Smith, Julia, Ugljanin, Nersina January 2024 (has links)
Background: An increasing number of women desire the option of a planned home birth. As of today, Sweden lacks guidelines and infrastructure to support this. Previous research indicates that birthing at home may be equally safe compared to hospital birth in cases of normal pregnancy and expected normal births. The statutes of the European Court of Human Rights affirm that the choice of birthplace is a fundamental human right. Aim: To describe midwives’ attitudes toward planned home birth. Method: A qualitative interview study using an inductive approach with eleven midwives' interviewed. Results: The midwives emphasized several prerequisites for planned home births to be considered safe, including women making informed decisions and being multiparous with a history of previous normal deliveries. They believed that hospital environments could be adjusted to promote security and emulate home settings. While the midwives considered assisting women at home to be demanding, they were open to reconsidering this if planned home births were integrated into public healthcare. Conclusion: The midwives’ attitude towards planned home births was multifaceted and conflicted. They advocated for women’s autonomy and choice of birthplace, while simultaneously expressing concerns and seeing risks associated with planned home births due to inadequate resources and security compared to hospitals. This split perspective reflects the balance between supporting women’s autonomy while ensuring a safe delivery.

Conflicted custody: the unfolding of a professional problem-determined system

Fasser, Robyn Lesley 01 1900 (has links)
With the maturation of the child custody investigative process, the role of investigators and the process of these investigations have come under increasing scrutiny. The investigators are expected to be objective, neutral, and professional while following procedures that conform to model standards. However, this assumption of a lack of bias has been largely overlooked in the literature regarding the investigative process. It is assumed that investigators should self-monitor to ensure that their stance is objective and neutral. Furthermore, this position of neutrality and objectivity is assumed to be intuitive and natural. By using a case study, this thesis investigates and describes the process of a child custody investigation predicated on a constructivist epistemology. It highlights the impossibility of any investigator to be objective and neutral in any investigation automatically, regardless of the procedures and methods employed. The thesis highlights the participant observer status of investigators. An aim of the thesis is thus to sensitise investigators to this inevitable vulnerability with the expectation that such an awareness may allow investigators to establish processes to render investigations consciously more balanced, considered, and transparent. A further aim is to describe a child custody evaluation from an eco-systemic perspective by contextualising the investigation in the larger ecosystem to which it belongs. This description includes the investigation as part of an evolving problem-determined system. An awareness of this wider and evolving context may enable investigators to approximate a position of objectivity and neutrality more effectively. It may also act as an inoculation against the ‘contamination’ of the investigator by the investigative system. This thesis identifies what could be included in both areas (in addition to the expected protocols and procedures) by describing the investigator’s position as an expert learner, rather than just an ‘expert’. In line with current literature, it highlights the benefits of thinking consciously and in a considered manner. Conflict inhabitation: an emerging deleuzoguattarian inspired conflict studies reterritorialized assemblage

Opheim, David W. 08 April 2019 (has links)
Utilizing the lexicon of the French experimental thinkers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, research is engaged which indicates that their insights are compatible with and augmentative to the field of Conflict Studies. Specifically, four recognized conflict management approaches, which include the concepts of negotiation, the transformation of the conflict, narrative, and the transformation of the conflicted parties, are populated via an emerging Deleuze and Guattari inspired modus operandi. This process has resulted in an original new term, Conflict Inhabitation, which proposes that the conflicted parties recognize, to their mutual benefit, the centrality of difference to possibility and the acknowledgement of existence as dynamically becoming. This adventure is contextualized utilizing a Personal Narrative Autoethnographic Methodology which systematically engages the intensity of what it means to reside as a person in midst of the human induced Global Warming Climate Change experience during the Anthropocene Epoch. / Graduate

Conflicted Voter and Electoral Participation- The Case of the 2004-2016 Presidential Elections

Unknown Date (has links)
Many previous studies have tested the conflicted voter hypothesis that voters will be less likely to vote for their preferred candidate when the voters' issue positions are in conflict with their partisanship. Building on these previous works, this thesis tests the conflicted voter hypothesis on electoral participation. I contend that voters are less likely to vote when they are under pressure generated by conflicts between factors. Using Taiwan's Election and Democratization Study (TEDS) surveys for the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 presidential elections in Taiwan, the empirical analysis demonstrates that voters are less likely to vote when their partisanship is not consistent with their preferred candidate's partisanship. Moreover, the analysis also shows that voters tend to not vote when they identify with the opposition party but are satisfied with the incumbent government's performance, and when they identify with the incumbent party but are dissatisfied with the incumbent government's performance. Overall, this paper not only facilitates a better understanding of conflicted voters' behavior, but also provides implications for the campaign strategies of political parties.

