Karlsson, Josefine January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to study how the memory of the artist John Bauer is manifested by businesses and places around the city of Jönköping. This was done by observing how John Bauer’s memory is used in five different places as well as through dialogue with spokespersons from these five businesses to gather further information. The places examined in the study are the following: Länsmuseet's exhibition called "Follow John", John Bauer’s Park, John Bauer hotel, Bauergården and Trolska boat trips. The questions that the study intends to answer are how and why the memory of John Bauer is used around Jönköping. The companies' use of John Bauer has been analysed with the help of Karlsson’s typology of the use of history, but it was not enough to apply that theory alone. A site perspective on the use of history taken by Niels Kayser Nielsen was used to create further understanding. The result shows that there are both similarities and differences in the said actors’ use of the memory. All actors use the theme of forest and trolls to convey information about Bauer's artistic inspiration. The theme, on the other hand, is used more or less where Bauergården weaves it into the meals while the John Bauer–hotel only elevates it into the interior. There is also a focus on using the places where John Bauer took inspiration for his paintings, both in the forest and in the places he has lived. However, this also differs a lot between the actors as some build their entire business around the specific location and others do not.

The White International: anatomy of a transnational radical revisionist plot in Central Europe after World War I.

Alforde, Nicholas January 2013 (has links)
The denial of defeat, the harsh Versailles Treaty and unsuccessful attempts by paramilitary units to recover losses in the Baltic produced in post-war Germany an anti-Bolshevik, anti-Entente, radical right-wing cabal of officers with General Ludendorff and Colonel Bauer at its core. Mistakenly citing a lack of breadth as one of the reason for the failure of their amateurishly executed Hohenzollern restoration and Kapp Putsch schemes, Bauer and co-conspirator Ignatius Trebitsch-Lincoln devised the highly ambitious White International plot. It sought to form a transnational league of Bavaria, Austria and Hungary to force the annulment of the Paris Treaties by the coordinated use of paramilitary units from the war vanquished nations. It set as its goals the destruction of Bolshevism in all its guises throughout Europe, the restoration of the monarchy in Russia, the systematic elimination of all Entente-sponsored Successor States and the declaration of war on the Entente. Archival documents, memoirs and other sources expose the underlying flaw in the plot: individual national priorities would always override transnational cooperation. Bavaria and Hungary were already seeking treaty revision through a rapprochement with the Entente; White Russian forces had turned from German support in favour of the French; and finally¿as pointed out by their own leaders¿the member states¿ paramilitary units were either untested or wholly ineffective, and thus would be no match for the national armies of the Successor States and the Entente.

Motiviert statt resigniert: eine empirisch-theologische Untersuchung der Motivation ehrenamlicher Suchtkrankenhelfer im Club29 in Munchen / Motivated instead of resigned: empirical-theological research on the motivation of voluntary addict assistants at Club29 in Munich

Lippek, Michael 01 1900 (has links)
Just as varied as the tasks are for unpaid volunteer work, the potential motives are equally as diverse. This research will examine which motives are critical, for women and men of various ages in positions of leadership, to serve faithfully for years in institutions for addicts and not to resign. From guided interviews, it can be seen to what degree Christian motives form a foundation for this volunteer work. Joachim Bauer’s neurobiological research of “human motivation systems” supplies us with key indicators. The interviews will be performed using a method of thematic content analysis and then rated. In conclusion, proposals for handling volunteers working in the area of assisting addicts will be provided. This qualitative study will contribute new insights about the motivation of volunteers in facilities for addicts in an area that is yet to be explored using this approach. / Njengoba kunemisebenzi ehlukahlukene njengemisebenzi yamavolontiya angakhokhelwa, izisusa zakhona ezibalulekile zibanzi. Materializing. / Matrialisering.

Persson, Matilda January 2018 (has links)
This project is about how we can create architecture that hold the same atmospheric qualities as a tale. By using different media like film, dioramas and technology the tales have been analysed for qualities that have been carried through into architecture. The blend of the real and the unreal is central to any tale and so also to my project; this mixed expression is carried through into the resulting structure. The final product becomes a bath house full of expression, impressions and varying realities.

Paul Renner and Futura: The Effects of Culture, Technology, and Social Continuity on the Design of Type for Printing

Leonard, Charles C. 12 January 2006 (has links)
This thesis reviews the circumstances that led to what Paul Renner called “the inflation of historicism,” places his response to that problem in the context of the Weimar Republic, details how the German attributes with which he began the project were displaced from the typeface that emerged in 1927, demonstrates that Futura belongs to a new category of serif-less roman fonts rooted in Arts and Crafts lettering, and considers why the specifically German aspects of the project have gone unrecognized for over seventy years. Renner’s writing is compared to ideas prevalent in early twentieth-century German cultural discourse, and Futura’s design process is placed in the context of Renner’s personal experience of Weimar’s social and economic crises. Objective measurements are employed to establish the relationship between drawings attributed to Renner and are used to compare features of Futura with other fonts of the period.
