opportunity to exchange ideas with artists and intellectuals in Paris, including Rodin, Carriere, Raffaelli, and Geffroy. Her salon in Vienna gathered some of the most pioneering personalities of the Wiener Moderne...- Bahr, Klimt, Wagner, Mahler...- and thus formed the centre of a vast social network within Europe. Being a spokeswoman of the Vienna Secession, Zuckerkandl established herself as one of the most active contemporary art critics. She guided artists and introduced the public into modern art by drawing on French initiatives to influence the art's development. The present study thus aims at highlighting her role in the dynamic artistic exchange between Vienna and Paris. It will first present Zuckerkandl's biography in order to draw attention to her privileged position in the exchange of the French and Austrian cultures. Secondly, it will show her impact on artistic Austrian groups and provide a detailed analysis of a corpus of selected documents dealing with modern art. It will finally discuss her interventions in favour of French artists and the reception of their works in Austria by highlighting the artistic, cultural and political aims pursued by Zuckerkandl, who was determined to preserve the Austrian culture despite the war and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