“Det är så komplext varför man väljer bort en förälder” : En kvalitativ studie om familjerättssekreterares arbete med familjer där föräldrapåverkan misstänks förekomma / “It´s so complex why you reject a parent” : A qualitative study on family law secretaries work with families where parental influence is suspected to occur

Severinsson, Vilma, Dröschler Leo, Isabella January 2024 (has links)
It occurs that children distance themselves from one parent as a result of the other parent’s influence, which causes both short-term and long-term consequences for the child. However, there are divided opinions about whether the phenomenon exists or not. The aim of this qualitative study was to examine how family law secretaries work with conflicted families where parental influence is suspected to occur. The essay’s questions concerned the handling of these cases, identification of signs, the child’s inclusion and the application of the concept of parental alienation. To answer these, eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight family law secretaries from southern Sweden. The results showed that family law secretaries have difficulty distinguishing between parental influence and justified distancing. Professionals also face challenges in cases where parental influence is suspected, and these include reaching out to the parents and being unbiased. Different methods are used, for example making small agreements and giving homework to the parents, which is considered to facilitate the work. Family law secretaries are also aware of different types of signs in both children and parents, in order to detect this kind of distancing. Furthermore, the work is permeated by a children’s perspective, where children’s rights and parents’ obligations are emphasized. Due to the fact that there is an uncertainty and lack of knowledge regarding the phenomenon, it is of great importance that professionals understand the reasons that may underlie the child’s rejecting behavior. This is to be able to act in time and minimize the damage to the family.

Conflicted individuals : essays on the behavioral implications of multiple preferences / Les individus déchirés : essais sur les implications comportementales des préférences multiples

Ferreira, João Antonio da Silva Varandas 02 October 2017 (has links)
In this thesis I explore decision making models based on multiple preferences. In the first part of the thesis, I analyze some of the implications of adopting multiple preferences in economics and different ways in which they can be conceptualized and used within this field. In particular, I review some of the positive and normative consequences of preferences over preferences (Chapter 1), the behavioral (in)distinguishability of the single and multiple preferences models (Chapter 2), and introduce a new framework of choice with time in which models of changing preferences can be more easily characterized (Chapter 3). The second part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical and empirical analysis of economic meaningful behavior that can be represented as if it is the result of decision making with multiple preferences. In particular, I build a model to study the effects of multiple preferences to political behavior (Chapter 4), and run an experimental study to distinguish different motivations behind a potential intrinsic value of holding a decision right (Chapter 5).

L'enfant victime de sa famille / The child victim of his familly

Hilger, Geoffroy 11 December 2014 (has links)
The child protection represents a major cause for concern of our law, so that the minor doesn’t sustain damage. This protection is firstly performed by the family. So, it may seem surprising that the child is victim of his family, as far as parents must act in the interests of the child. The notion of child victim of his family doesn’t exist as such in our law. The victim often endures an injury caused by a third person and not by a family member. The study of situations where the child may suffer an infringement of his personality rights, due to act or omission of one of the family members, allowed conceptualization of the notion of child victim of family. It was thus possible to characterize the different realities encountered, according to their similarities or dissimilarities. This empirical analysis led to ascertain categories of child victims of their families and the corresponding legal system. It had especially as a consequence new protection instruments research, appropriate to specifics assumptions studied. This process allowed social or family realities encountered getting to legal validity. It was also an opportunity to bring out foundations of the concept of child victim of family, in so far as law has hallowed situations of child victims of their families. However, emergence of new social realities necessitated the renewal of the concept of child victim of family, in order to alleviate the limits of the foundations of the notion and to guarantee effective representation of this phenomenon in legal speech.
