Yaw Rate and Lateral Acceleration Sensor Plausibilisation in an Active Front Steering Vehicle

Accurate measurements from sensors measuring the vehicle's lateral behavior are vital in todays vehicle dynamic control systems such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP). This thesis concerns accurate plausibilisation of two of these sensors, namely the yaw rate sensor and the lateral acceleration sensor. The estimation is based on Kalman filtering and culminates in the use of a 2 degree-of-freedom nonlinear two-track model describing the vehicle lateral dynamics. The unknown and time-varying cornering stiffnesses are adapted while the unknown yaw moment of inertia is estimated. The Kalman filter transforms the measured signals into a sequence of residuals that are then investigated with the aid of various change detection methods such as the CuSum algorithm. An investigation into the area of adaptive thresholding has also been made. The change detection methods investigated successfully detects faults in both the yaw rate and the lateral acceleration sensor. It it also shown that adaptive thresholding can be used to improve the diagnosis system. All of the results have been evaluated on-line in a prototype vehicle with real-time fault injection.

This is a case study of Taiwan¡¦s bicycle industry. With the view of international standards we tried to explore the integration of the new product development process in Taiwan¡¦s bicycle industry. We have found that Taiwan¡¦s assemblers and components suppliers are parallel connected to interact with foreign buyers simultaneously. And all the R&D services to which every member offered are finally integrated under the instructions of the foreign buyers. We describe such a cooperation mode as ¡¥Parallel Connecting New Product Development Process¡¦. We argue that this new kind of cooperation mode is better than the traditional sequential staging model that is represented as ¡¥vertical connecting¡¦ cooperation mode in innovation flexibility and speed because of the communication efficiency and convenience to the OEM buyers. In this thesis we will describe the new product development interactions among the foreign buyers, components suppliers and the assemblers. And we will also discuss the competitive advantages and the causes of such a new cooperation mode. With this kind of cooperation mode we also discuss the R&D management implications for the small and medium sized enterprises in Taiwan. We argue that this new kind of cooperation mode can bring a new management implication to the small and medium sized enterprises in Taiwan, which is different from the main argument in the literature of strategic flexibility.

Vibration Transmission To Bicycle And Rider:a Field And A Laboratory Study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the frequency and amplitude characteristics of vibration exposed to the bicycle and the rider as well as the features of the vibration transmission to the riders&amp / #8217 / body. The findings showed that, vibration transmission to the bicycle and the rider is effective in x-and z axis. As a result of increased roughness, effective frequency range shifted to lower frequencies between 15-30Hz at both saddle and stem. The severity of transmitted vibration to the bicycle was found to be considerably higher in road bike trials (up to 25 ms-2). The frequency range of the vibration exposure of the body parts were in between 0-30Hz and independent of the level of vibration transmission the peak values were within the range of 3-12Hz. As the acceleration magnitude increased depending on road roughness, normalized rms EMG values also increased up to 50% in forearm extensor muscles during MTB trials and in the flexor muscles during road bike trials. With respect to no vibration trials, rms EMG values increased in order to maintain the same force output. Vibration transmission to the body tends to be amplified with increased force production. Transmission values were found to be higher at lower frequencies. Since the magnitude and frequency of vibration is known to have some adverse effects on body functions such as impaired breathing pattern and increased muscle tone, vibration transmitted to the body might be considered to influence the riding comfort, controllability and overall health of the cyclist.

A glimpse of Bike-n-Bus: an exploratory survey of the United States

Bike-n-Bus includes any number of methods where bicycle serves as the access mode to some form of bus transit. This study examines bike-n-bus operations in the United States based on telephone interviews with transit professionals from 33 transit agencies across the lower 48 states. It reviews past trends in research and gives some history of bike-n-bus in the U.S. and abroad. A brief explanation of methodology is followed by a description of the various facets of U.S. bike-n-bus operations, based on both interviews and the literature, with commentary by survey respondents. The study ends with a long term vision for bike-n-bus based on the characteristics of that mode-couple. Conclusions are addressed to various audiences: transit agency, community leader/ policy maker, and researcher. Included are suggestions for possible next steps in research and implementation. These findings would be of interest to those studying transit and bicycle travel, developing travel demand models, managing a transit agency, or those with influence over bicycle policy and infrastructure. Most transit agencies have installed front-mounted bicycle racks on their entire bus fleet, and expressed satisfaction that the amenity accommodates bicyclists. However, agencies have made only moderate efforts to follow-up on this success. Studies suggest that cycling to transit can be competitive with the private automobile in journey-to-work trips and attracts new riders to transit. Better bicycling infrastructure is the most significant way to increase the number of bike-n-bus riders. However, transit agencies seem reluctant to support these improvements.

Der Radweg Berlin–Dresden ist ein Routenvorschlag für Fahrradtouren zwischen Berlin und Dresden, der seit 2012 von Mitgliedern des Allgemeinen Deutschen Fahrrad-Clubs (ADFC) ausgearbeitet wird. Die Route streckt sich über 251km zwischen der Frauenkirche in Dresden und dem Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. Eine Beschilderung der Route wird langfristig angestrebt. Obwohl die Strecke heute nur „auf dem Papier“ existiert, ist sie schon gut befahrbar: Alle Wege (bis auf kleine unvermeidbare Lücken) sind asphaltiert oder gut verdichtet und frei oder wenig belastet vom motorisierten Verkehr. Comprehensive on-street bicycle facilities: an approach for incorporating traffic signal operational strategies for bicycles

Less than 1% of work and school trips are completed by bicycle in the United States. Comprehensive bicycle facilities improve bicycle ridership by including a diverse set of strategies that accommodate the bicycle mode and seek to minimize the Level of Traffic Stress experienced by riders. Traffic Signal Operational Strategies for Bicycles (TSOSB) are an integral component of comprehensive bicycle facilities. This research presents a methodology to identify critical zones for implementation of TSOSB. After identifying critical zones a process for assessment of gaps in bicycle safety and comfort and convenience for signalized intersections within the critical zones is conducted. The outcome of the methodology is a prioritized list of signalized intersection that could benefit from the application of Traffic Signal Operational Strategies for Bicycles
