Advantages and disadvantages of Croatia in the European Union: integration or submission from the stand point of national sovereignty?Adilson Prizmic Momce 13 June 2013 (has links)
This research raises the formative elements of Croatian national identity; makes a follow-up to the achievements of the European Union; it analyzes the social actors that are positioned in favor of Croatia as a member of the European Union, as well as the positioning of those who are against the ingress of Croatia into the European Union. The theoretical positioning, intercrossed with practical data collected, makes us reflect on gains and losses of the Croats in their relationship with the European Union. There are negative trends of the European Union, exposed here, that are not explicit in its treaties, nor expressed by its institutions. It is important, in this study, achieving a critical positioning with respect to economic, political and social acts related to national sovereignty of peripheral countries of Eastern Europe. This work puts into discussion the strategies of the rich countries of Europe in order to persevere competitive in global scope, incorporating the East European market. For this reason, this study focuses on the \'Enlargement\' and agreements signed between the member countries of the European Union; changes in Croatian legislation; foreign influence in human development of Croatia, statistical data of Croatia and the European Union countries that reflect positive and negative factors related to sustainability of national sovereignty.

The object of this study is the Ceval subdivision, in the city of Pelotas at RS (Rio Grande do Sul), Brazil. Transnational Capitalism and the Middle East: Understanding the Transnational Elites of the Gulf Cooperation CouncilMirtaheri, Seyed Ahmad 06 May 2016 (has links)
In this dissertation, I argue that transnational elites within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have been integrated within a Transnational Capitalist Class (TCC) economically, militarily and politically through relationships that transcend the boundaries of the nation-state. These relationships exist within the context of a global capitalist structure of accumulation that is dependent on the maintenance of a repressive state apparatus in the GCC. There have been few attempts to analyze the relationships that Middle Eastern political and economic elites have developed with global elite networks. This work fills an important gap in the scholarly literature by linking the political and economic power of the GCC elites to transnational capitalist class actors in the U.S. and Western Europe. The TCC is comprised of actors who derive their wealth and power from ownership of production or financial activities on a global scale. The embeddedness of GCC elites within the TCC came with the de-centralization of capital accumulation occurring from the 1970s through the present that has linked regional and local capitalists to the ownership activities of transnational capitalist firms. The GCC is an important case study for analyzing the structure and consequences the current phase of globalization due to its relative vi importance in providing resources and financing for transnational globalization. Therefore this project contributes to our assessment of the role played by transnational elites in the GCC and the regional and global consequences of their power struggles based in part on a theoretical framework derived from Neo-Gramscianism.

The personality venture capitalist look for in founder: An artificial intelligence approach to personality analysisBrandt, Mathias, Stefansson, Stefan January 2018 (has links)
To date, the usual analysis of an entrepreneur personality is primarily a gut feeling of the venture capitalist and is hard to codify. This paper aims to explore in a qualitative way what it is about the characteristics and the personality of the entrepreneur that influences the investment made by the venture capitalists. These findings will then be used to discuss if an artificial intelligence application can be used to analyze the personality of entrepreneurs. The primary source of information for this paper is interviews with venture capitalists. The authors searched for similarities within the available literature on entrepreneurial personalities and found that the majority of the personality traits mentioned by the venture capitalist can be found in the literature. The research findings suggest that all venture capitalist value an entrepreneur that has passion for what she is doing and has the ability to get the job done. Additionally, most of the venture capitalist interviewed value an entrepreneur that is coachable, flexible, visionary, and is able to communicate that vision well. Finally, based on the results, the authors proposed a framework for how an artificial intelligence system can be structured to assess personalities of entrepreneurs.

Can Video Game's Invincible Protagonist Beat Capitalism? : A political genealogy through Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, and Disco ElysiumSpringfield, Leo January 2022 (has links)
The thesis is a meta-narrative discourse regarding the subversion in the representation of late capitalist realism. Through a post-humanist Marxist perspective, it connects three video game industry’s favorites with the ultimate question of capitalism: Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, and Disco Elysium. By looking through the unanimous retrospective paradigm, the thesis starts an exploratory journey analyzing the three games in terms of their narrative and mechanics lineages. Eventually, it wishes to reveal the possibility of genuine alternatives to our late capitalist reality from the late capitalist entertainment industry. By exposing the retrospective and inquisitive obsession of the three games, it reveals the underlying collective political trauma derived from the inability to defeat the late capitalist realism. While the analysis also leads to a potential solution that favors chance and randomness in order to disrupt the insatiable capitalist desire for the assimilation of originality.

Capitalist philanthropy and hegemonic partnershipsMorvaridi, Behrooz January 2012 (has links)
Over the past 10 years individual capitalists have become increasingly involved in philanthropy, setting up charitable foundations targeted at helping to reduce social problems such as poverty, disease and food security. This form of neoliberal capitalist philanthropy is both politically and ideologically committed to market-based social investment through partnerships, to make the market work or work better for capital. The new structures of philanthropy have received much praise in the media for imbuing capitalist business principles into the non-profit sector and for their potential for social transformation. While philanthropic activities may be considered worthy in themselves, this article examines the relationship between giving and business interest and the agency associated with neoliberal capitalist philanthropy. It questions partnerships between philanthropists and private corporations and their motivations for engaging in poverty-related philanthropy. The discussion focuses on capitalist philanthropic foundations' involvement in the process of agricultural commodification in sub-Saharan Africa through the New Green Revolution and genetically modified (gm) technologies.

Metropolização e o discurso da modernidade na reposição da periferia: o bairro do Cabuçu no município de Guarulhos / Metropolises and the discourse of modernity in the replacement of the periphery: the neighborhood of Cabuçu in GuarulhosAndré Luiz de Carvalho 03 March 2011 (has links)
This task has as na aim of study the relation which involves the suburb and its processo f replacement in São Paulo city, having as a fundamental support the accomplished study in Cabuçu district in Guarulhos city. The complexity, for the time being keeps diferent analysis in the way of its interpretation starting from this pretext what studies in this task is the presente situation of São Paulo metropolis suburb according to the promises of modernity in the relation to the suburb development. This modernity with the capital evolution takes private property institution to the center point, changing it into the most principal marks of the modern society. Among so many alternatives around the present urban complexity, the done choice here was to analyse the suburb as the reality of associate space that, by the point of view of this bigger reprodution must be constantly replaced in the metropolis land not excluding contradictions inherent into this process. However, this constant movement goes to its own urban way which is remade from a capital logic and impossibility in reaching modernity promises. The metropolis gets to the present moment as a territory that, among several developments, begings emphasizing the link between speculative capital and real state market. From this point, the intensification of speculative real state comes and it is articulated in the metropolis land. By as consequences, the suburb repositiion that gets worse according to the misery which becomes bigger in the dwellings and also becomes being na articulated movement in the same metropolis.

This reserch aims to present the history of resistance and struggle of the residents and of the Movement for Struggle for Housing (MLM) in the neighborhood of Vila Operária in Guarulhos, SP. From the systematization of the residents\' experiences, the aim was to construct a history of the neighborhood struggle through the actions of resistance to the reintegration of tenure in a space with land regulation problems disputed by the private initiative, squatters and the State. Previous issue date: 2011-02-25 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The research topic is the Professional Qualification Policy developed in Brazil from the 1990‘s. The theme relates tried it with the issue of regional integration of MERCOSUR, to identify whether the bloc development exercises influence on the politics of professional qualification. The research was developed in three stages: a) characterizing the professional qualification policy in Brazil; b) identification of issues relating to professional qualification in the areas of decision-making MERCOSUR; and c) identifying, within the resolution professional qualification policy in Brazil, themes related to regional integration of MERCOSUR. As methodology, were used the bibliographical review and the documentary research. The bibliographical review based the investigation of crucial issues related to role of the professional qualification as a strategy for reproduction of the capitalist mode of production, and the context of productive restructuring. The documentary research included the three phases of research from analysis of documents regarding the Brazilian policy (documents of the Ministry of Labor and Employment and Minutes of CODEFAT) and the MERCOSUR proposal before the issue of professional qualification (Statements of Ministers of Labor of MERCOSUR, Code of Recommendations Practices for Training and Recommendations of Economic and Social Consultative Forum). From the analysis performed, it was found that regional integration has is not essential issue in the case of professional qualification policy in Brazil. However, given the relative importance of the country in relation to the bloc, and proximity of the themes that permeate discussions in Brazil and MERCOSUR, can infer there is an influence the guidelines of the Brazilian policy on the agenda discussion of the bloc. Some common themes that might be related in two spaces, characterize the new demands of productive restructuring, as attention to vulnerable groups in the labor market and the qualification focused on entrepreneurship. It was also possible to analyze, form documents, some of the challenges posed to deepening regional integration, especially with regard to its social agenda, highlighting the question of asymmetries between the countries of the bloc and of civil society participation in the process of MERCOSUR integration.
